According to old webpages and even photos in Google Earth it was full of trees and even a cafeteria only one year ago...

right now it is a distressing view with only one tree left in the middle of the sand...

i have spent there a Valentine day on Feb 14 2006 with my ex-boyfriend. There were trees, and beach, and fish restaurant, and shisha place.. it was like a little paradise. Then the island has been demolished.

Now i am married another guy.

just take a boat load of labourers there every Friday. In no time the government will turn it back into a family park and kick out the "bachelors."

Excellent work Edifis, but remember and have your men 'terminated' after the relocation of the rum, dirty magazines, carrefour shopping vouchers and other treasure items - trust no-one and remember to treat the treasures like gym equipment and wipe down once you are done, especially the magazines - that stuff stains you know.

They left a couple of trees so that the female tree can lay eggs, and one day the eggs would hatch and there would be lots of treelings.

well, so that they could keep the name "PALM ISLAND" and not demolished island or bare island or piece of sand..

a few months before the asian games, tehy decided that the whole island was an eyesore and that the space would suit something more classy, given the large influx of tourists expected. So, there was talk of building a resort on the island, and developing it into one of the major attractions. The island was wiped clean within a week or so.

And then they looked around and realized that it was awfully small to be able to host a resort, plus there were construction issues blah blah. All i know is UDC was in charge of that project, and before anything could be decided, it was December 2006, and after the games, noone really saw any point to doing anything about it.

The treese were chopped to get wood to build the gondola boats that now proudly float around the vilaggio mall.

well novi, the rumour i heard is coz they cannot see the beautiful skyline acroos the west bay area from the corniche side coz of the palm island trees n stuff, so they decided to demoilish everything on it. plus they had sum electrical probs there which could turn dangerous. also the reason they were concerned abut security concerns since the Pearl was / is being built. god knows whts true...

it have been discussed many times before eu61. Rumour once said just before the asian games they will build a giant musical fountain. Another version said it would be a hotel ... but nearly 2 years later on still nothing happening. Shame really, we used to take our son weekly in the winter just for a quick dhow ride and a paddle in the beach.
