WARNING - Dog Owners

WARNING DOG OWNERS!!

Please do not leave your dogs outside under any circumstances during the summer. QAWS has had 2 confirmed deaths of family pets left outside for less then 2 hours in the last 4 days alone. Who knows how many more have died that we don't know about.

Leaving them with water and shade will not help them escape the heat as it is reaching up to 45+ in the shade. We all know how hot the water gets in the summer and it will not offer any relief to a dog that is over-heating.

Pass on this warning to other dog owners in Qatar to stop more dogs dying.

a friend of mine had just arrived here in Doha for work. And I knew she can't leave without a pet! So instead of sharing my beloved ChinChin, she might as well have her own!

I really am at my wit's end now. I did try QAWS but they were full and could not help..the same with Dogs in Doha.. I have advertised her in several different places and have had nothing but time wasters or people who I certainly wouldn't trust to take her.

We are not in a position to keep her due to lack of space and many other circumstances.. and worse than that, I am about to go home for 2 months in the summer and cannot leave her to be inside as my domestic helper is frightened of dogs!

She is friendly and good with kids, medium sized and very pretty. She is good natured but has lots of energy and she really really needs a loving home! If you can help her, please pm me and I will send my contact details.

I am desperate now!! Thanks

verisimilitude, I agree.

Now what to do about the non expat dog owners that mistreat and leave their dogs?

I do wish there was an agency such as the SPCA here. The poor dog behind us is out all the time. I guess we wont have to worry about him barking soon. Shame on some people.

Feel free to start your own campaign about labourers in the heat. This one is about animals. There are enough human charities in Qatar - why not speak to one of them? There isn't anyone to help the animals in Qatar except a couple of good-hearted expats so give us a break and go hijack somewhere else.

Labourers....

Please start your own topic for that subject...

This is about animals...

Veris... thank you for your opinion, but alot of us dog owners won't be without our beloved pets... no matter where we are...

You will be surprised how busy the pet relocators are bringing and sending peoples animals to and from Qatar - Yes we have the odd animals left behind when people leave, but not on a huge scale... and QAWS tries its best to assist people who might have no option but to leave there pets behind when they leave...

Moving animals is actually not such a big deal... the only country that has major problems with accepting animals is UK - they have a 6month Quarentine law - which, wouldn't be a problem if Qatar would just implement the Pet Passport Scheme - an application for it, which was submitted by QAWS years ago still needs to be approved... government beauracracy sucks!

Oh and dog fighting is predominantly done by the local community... which is why breeds like pitbull, rottweilers and similar breeds are banned in Qatar.

Now back to track of keeping this post as a warning to PET OWNERS!!!!

Having pets, especially dogs in this part of the world is a big hassle for the owners and even worse for the animals. the predominantly migrant population means there are many dogs that are left abandoned when people leave. During the hot part of the year which is almost half the year, the dog has to bear the brunt of it. There aren't enough places to take the dog out for a walk. There isn't a efficient state owned mechanism to deal with pets without owners. Its an environment very unsuitable for pets and dogs in particular. Owners should be allowed to bring dogs in only if they vouch to take them back when they leave and tabs need to kept on it.

Good advice. Don't leave your dog in filipino areas either. They may get eaten
