WARNING PHOTO'S of abused dog

By ljaj48

This dog was found late last night in West Bay area. He has a deep cut on his neck where a collar has been cutting into his skin. The lady who found him kindly brought him in to The Veterinary Surgery where he is staying while she makes a decision on his future. His injury is treatable and he would need to stay in the clinic for at least 3 weeks, however it will be expensive. Her only other option right now is to put this dog to sleep. If you think you can help in ANY way please contact the Veterinary Surgery on 44367187.

at QAWS - he is doing well and his neck has healed well. You can come down and meet him:-)

If you'd like to donate money towards his vet bill, please see further up the thread for details regarding how and who to contact to pay something.

this post is nearly amonth old....

Polo as the dog has been named is recovering beautifully in a foster home - he has had surgery and the vets say he should heal nicely.

Please read the entire post before answering.

Thanks.

with all respect to Qatar veterinary center, THEY SHOULD TREAT this dog ASAP. I think they have the funds ( when everything they sell is 3x what it cost elsewhere )

Also, How can anyone in this industry whether a vet surgeon or an office person ask for money while this poor thing is being tortured and in pain? People like those make me sick and are no different than people who did that to the dog.

I don't mind donating money but HELP him first for God's sake!

As I said TCOM I'm sure you're a very nice person - but I stand by what I said - the vets are doing all they can and more. As I also said, I choose to help in my way - as you do in yours I'm sure.

I don't expect the person next to me to do the same as I do. A donation was suggested, we have the choice to give or not.

I disagree with your suggestion that the vets are "lining their pockets" at the expense of others. I know that many vets all over the world help a lot of animals without pay because they love them. However, they perform a service - just like a hairdresser or a dentist or me in my chosen profession and Iknow I can't afford to work for free for very long.

Let's just agree to disagree agreeably.

By Chelsea• 7 Oct 2010 00:32
Chelsea

I agree with you.

But unfortunately that will never happen here so we're happy with what we do get, which is a discounted rate and the ability to run up a huge bill (our total vet bill is QR80,000+) which we pay off a bit at a time as and when we have money to spare.

One day, when we get charity status, QAWS will be able to afford our own vet, but til then, we appreciate every little bit of help we can get!

Looks like you have vested interest in helping to line the pockets of these vets.

I do not have to tell you what I do to help these poor creatures. You can blow your horns to glory but I don't.

I have voiced my opinion as a huge donation was asked for and I have every rights to voice it so do not fling that holier than thou attitude at me

Whatever your reason ... May God bless you I am out of this

By marycatherine• 6 Oct 2010 18:56

Well if WE have a heart WE will contribute to cover the cost (and the vets DO give a break on cost and DO wait for payment - that may never come BTW) I "collect" the feral cats in my neighbourhood and get them spayed and neutered at MY expense - what are YOU doing besides suggesting somebody else should be out of pocket?

I assume you're a good person who helps other people out of the kindness of your heart, making contributions to various charities etc. - unfortunately, there are many who never think of helping animals but leave it to others or simply don't think about it, they're only animals after all, they feel pain and fear and I CHOOSE to help. What you choose to do is your business, but it isn't your business to tell others what they should do.

By t_coffee_or_me• 6 Oct 2010 18:02
t_coffee_or_me

All I am saying is why cant they chip in with their expertise and time and the public can chip in with the medicine cost.

I am talking about all the vets in general here.

By Oryx• 6 Oct 2010 17:58
Oryx

I think (I maybe wrong!) that this vet is very accommodating to QAWS. A lot of vets wouldn't take the animal without the money. Its a commercial enterprise and they have salaries and rent and medicines to pay.

basically we can chip in and pay or it gets put to sleep.

By t_coffee_or_me• 6 Oct 2010 17:49
t_coffee_or_me

The are charging us because we are earning unlike the stray animals.

And we do not have families to care for!

My point is

Why only we have to help our 4 legged stray friends don't the vets have any heart?

By marycatherine• 6 Oct 2010 17:44
marycatherine

And a doctor is in the "business" to ease your pain, heal your sickness, etc. - why are they charging to help their fellow man?

We all have to earn a living - I am very grateful to my vet who not only looks after my pets and helps me to keep them healthy - it is well worth the price I pay for that.

Yes they love animals, but the animal doctors have families to provide for too

By t_coffee_or_me• 6 Oct 2010 17:35
t_coffee_or_me

But they are in the business as they love animals and who in their right mind make money this way. why only we have to shell out money at least they can give their time and expertise free and we the public can contribute with the medicine.

By Xena• 6 Oct 2010 17:30
Xena

they are not charitable organisations. There are not many places to choose from in Doha, so there isn't much competition - one of the reasons costs are high, but then again, high overheads - its not cheap to bring qualified vets from overseas - accomodation, tranpsort, villas to house the practice, medical equipment, medications... all this costs money...

Similiar to that of a doctors surgery - and you know what you pay for a human doc's consult, don't you?

By t_coffee_or_me• 6 Oct 2010 17:26
t_coffee_or_me

Why cant the vets here just charge for the medicine and give free treatment to stray and abused dogs and cats .

Cost is yet to be determined. Polo will need at least 3 days at the vet which can cost anything up to QR3000 - QR5000, depending on the treatments she has. The amount will fluctuate daily until she leaves the vet hospital.

The best is to call and findout what the bill is at that time - but it might change during the day as she is medicated, or bandages are changed these items will be added to the bill- its really difficult to say.

Mandi, as always thank you for your support.

The dog was sedated at the Veterinary Surgery and while cleaning the wound the vet found a wire embedded deep into the tissue. The vet assumes the wire was placed around the dog's neck when he was a small puppy and as it grew the wire cut further into his skin. The wire has been removed and the dog (now named Polo) is in safe hands with QAWS.

Please remember if you would like to make a donation towards Polo's medical expenses you can do so by contacting QAWS or visiting Qatar Veterinary Surgery and making a payment under their name.

Thanks for all the support from QL!

And a big thank you to the lady who was kind enough to take the dog in, the Veterinary Surgery, QAWS and QVC for everything they have done and continue to do to help polo!!

We would rather treat this dog at our own vet where we know he will get the best treatment possible. They will treat him at reduced cost and as soon as he no longer needs the intensive treatment, his wound care will be continued in a foster home.

Having communicated with the vet at the Cultural Village on a previous case, we are aware that they are not yet fully equipped as they have only just opened.

the pic are really painful to anyone those who have a heart. But,i think its not happend all of a sudden. Its happend through months or years(its my guess). May be any small ring over the neck from the small age caused this situation made it worse as per my guess. And there is no sharp cut in the body. Its even and round shaped...! Pray for the dog.

Even if the dog did something like peeing or pooping in the house or has bitten someone or for whatever, it is not an excuse to treat the dog like that. The dog doesn't deserve this kind of treatment.

That's alot of supplies, I'd have thought the Vet would offer their services for free in this case if they are a vet because they love animals and not just money, however, what will happen to it afterwards, has it got a good home to go to, if not the 5000Qrs could be wasted if they put it to sleep because they can't house it. Wouldn't mind Donating, but only if I know it's future is secure. Which vets is it at ?

This treatment is really disgusting! Why keep a dog when you cannot take care of them? That is why I fully support QAWS's statement that keeping pets should be given enough consideration and not just on a whim. I hope the one who did this roasts in hell!!! Cruelty to animals only shows how cruel a person can be to people and other living creatures.
