I was wrong. I had "a photo" (posted).

Must have thrown the others before we came to Turkey.

Stealth, I have pictures of the hailstones at the back of our villa. It was the night that the Caravan opened their new kitchen just after they moved to opposite the Ramada.

The roof in the Caravan's corridor leaked and waiters (all barefoot) were bringing in trayloads of hailstones saying "look, ice from the sky".

I may have mentioned this before on another thread. One arab guy had bought a new Jaguar and had left it out in the storm and it got badly dented. He tried to convince the Jaguar garage that the metal was faulty

I think as han19 said, some memories will not go at all. It brings back memories when DOha was a laidback place.

Do you remember the evening when there was a big hail storm which lasted for an hour or and everyone collected the hailstones in buckets? I think that was in 1989 or 90.

some moments just remain fresh in mind.

after so many years i still remember that evening and the red sky. it didnt make sense to me at all that day, i was just happy i wasnt late for school.thank you for reminding me.

but recently i had a scary experience, this was about 4years back, while returning from mesaieed at 3 in the afternoon.the way the weather dramaticaly changed just scared me, because we were on our way to doha and i was pregnant.it was as if the black clouds had come down to earth, and then it just started pouring with strong winds and lots of dust.one moment it was bright, the next it was cloudy and raining.all i could do was pray that the minivan didnt topple over, since it was tossing either side due to the wind.

That was the one. It was Ramadan.

There was one particular photograph of a mosque half in sunlight and half in the cloud.

That was something of an experience. Everything went pitch orange or something like that and visibility was almost nil.

i do remember a time during ramadan when everything had gone almost pitch dark at 4 in the afternoon or around that time. just as it had become dark it suddenly cleared up too.

this was almost15-20years back when i was in school. i remember waking up suddenly and thinking that i missed breaking the fast and am late for school.then realised that there was still time to break the fast.i remember the red skies that remained for sometime after that.

Sometime in the 80's we had what appeared to be massive rolling wave of sand on the horizon. It was hundreds of feet high, miles across and slowly enveloped Doha.

We were en-route for the Falcon Club when it hit. Everything went dark and the winds inside the cloud were extremely strong and uprooted roadside signs. We had to pull up on the side of the road.

After about 15 minutes it started to clear and we could drive again.

Apparently this phenomenon is common in the Sudan.

There were lots of photographs taken (such as half a mosque visible and the other half in the cloud) some of which must still exist in Doha.

I am sure that some of the ones with long experience of Qatar will remember it.

I believe God got tired of looking at my dirty car, and since I didn't wash it decided to wash it Himself.

You don't like the rain? I love it, even though it makes my hair puffy and doorway muddy. Very soon it will be hot as hell (though I have never been there), so enjoy while we got the rain. Too bad there is no facility to store the rain water, it will be good for the plants.
