#Weareqatar: a message of support from Xavi

Xavi Hernandez, one of the most successful football players in Spanish history, who plays as a central midfielder for Qatar’s club Al Sadd, has urged an end to the blockade against Qatar.

In a short video addressing the international community, he pointed out how the blockade was negatively affecting families, as well as “football as a sport”.

The message comes at a fortuitous time, as the recent Gulf rift has cast doubts among some about the future of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Qatar needs all the support it can get from the international community at this time, and messages like Xavi’s are an important way to show that although somewhat geographically isolated, the country is not standing alone.
