DOHA: As speculations about reopening of now-shut outlets at the Villaggio shopping mall are spreading, employees working for outlets within the shopping facility has not been informed about a specific date.
It is also expected that only a few shops will reopen at the first phase and others would take at least few more weeks to complete procedures before they restart doing business, at the Villaggio mall, which was closed, following the fateful fire accident which took 19 lives.
“They might open on August 15, but we have not been yet officially informed,” a manager of a popular outlet at the Villaggio, told this newspaper. “Even though it’s not possible for all shops to re-open on the same day, some would take more time,” he said.
Among the eight entrances to the shopping facility with 220 outlets, gate number one, two and the VIP zone are expected to re-open on the first phase, which would allow the cinema, popular book store and departmental store to re-open for business.

on that point I agree that we should at least be patient for the safe and proper reconstruction of the mall, bcz safety is the priority for everyone then comes the shopping n entertainment stuff, but I guess with efficient management and honest supervision quick work progress is possible, that is no big deal at present age. And I did not notice people complaining about the slowness of work they are only hopeful and excited about it's reopening, so lets hope this time potential dangers are fixed properly for everyone. don't be so pessimistic,,, cheers :)
I do understand. I shopped at the mall regularly. But the gushing excitement over its re-opening and complaints about the slowness of the reopening are too much for me.
It's that sort of glee that mall owners, builders, etc. took advantage of in the first place to build an unsafe, poorly constructed mall that resulted in so many unnecessary deaths. That it is opening so soon makes me seriously wonder the extent to which the dangers have been fixed.
Bachus who said we want it to open without safety measures, of course safety will be the first priority of everyone, what we want is that they complete the work soon and open it for us. ppl have not forgotten the reason for its closure, it was a sad incident and everyone felt it at heart, but that does not mean that the mall should be closed forever, sad incidents happen all the time on roads as well, so should they close the roads also? the important thing is that they install proper safety measures to prevent such incidents to happen in future. here in doha we don't have much places to visit specially in hot summer, the only entertainment we are left with is to go to malls and spend time there, and between those malls villagio has got its own ambiance, that's why we are waiting for it's opening again. I hope u understand.
do we worship that mall? im new here, and you cant take that feeling from me of being excited for that. its just that its a talk about before and after, you know curiosity.and if you dont like villagio. your also free to unlike the mall. but pls dont discourage us? dont you want to promote your mall?
It's mall in which people were killed because others rushed the job to be open. I think we should all want them to get it right and safe this time. Get some perspective people.
It seems people are holding their breath for villagio to open,,,,come on guys its just a mall,,,don't make it seem like a sacred place.............by the way I am also anxiously waiting for villagio to open,,,lolz for it is the only unique/special mall in doha, all others have very plain look.
i dont think it is about being dependent on malls. its about the connivance for a lot of people. and what else is there to do in Doha for entertainment? there is no disney land or six flags. most of the time it is too hot to go to the beach not only that the beaches here aren't always the cleanest.
Villagio is like 2 minutes from my house. i can do my grocery shopping, clothes shopping and go to the cinema easily.
hyatt plaza is there but Giant is more expensive than carrefour and he shops there aren't that great.
Villagio is also a good place to meet up friends and co workers. quite frankly the other malls in qatar are not as good. Landmark is OK but that is far from my house.
Yes our lives would be unbearable if it did not open. We are not in a country with normal temperatures where we can enjoy nature and spend most of summer time outdoors !

Fling...r u fond of ur name..;)Can we meet on villagio...to have some coffee and i will show u around... I think it will open on the 15th...
when will villagio open?
Depends more on the color of your skin than your passport.
I don't know. Maybe they will ask you to choose one?
What if i show him dual passport. One an indian and other a british one :-P
I suggest someone tries it or the various skin-whitening products and then reports back to QL on what happened. Anyone want to volunteer?
I don't understand, shakti. What exactly are you? Anglo or Indian? Or a mixture? I don't think mixtures have the same rights as pure examples.
Is white. What if others apply talcum powder to look fair. Will they be let in :-P
Iam an anglo indian bachelor. Will they let me in.
He is a British bachelor!
britexpat is white, which means the racist mall operators will let him in (if it is open).
r u alone. I thought they do now allow bachelors :-(
Yes, go home coz its too hot outside.
I am here queuing at the front gate, so I can be first in and kiss the hallowed ground..
Should I just go home ?

oh my God its August 8,2012... and 2 days more...excited....
On 15th August.....
It is opening for good - or only temporarily? I heard rumours that it was going to be knocked down in order to extend the Aspire zone.

men would be men. women will always be women. and most of women loves vanity! please dont blame us.... specially when its on sale!
yr right brit maybe a kind of addiction to malls as they cannot live without them strange
Don't you find it sad that people are so fixated and dependent on Malls ?
It's better that it stays closed longer in order to make the necessary repairs and safety improvements.
I haven't been to the Villagio either but everyone's been telling me what a great place it is... so I guess I'll be seeing you all August 10th hehehe
I had heard about Villagio fire and seen the pictures as well but never visited the place as it was closed when I landed in Doha.
Hope I get to see it from inside.
Hopefully it will be open before I get back to Qatar.
