WARNING! NEW Radar on Wholesale Market Street

By tiger9p

Temporary Speeding Camera is now set up behind a tree on Wholesale Market Street before Qatar Scientific Club (Travel toward Salwa Rd. before the usual radar Location)

Saw it tonight. Some car passes me and I saw the flash. Then I slow down and look back. I saw a camera on a tri pod setup right behind a tree. Once you see the camera, it's just too late. So becareful out there :)

speed limits are way too low in this country.

Qatar is a sneaky, greedy, money grubbing dictatorship. The rules of the road only apply to expats. Qatari Nationals are exempt.

Fight the cameras. Fight the radars. Stay off the roads or you too will become the victim of Qatari drivers and their incessant obsession with being first or in front of you.

The slow lane is B$&sh*t. All drivers should do the limit. In USA you are not allowed to drive below certain speeds on certains highways. Slow drivers are an impediment to traffic. Qatari drivers are simply arrogant, speeding, intimidating thugs.

I have been the victim of 2 road rage issues by both male and female Qataris when you do not give way by moving over behind slower drivers than you.

Radars do not help the issue. The drivers simply log in the locations with GPS or memory. Then Qataris and others simply overspeed between cameras. This is not police work. Qatar needs to get with the program on REAL police work. Get out and confront the public. You cowards should stop hiding behind your cameras.

80 is the limit, it doesnt suggest that you use all of it. Just be responsible of using the fast and slow lane. Using proper lane is necessary particularly in dealing with round abouts. Most people doesn't know how to negotiate with round abouts.

Funny thing happened the other day, on road leading to wakrah, I was driving on speed limit and a truck 18 or 16 wheeler over took me from right lane.

Speed limits should be realistic, E ring road from Wholesale market to all the way to parachute should be 120 rather than 100. Road is wide enough and 100 is too low speed for that road.

Dear, if you want to drive at 60 on an 80 road, use common sense.. use the third lane. I'm sure you know the difference between shoulder and third lane :)

If you want to be in the middle lane, at least drive 70+. Hope you get my point.

@MagicDragon:

"Drivers who are well aware of bumps, humps, Indians, dogs, and cats".

How come Indians come in between humps, dogs and cats? Have you never seen any other nationality on foot on the road? I'm not an Indian, but I know every human deserves the same respect, at least this is what my parents/Religion has taught me. Instead of Indians you could write Pedestrians ... nohting personal my friend ... but just think about it.

corcaoich, well i respect your opinion idiot or not i still value SAFETY while i'm on the road, middle lane, fast lane, slow lane or shoulder! i'm not insisting on my rights, but i have the right don't I? im insisting on SAFETY and COMMON SENSE while driving. and when i call idiots using the shoulder of the road as an additional lane is because they deserve it!

Peace!

I was taught to drive in the UK. Consequently no problem in getting a Qatar licence as it was accepted that I had passed a stringent test, Not like the idiot somwerndmiddle who seems to think that the middle lane is the place to be as many drivers do in Qatar. Indeed i have seen websites who advise leaving the inside lane to traffic joining the road as is common in India, or letters to the press showing that driving schools here advise that u should take the shortest queue at roundabouts no matter where ure going!

A road is a conduit, if clear keep to the right! There is no fast or slow lane. A simple rule is only use the outside lanes to pass slower traffic. If everyone obeyed this simple rule there would be fewer accidents, lost tempers, damage etc. Introducing rules that lorries must keep to the inside lane ONLY has caused a lot of the traffic jams in Doha as low paid drivers approach roundabouts in the inside lane when turning to the right for fear of a fine and block the smooth flow of traffic.

Please learn from experience, do not block others passage thro ur own certainty that u have right on ur side! It is likely that someone will plough into ur car as he misjudges ur position and will send u into a collision with some very hard object which may leave u dead even if u were going only 70 kph in an 80 kph lane.

Protect ur family by driving defensibly, not by insisting on ur "rights"

The purpose of posting about this speeding radar is for everyone to becareful. It's not because I love to drive very fast or encourage people to drive fast and slow down before radar. Speed limit on this road is 100 KPH, but people tend to drive so fast and slam on the brake just before the usual speeding camera.

It's a nice to know information, which I think it would be useful for everyone. So, atleast you will know why the car infront of you suddently slow down before Scientific Club. I also hate those people who always tailgating you and flash high beam when you are already driving at the maxium speed limit or when approaching a round about or red light. Some people in this country can't look further than the car in front of them that's why there are so many accidents.

This morning I went out and did not see the camera anymore. I think that they only put it out at night.

Here is a definition of speed limit from the USA

Regardless of the posted speed limit, your speed should depend on:

1. The number and speed of other vehicles on the road.

2. Whether the road surface is smooth, rough, graveled, wet, dry, wide, or narrow.

3. Bicyclists or pedestrians walking on the road’s edge.

4. Whether it is raining, foggy, snowing, windy, or dusty.

So keep it safe out there.

yes, idiots that use the shoulder to overtake or use it as a third lane or fourth lane.

Road deaths in Qatar are six times higher than in the UK, per head of population, and many more residents in Qatar do not drive than in the UK. Drivers in Qatar are dangerous.

I stick to the speed limits, because in Qatar crashes are inevitable. I don't know anyone who hasn't been in some kind of minor accident. As speed increases, the impact energy increases by the square of the speed. Hitting an object at 120kph will cause over twice the damage of hitting it at 80kph. Driving slower saves lives.

No one wants to crash, but it happens. If you crash at 120 into a Land Cruiser full of kids and wipe out the lot of them, it really doesn't matter to me whether it was your fault or the other driver's. The result is identical.

"So those extra careful drivers who drive at 70 on an 80 zone and still think they deserve the middle lane .... they are not responsible drivers ....and I daily see many of them on my way ...."

really?!!! so i'm not responsible then if i drive between 60-70kph on an 80/kph road in the middle lane with my family as my passengers? you want me to use the shoulder as some idiots do? where the hell is your common sense? and the traffic officials who formulated that certain 80/kph speed limit are they also irresponsible in your book adeel?

anyone know about the one that was set up on the weekend literally just after Decoration roundabout.

Now, for me it is a silly place to have a camera just after aroundabout after people have slowed down and are only speeding up again, and there is already one on that road.

This is why i am asking what it was, cause it looked like an infrared system with about 3 tri-pods of different sizes standing next to each other, linked to an electric box with a Nissan Pathfinder was parked next to it.

It didn't make sense to be a speed trap... a car counter, maybe?

"if you don't like the heat... get out of the kitchen... but stop trying to fan the flames before you leave... it will burn you on the a** as you go through the doorway...." ME

It is there from last one week or so. In begining they were just putting it there in evening and late night. But I think they made some real good money (:D) and now in morning and afternoon time I have also seen the same.

The traffic department really love to play hide and seek. lolz..

I think every one knew this already and thats why I did not share it. Anyhow I am staying near to that place. Some times back on salwa road they use to park some 4x4 car and put radar cameras infront of the car. So if you are passing you will not notice untill you crossed the car and the flash went on. Tricky fellows.

There are lot many people doing over speeding and racing specially at mid night on salwa road. The most dangerous thing of the road is that its curved thats why so many accidents happen in which people lose there lifes. Some people drive in excess speed and lose control mostly where there is a bit more curve on the same road. Salwa road has the record in Doha... Guess what! Maximum numbers of cars/vehicles hitting house boundries/walls in Doha. Any way good tactic from traffic department to stop such incidents.

Peace.

80 is the limit, not the minimum speed. Drivers who are well aware of bumps, humps, Indians, dogs, and cats will not use the maximum allowed speed. Experienced drivers know that an absolutely 100% working brake system requires 37 m to bring a car to standstill out of 100 km/h. So, in a way, it is 'rocket science".

By adeel_9298• 9 Feb 2009 11:59
adeel_9298

There are some people who are driving @ 60 - 70 in the mid lane on roads where the limit is 80, My concern are those drivers. Most drivers wouldn't want to crawl behind them and would change lanes to overtake them being within the limit. And when you are changing lanes .... you are more vulnerable to accidents !!!

So those extra careful drivers who drive at 70 on an 80 zone and still think they deserve the middle lane .... they are not responsible drivers ....and I daily see many of them on my way ....

Please Learn to drive, and drive confidently and within limits .... and if you are "Extra Careful", please use the third lane.

Thanks

And why does some drivers flashes you even if you are already at the speed limit and it's less than 500 meters away from the round-about/signal?

Just my observation, everytime you change lane there's always the danger that you will get hit by oncoming vehicles.

It is always better to arrive safe but late than to never reach your destination at all.

adeel, that is why there is a slow lane and a fast lane, it's not rocket science. driving responsibly is thinking of your own safety, your passenger's safety and the safety of other motorists on the road. driving is not like when you're in rome do as the romans do and most of all when driving especially here in qatar do not think of the cameras on the road, think of SAFETY!

Adeel, Years ago the police in UK would turn a blind eye if everyone was doing 80MPH in a 70 zone if the traffic was moving smoothly, and even went on live TV to say as much.

Yesterday on Messaid road everyone was doing a steady 120-130 in the outside lane except one guy (and it's always a Tiida!) who decided 90 was sufficient.

Did you Google it first?

By SolidSnake9• 9 Feb 2009 07:19
SolidSnake9

Driving responsibly includes not being over the limit even with or without camera radars on the road. Slower drivers can always use the slow lane.

By adeel_9298• 9 Feb 2009 07:04
adeel_9298

Thanks a lot tiger for sharing this ....

@mjamille: Driving responsibly does not mean driving slow !!! Even if you are driving slow ... you can cause a serious accident !!! So to drive responsibly is to drive in a speed in which most of others are driving on that road and yet keep a good control ... This is my experience ... think about it !!!

("On Highways, some people drive very slow, and they are usually the ones who become cause of serious accidents !!!!!") I heard this on a channel, I don't remember the name of the program, but a traffic police officer was commenting on a serious accident on a highway which was caused because of a slow driver !!!

And if people don't know there is a camera on the road, they usually go to 90 on a road where the limit is 80, which is normal ... but if you know there is a camera, you will not cross 80 !!! So you should thank tiger9p for sharing this.

IMHO, people should always drive responsibly, not just because there are speeding cameras installed on roads...
