What You Can't Say

Have you ever seen an old photo of yourself and been embarrassed at the way you looked? Did we actually dress like that? We did. And we had no idea how silly we looked. It's the nature of fashion to be invisible, in the same way the movement of the earth is invisible to all of us riding on it. What scares me is that there are moral fashions too. They're just as arbitrary, and just as invisible to most people. But they're much more dangerous. Fashion is mistaken for good design; moral fashion is mistaken for good. Dressing oddly gets you laughed at. Violating moral fashions can get you fired, ostracized, imprisoned, or even killed. If you could travel back in a time machine, one thing would be true no matter where you went: you'd have to watch what you said. Opinions we consider harmless could have gotten you in big trouble.

When i look at my old photos, i cant help laughing at myself :) Wow! cant believe that it is me, skinny, short hair, high waist pants, with t-shirt tucked in... hahaha.. fashion disaster :P

But most of the time, how i wish i could turn back time :(

On words- i'm always careful to the words that are coming out of my mouth., it is something that once you utter you cannot take back.

salam everyone... when we see our old photos, most of us would say, we hate it or we do not like to see it. but, come to think of it that these old photos reminds us of our past life, past actions, past appearances and it helps us to be motivated to become good persons.

let us not forget or hate our past or old life, because everything we have in the past play a part or role of who we will become in the future. the old life we have will be the one to guide us, as to how we will live our future for the betterment of ourselves and family and for the society as a whole.

May Allah guide each and everyone of us to a path which was destined for us.

Happy Monday morning everyone...

~smile always~

it's strange how weird we looked in those photos and how pretty/handsome our parents/uncles/aunts/grandparents looked in them

True, Rizks. But not in 3D. So, unfortunately I won't see the real dimensions of someone or someone's parts.

Fatimah, getting upset with your own photos means you are getting upset with yourself, because they are your history, part of you. You wouldn't be what you are today without this (your) history.

I remember the tank tops and bell bottoms - looked great :O)As far words and actions are concerned - yes we all make mistakes  - many a time unintentionaly. All we can do is learn from our mistakes and hope that we don't repeat it.

I totally agree with you but some time we do these mistakes intentional and some time and unintentional but in both way we got regrets.

I was just talking about a similar subject with DH last night...Yep I totally agree. Many times, we may have said and done things, with good intentions, which  we should not have and then regretted.Life has no erasers! I guess all we can do then is make repentance, apologize(if our action hurt another) and vow never to let it happen again. after all we are just humans and prone to making mistakes. So Inshallah we will learn from them and become better people as a result. On photos though...I hate seeing my pre niqab/hijab photos! Every now and then some family member will post it on FB or display them around and it really upsets me. But what to do ya'ni? May Allah forgive us all and make easy for us to do whats right with at least minimal mistakes..Aameen.
