How do we address hate crimes ?

Do we just jail the perpertrators or should we "re-educate" them by making them work with people they abused ?

Three masked men allegedly bound a woman and carved words into her skin. The incident has been classified as a hate crime because a derogatory term for lesbians was painted inside the home.

In addition, someone poured gasoline around the house and lit it, but the fire did little damage.

After the attack, the nakwed and bleeding woman made her way to the home of a neighbor.

"She had cuts on her arms and legs and looked like she had endured torture" the neighbour said.

"Hate crimes are despicable and appalling to me and to all residents," the mayor said in a statement.

See, insanity could easily commit a hate crime. Should we incarcerate him and reeducate him?

"..There are many who believe homosexuality is wrong, and they are entitled to those beliefs...."

There are few who believe homosexuality is correct and they are not entitled to this belief.

There should be courses for mastering control over one's thoughts and emotions and almost the whole human population should enroll. Just because you feel something doesn't mean you need to execute it. Retards.

Incarceration with rehabilitation. Hate crimes are despicable.

i'd prefer them to be locked behind bars..under a maximum tolerance than let 'em work with people they abused..if you're a woman who get raped/ molested, do you like your rapist to work around your house? be ur driver? i bet no..

They should be re-educated and re-rehabilitated to know that violence is not the answer. However, they have every right to believe what they believe.

What would you re-educate them to believe? That homosexuality is good, normal and acceptable?

If you re-educate them you'll have to re-educate every Bible/Torah/Quran thumper.

I am shocked and stunned. I would have thought you would go for the re-education and re-habilitation rather than jail term :O(

People have a right to believe what they want. Even if it's racist.

There are many who believe homosexuality is wrong, and they are entitled to those beliefs.

What is wrong is carrying out violent acts or trying to invoke violence on a person or group.

These men should get whatever the maximum sentence is for physical assault.

Well said..MM

Punishment is necessary for setting an example to others but at the same time proper education and awareness needs to be given to the perpetrators.

Nearly all hate crimes are motivated by paradigms formed at childhood due to improper social education.

Very well said Molten Metal... The world would atleast avoid incidents like the one i linked below if the parents be careful not to induce hate into the hearts and minds of their children.

a rare hate story:

That's disgusting!..I think your right maybe the perpetrators should be made to work with people they abuse, maybe then they will realise they are just people too..Ignorance,fear and lack of understanding make for dangerous people!

from our childhood it should be embeded in the mind through a 'channel of popular choice' that all humans are equal in all respects, only our deeds make us apart, then use compassion & mutual regard to bring them back into main stream who have gone astray due to ignorance.
