What's the problem with people here??

Lafanga
By Lafanga

I sometimes wonder why is everyone so fat and over-weight in Qatar. Now don't take it personally and say I am not. You go out, you see so many people with fat arses and bulging tummies. What's wrong, is it the eating habits, lack of exercise, the water, air or any other peculiarity of Qatar??
I know there was an article in NY Times about this but that that was concentrated on locals, I see fat expats all over the place too.

Soniya specially for women. All of them are so fat and then have got an even bigger attitude. You talk to them nicely and they think you are hitting on them. Give me a break and they should go see themselves in the mirror if they can fit into one.

We QL guys have to organize cricket in carparks....

There is no option for the kids.....

Its no wonder that diabetes affects children in Qatar...

In the UK it's prevalent amoungst the poorest people, who are least educated about the importance of keeping a healthy weight and who buy cheap prepacked food rather than healthy fresh food. Here it's a mixture of the wealth and poor education. No need to do anything yourself and eating like a king all the time - except when you're eating fast food.

Saw a boy at the intercon pool yesterday, he must have been about 6 and was morbidly obese, like the fattest kid I have ever seen. It made me feel sad that his parents have gotten him off to such poor start and reduced his life expectancy dramatically.

When I first got to Doha... my circle of friends were mainly my work colleagues and my flatmate who were all Indian... I still have many Indian friends...

Before I came here, my entire vocabulary to do with Indian food was Curry (chicken or mutton) and Rice - but when I got here, it opened a whole new world of delectable Indian food, I didn't know existed...

I am also quite offay with all the little Indian cafeterias in Mansoura:-) Its a very dangerous place to live - it really does add on the pounds;-P

True Edifis... but its that damn Butter Naan thats does the damage...;-)

hijra means eunuch in Hindi!

And how best to cool of that area? There should be small kiosks supplying cool air through blower pipe to put under the abaya incase it becomes too hot!

By shapil• 3 Aug 2010 23:13

Out of womanitarian considerations, wearing anything under the black abaya should not be allowed during the summer months according to hijra calander as it is scientifically proven that black absorbs lot of heat...and it is so hot anyway.

I would blame the weather conditions here which makes it impossible for people to walk around even a short distance. No options other than staying indoor. Now this leads to lack of exercise and thus obesity.
