What is your meaning about this theory?

I am actually reading the book The Jesus Papers by Michael Baigent and his theory about Jesus and his life is this:

Faith-Based History

It is this conundrum Baigent answers in a carefully reasoned argument, but it is an argument based on faith, and, as we shall see later, based in part on a hoax. It is ironic that we must accept so much on faith in order to cast out nearly 2,000 years of official Christian faith. Hard documentary evidence remains, "tantalizingly, just out of reach."
Here is the basic assertion. Jesus was a real man with siblings. On his father's side Jesus was descended from the line of David, King of Israel. On his mother's side he was descended from Aaron, the high priest. He was, therefore, a doubly legitimate messiah from the temporal and spiritual lines. His "death" on the cross was manufactured by his followers. He "died" when he was given a solution of drugs in the sponge. Taken down from the cross, he was quickly removed to a tomb owned by one of his supporters and conveniently located nearby, where he was revived. Even the Koran (IV, 155ff) speaks of a rigged crucifixion, according to Baigent. He married Mary Magdalene and lived happily thereafter in the South of France.
A group called the Zealots is the key. They wrote the Dead Sea Scrolls, and were Judean freedom fighters in Baigent's view. Jesus grew up among them, and at least two of his disciples were Zealots, Simon Zelotes and Judas Iscariot. It is this political aspect that is excluded from the New Testament, "a sanitized, censored, and often inverted view of the time." It was a view which steadily removed Jesus from his Jewish context and ultimately led theologians and artists to depict him as a blond, blue-eyed European

How do you think about it?

not sure I understand what you mean about 'not building places to worship'.

Shrines, like Lourdes, are just that, 'shrines' built NOT to worship a false God, but to ask a 'saint' for divine intervention to get your prayer through to God.

Like I said, Christians particularly Catholics have been accused of this nonsense about praying to 'false gods' before.

2nd Commandment: DO NOT MAKE IDOLS Cross -References to 2nd Commandment Books of Bible Topical index Top of Page

KJV - 4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: 5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; 6 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

NRSV - 4 You shall not make for yourself an idol, whether in the form of anything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. 5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I the LORD your God am a jealous God, punishing children for the iniquity of parents, to the third and the fourth generation of those who reject me, 6 but showing steadfast love to the thousandth generation of those who love me and keep my commandments.

TEV - 4 "Do not make for yourselves images of anything in heaven or on earth or in the water under the earth. Do not bow down to any idol or worship it, because I am the LORD your God and I tolerate no rivals. I bring punishment on those who hate me and on their descendants down to the third and fourth generation. But I show my love to thousands of generations of those who love me and obey my laws.

You are thinking of one of the 10 Commandments.

Thou shalt not worship false idols (or some such).

Catholics, in particular, have been accused of worshiping statues of their Saints etc, but the statues are only there to help focus your thoughts NOT as a God substitute.

You may pray to a particular saint or the Blessed Virgin Mary or whoever, to ask for Divine Intervention, but you aren't praying to that person as your God.

But it came not from Jesus. He never talked about it as far as it is known. It was decleared by the first council i think it was in Rome.

Just to control the masses and the popes dont wanted to loose the sovereing and ofcourse the money which came from it.

:-(

Has not a lot to do with the Spirit of Jesus.

He is the one who I feel and beleive in, you can know that He's God through many ways, simply praying from your heart to clarify His identity to you if he is real.

Or study the prophecies mentioned about him hundreds of years before his born, and his followers would never have been able to change all these jewish prophecies and to just make this undocumented story of not being died on the cross and take his body alive from the WELL secured roman grave. Anyway, after all these years, millions of ppl around the world now can prove to you He is alive and true as He is living with them in their daily lives, and we are not hallucinating.

I see your point. I in fact had a porcelain Mother of God given to me by and Irish Aunt who was a nun it didn't have my skin colour. lol

I've probably seen the same (all in the eye of the beholder) but what I was trying to say in my first post was that, on reading the topic for the first time, the comment on his complexion was the only one which caused an immediate reaction for ME!

"It is this political aspect that is excluded from the New Testament, "a sanitized, censored, and often inverted view of the time." It was a view which steadily removed Jesus from his Jewish context and ultimately led theologians and artists to depict him as a blond, blue-eyed European"

Don't you see ... for all I know the rest may or may not be factual.

The only thing I could comment on, and which I knew for a fact to be true, was that I never saw him as a blue-eyed blond European. So I disliked the 'sanitized, censored' part of the topic.

I have seen pictures of him in many countries during my travels and even the Virgin Mary in a different colours. so toe each their own.

who/which hung in a picture frame on my mum's bedroom wall didn't have blue eyes or red hair, so I guess I am going by what I first saw as a child and how the picture of Jesus-the-Elder remained in my mind's eye. Like I said, I didn't imagine him 'as a blue eyed ...... etc'

I have seen holy pictures with him having blue eys and reddish hair.

and only once, my first positive thought was that I never, ever thought of Jesus as "as a blond, blue-eyed European" in my wildest dreams!

Now, if that was the only unreal bit that stood out for me then I'd better read it again :D

Well of course there will be similarities as the Muslims believe in Jesus as a prophet, the only BIG difference is that Mohammed is declared as being the last prophet.

The intresting thing is that in some parts Quran and the Bible are verry similar and the difference between Islam and Christians is not that big as some "Hardliners" wants to makes us believe.

The movie was extremely diappointing after all the coming attractions had been shown. It was nothing like they had advertised it and I had heard to that the book is much better.

In my opinion anyway reading is much better as it leaves a great deal to the imagination

Very true, however over my many years I have read quite a lot and there are always are contradictions - so why should the story of Jesus not have a happy end and there was always something abour Maria Magdalena wasn't there - as they say no smoke without fire.

I am sure if jauntie reads this there will be another different opinion on this - by the way I was brought up catholic and by nuns and others - I refrain from name calling.

You are leaning far out of the window putting that on the site lol.

You may meet with a great deal of disagreement on the story, although everything is possible and I have read many books about the Christian society and the catholic church which are classified as a load of garbage.

As we well know not everything under the cloak of religon is holy.

Just an intresting point of view about the Jesus history. No needs to be attacked.
