WARNING: SOUQ WAQIF DWELLERS

suckr
By suckr

Just arrived from Souq Waqif and I was very disappointed. Souq Waqif is great with everything but watch out with the people who are in the parking area helping with the parking and offering car wash. A Hindi man approached me and ask to clean my car for 15 riyals, so I said okay cause I'm gonna be early tomorrow and I don't want to fall in line in car wash saloons, I even gave him a tip. After roaming around and finished my meal, I went back to my car hoping that he cleaned it very well but when I checked, he didn't clean it at all. I was looking around if he is still in the vicinity, but he was no where to find or maybe he saw me and hide around the parked cars. My friend also had the same thing and also maybe those people are liable for loss of properties inside the parking area. The Souq Waqif management should ban this people inside the parking area.

Yes, actually feel sorry for these people who have to work so hard - but then some people don't deserve any sympathy.

Also, car wash thingy - for those who proudly wash their own cars, kudos for being hardworking. But remember, sometimes, the actual reason for people like suckr and me is not "lazy" but "too busy". GAL.

DaRuDe said Your mistake ...

You always pay after the job is done not before."

But they insist on payment before. So I insist on their receipt. The cheaters who look pitiful, lie and say "finish receipts", I say, "too bad. No need to wash. Thanks". Had one who magically "found" his receipt book when his hangdog look didn't work.

Haven't tried Souq but City Centre, a few times. No problems.

lloydN, It's not being lazy, It's a character of kindness and helping people for extra cash but he end up to be a culprit. He is an unknown man of course cause I didn't bother to ask his name and nationality or ask him to show me his ID. Unlike for you lloydN, you always ask every person that you interact to show first their ID before you mingle with them. Void it, I didn't ask QatarLiving website to post it in the main page. I'm just sharing my experience in souq waqif and to warn people.

LOL! nomad_08, let me correct myself - 'Make-do' car washers. They always make sure they take off the dust put leave minor scratches.

I once tried to get a polish and wax job on my car, and couldn't find a decent place. Tried Al Ayaal (hopeless) and then Zeigart (sp.?) in Salwa Road. They couldn't even remove the swirl marks. Finally a friend of mine, who does this as a hobby, had to come to the rescue. He clayed and sandpapered out the swirls, polished it twice and then sealed it with a paint sealer and wax. He even got rid of the orange peel effect. It took him two days, but the car got the showroom finish.

After driving in Doha for a long time, I have learned that there is no point in trying to maintain the looks of your car. The weather, the bad car washes, etc. Just get a new one every four years. LOL! This way you can avoid the lousy inspections too!

HaHa. Kevin87 = EPIC FAIL!!

I never let any strangers wash my car and especially unexperience one. A scratch in my car will always piss-me-off. You should take care of the paint job in your car as harmful "car shampoo" or detergent will make your car paint fading plus the fact that the water they use is "re-usable".

The main thing here is we should not tolerate or create bandits in our community. Criminals nowadays are getting more smarter that those who consider themselves as professionals.

It happened to me at City Center but the guy was waiting me when i came back. He apologozed and issued a bill and wrote down his mobile number telling me that anytime i can call him (when i am at city center parking area) to wash my car for free.

By qatarisun• 4 Jan 2010 14:45

i use sometimes their service at Villagio parking or beside Eli France caffe. I find it convenient when my car is hell dirty and my helper is busy with something else rather than taking my car to the Car Wash. But i never allow them to get inside of my car. I always pay upfront, and my car is always washed..

as Ivanovna said, shit happenes.. but hey thanks for warning us..

OFFTOPIC: Why do they let in so many cars into the parking when it is already full. One time I went there, and there was no parking slot to find. Adding to that, the roads between the parkings were full of cars bumper to bumper. It took me 30 mins to get out again. And of course I had to pay 4 riyals.

I am amazed at how stupid some people can be and how inconsiderate a few others can be. Maybe I'm just too old. Maybe stupid and mean is the new in thing.
