lets stick to the subject. I would love to be the misterius shoppers and make report to all the staff in Zara. These Lebanese boys think they are top of the world. One time on my relax and lazy I was just wearing my sandals, jeans and T-shirt. i asked some size for pants and they just totally ignore me. I get out of there and went to Mango and bought to many. Lucky enough the same guy was having cigaretes outside the mall and show me walk away with 3 bags of Mango stuffs. I told him is his lost today. Just exactly like the scene in Pretty Woman movie and he stare at me while I walk away to my car. He still recognize me and now everytime I inside Zara he smile to me and politely ask what he can do for me.

and fun, Red..The one time I remember most was a sales person at the Gap, who was new, and there was an issue about something minor, so she referred to the manager...who was a total witch, all of 22 years old, and made the mistake of judging me on what I was wearing at the time, jeans and a tee shirt...got all snotty with me, and as i turned to leave, my son turned back to look at the desk and said..mommy, why did that lady roll her eyes and make a face? I whipped around just in time to see her doing exactly that and laughing..then she saw me and smirked...Needless to say, I called the corporate office and THEN filed my report on her..She's the one I had to tell what she did wrong and the corporate office made her verbally apologize to me and she was demoted to clerk, following the meeting.
Most folks are about as happy as they make up their minds to be.
Funny you should post this..Iused to do this on a regular basis for stores like The Gap, Macy's and other large(and small) businesses. They have a list of criteria you have to look for and train you as to what is deemed good customer service. Trust me..it works and it works very well when the owners get your unhappy report. I've been called back in to face the employee and explain WHY they got the rating I gave them. Its sometimes quite funny to see the expression on their faces when they see me again, because they remember just how badly they acted.
I agree that low pay isn't good incentive BUT...if you are going to work and support yourself, then do a good job and make yourself proud of the work that you do. You never know just WHO you are serving when a customer approaches you..so why not smile and be helpful instead of being hateful and rude???
Most folks are about as happy as they make up their minds to be.
I know it does and the patrons should think about it.
In fact I went into a shop last night to buy something personal for myself and there were three Phillipinas there, they were very helpful - (the shop was empty) but the took the time to explain and check sizes for me so when I left I decided I will go back again as they understood their job. Thumbs up to them.
went to Carrefour to buy a son a bike. We just need to lower the seat a bit so son can reach the ground. Hubby have a hard time asking people to help us lowering the bike's seat. 7 different people come and see us ... After 20 mins, hubby decided to go to the hardware area, took one of the tool and did the bike's seat on his own. And all done in less than 3 mins.
Thats call high standard customer service ...
And talking about the pay of these staffs ... the restaurant in Ramada that i patron regularly for lunch, one of the filipina staffs approach me. She asked for part time cleaning job. I told her i already had my cleaner. Then we made a conversation ... she said she only been here for 8 mths and want to go home. Means she have to buy her own airfare if she go home before 2 yrs contract finish. I asked her working hours. She works 11 hrs a day ... 900 QR a month. Not allow to go out during weekdays, and during off day she have to be inside the company's villa by 9pm. So practically roughly she made 30 riyal a day, and she have to pay her own food. Even our cleaner made twice or 3 times than her daily wages for 6 or 7 hrs working with lunch.
1) when I greet the customer in a friendly manner.
2) when I increase the knowledge of the products the establishment has on offer.
3) when I help her choose the kind of product she is looking for.
4) when I offer the customer help and if she doesn't need it stay within a certain distance not follow her/him around like a lost dog.
5) when a customer buys goods - I explain how to wash or whatever good advice the customer may need when she/he takes her product home.
6) when I don't tell the customer you have no idea how a product functions - get someone who does.
7) when I don't turn my back on a customer when talking to him/her.
8) when I am cutting cold meats or cheese I don't leave the customer standing waiting - I go and serve the customer immediately.
9) when I have a complaining customer, I know how to handle the complaint and help her/him by either rufunding the money or advising her/him to go to Customer Service Dept.
Working with many different culltures is not easy - however, being on the shop floor as a salesperson is important to the customer whatever the patrons of the business may think.
It is a good thing that will happen. Service and knowledge most of the times is not updated. Not a problem of sales people. everyone needs training but who will give that in Qatar..
My thoughts exactly CB, since when has customer service in Qatar been of a high standard??? :S

Whoever gave that impression, the main theme of supermarkets is low pay for staff, the highest possible prices you can charge without causing a ruckus with the Ministry, and not first quality but second quality.
If you short change your staff where on earth will you get good service? Good service comes from responsible staff, staff being paid
QR 1.000 or 1.500 per month - what kind of responsibility do you want them to take.
"With the country in the midst of a major upswing in retailing, customer service often falls by the wayside. Mark Spicer, Grass Roots' General Manager said: “Whilst customer service in Qatar has previously been of a high standard, this is in danger of falling as staff struggle to cope with the pressure from rapid development, the economic boom and the growth in population".
To my mind if they would give me a pamphlet for a survey I would answer it easily - no need for mysterious shoppers.

Fast Food outlets were monitored by mystery shoppers in the late 80's/early 90's.
Not sure if it worked or not as the service in those days was generally good.

Staff
They get paid rubbish
They don't get decent training
They get treated like rubbish
A lot of the managers haven't a clue
Customer
Gets charged high prices.
Something is wrong here..
You can't pay 1000QR a month be spoken to like dirt and then be expected to give top grade service.
this applies to shops and hotels and restaurants here.
So many staff get treated like rubbish.... next time you go shopping make the extra effort to be kind.
I know it does and the patrons should think about it.

CanaryB... all this needs training and re-training on a regular basis.
& i know there is no option or a way to do that in Qatar.

1) when I greet the customer in a friendly manner.
2) when I increase the knowledge of the products the establishment has on offer.

Oops. forget customer service. 2 different guys in a same shop will have two different versions of a specific product/service.
some of them even do not know what is even asked by customers.
