What a way to move a work of art

What a way to move a work of art

What a unsafe and unsecure way to transport a priceless work of art. Just wondering if this is the standard practice  around this places followed by the logistics companies out here. Doing it the cheap way and by untrained guys could cause damage worth a fortune

Ha ha ha ...wow..talk about respect and ethics. ..this was inevitable. ..I mean, just look at this picture. .does anyone see anything odd lolz..I feel bad for the guys who took all the time to build this thing. I hope they choose a good place or perhaps a better country who appropriate their work and not play with it as a freaking toy...

P.S. the ststaue is taller and wider than it seems in the photo...my head barely reached the players' knee!!!

@Knight Returns

Having visited the statue only 2 days prior for the first time "pure coincidence", I can give you some reasons as to why I would transport it that way as well.

1) the statue is made of painted metal. i.e. abrasions to it are very likely and very easy if covered or placed inside of a box with any form of lining except for expanding foam.

2) That much expanding foam is bad for the environment and very expensive.

3) the arms of the players altho seem level but they extend out at different levels to each...so u cant lay the statue on its sides, plus u risk bends and cracks to the arms of course.

4) zidane's back is slightly arched on one side meaning laying it back on Zidane's side will keep it rocking back and forth.

With that in mind I would normally lay it the same way they did too. the only think I might do differently is clear wrap it. To avoid sand blasting effect while driving...if any.

Secretly, i would AWARD the logistic company and send tat driver for a World Tour with a 10 days booking in some five star hotel (Inclusive 3 meals a day) ONLY IF they break this piece of art ! :)

an to imagine that this expensive piece of art is being transported by a company who don't really understand art work and a driver who has no clue to how priceless the cargo that he is carrying on his trailer really is. One look at the trailer and its worn out tyres says a lot about this transport company and the poorly paid drivers it employs to carry out such a delicate and critical logistical operation of the famous head butt episode

I wish...tat piece of art breaks into bits and pieces...:)

No discussing and No arguments then....

I forgot to add that while laying it side-ways, the bottom of the box has to be such that there are no point loadings and all slender overhung areas are well supported from breaking due to their own weights.

Super Cool, Your comment on 'engineering perspective..' is funny! Its just common sense that the best way to transport such an odd shape is to do it side-ways in a box with all empty space stuffed with thermocol and wooden spacers to restrict any relative movements.

I don't know with what this statue if made of...but looking at the position in which they are transporting, its plain stupidity. You don't have to be an engineer to figure this out!

From an engineering prospective that is probably the safest way to transport it considering the odd shape without damaging the piece or causing abrasions.

One more point...I love Zidane and I love football even more. but dude to call it a "PRICELESS PIECE OF ART" is really pushing it!!!

For the last two evenings I am not seeing this statue on the Corniche where it was placed...I wonder where are they taking it to.

I feel they haven't done a good job while packing it properly. Weight of Zidane is supported at two points so the overhung mass could crack unless everything is made of solid steel. If I was incharge, I would have provided enough wooden packing between the two players at all overhung locations. We never know what amount of dynamic loads it will experience over speed breaker bumpers.

I do agree with Joe, the art handlers are full of shit, that will leave many scratches in the art works if not totally destroying them, some of those art works might even be loaned by other museums or galleries so they they should be returned back in exellent condetion, and I really don't understand what position the guys are talking about! those are statues!! they are not people!!! I don't know what kind of pervert will get turned on over some statues ?!!

Wow now its getting exciting.. We are now into is that the right position. Statues standing and the ones lying down all give people strange ideas and helps them keep their minds under control in the traffic chaos

"what a way to move word art"

I thought your are talking about the weird position, bcs that man on the bottom looks like screaming from joy or enjoying it :O)

The funny thing Joe is that there will be a large number of people in Qatar who will look at that and go "looks fine to me... what's the problem?".

It's not as if this is a piece of art that cost tens of millions of riyals.

They forgot to cover it! I dont think its unsafe, its pretty well secured with support and cloth around the base and straps.
