Can someone out there give me the story on this guy in the picture. Sorry it's blurry. I snapped it really quickly from my car as he was riding in front of City Center today.
saw him last year, around december. took his foto too and post in my friendster page. he was having the time of his life and it was fun just watching him drive that colorful bike..
His name is Ahmed Mohamed Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber his nickname is the Mask Man “ Al Moqana’a” his enjoyment is to bring happiness to people. Ahmed did not cut his mustache since 3 years. His hobby decoration of his cars and motorcycles. He received the title of the Mask Men in the first bicycle race in Qatar which was in 1965. He was jailed because of his attempts to distinguish his taxi in the seventies. Decoration on his cars and motorbikes done on his own expense to bring joy to the public. Ahmed did not marry until now, he tried 28 years back to get married to a woman from Bahrain because he loves Bahrain, the failure of marriage is the aspiration of the current touring around the Arab countries.
We like this fella. Everytime we see him at the corniche he brings with him warmth and puts a smile on our faces. He owns an old Jag too with lots of jazzy improvisations! He should be an ambassador of sorts here, to welcome new comers here in Qatar! :P
This guy started with his bike then had two jags decorated the same way all his vehicles were parked in the basement of Al Najda market till last year but removed later as they guys were asking him to pay for it.
this guy comes every single eid with his amazing car or motor cycle to make people feel how fun is eid and the guy says hi to almost every person in the street.
this guy yet in Doha. But whether he's paid or not, rich or poor, who among you would do do such thing to his country like this? At least for him, he's done something for his country (in his own funny way).hehehe!I admire the spirit of this guy:)
or so I have heard, that this man is very, very poor, Qatar or some people are paying this man to be patriot, grabbing attention in certian occasions, just sth extra funny in the areas of Qatar!!
thank you for touring around Doha and make people brighten their day because of your un-selfish 'smile'. Wether they paid you or not, it doesn't matter, at least you're not crazy as others think you are. I bet the joy that you give to people's faces cannot be measured with money.Right? And one more thing, I hope you're a Qatari, so that others will have hope that not all Qataris are selfish and rude. God bless you & drive safely.:)
It is what "Al Mugana'a" means. His name is "Ahmed Sultan Al-Jaber". A former policeman, who put a mask during a marathon race, decades ago, and earned this title ever since.
a few years ago there was a spread in local newsapers about this guy. At the time a serving policeman who had it in mind to travel all around the world on his bling bike publicising qatar. Obviously back in doha but no report on what happened in meantime. Hope he didn't go via saudi-yemen-somalia on his trip, Obviously not as he is back. Thank god for such people, keeps ur faith in humans alive
Just to go out and exhibit their patriotic decorations..nice and clean vehicles, smiling and friendly faces, a kind of advertising - charming Doha! Almost a brand this guys...Can be true?!
Well yup I have seen him many times and you know ppl there are other cars as well decorated like this and they are parked in the underground parking lot of Souq Najada...
Thanks for all the input! Just for the record, he loves having his picture made. I got a big thumbs up with a huge "THANK YOUUUUUU!" as we drove by. I love happy people :)
Haha, this guy is pretty famous around Doha. He always rides up and down the Corniche on his bike or in one of his cars which are decorated similarly. There was an article about him in the 'time out' part of the gulf times about a year ago, quite interesting.
And RED_POPE, at the speeds he drives, he doesnt need a helmet, haha!

about the only injury he's get at the speed he drives, would be a stubbed toe.
I love seeing this fella around town! If you wave or honk at him, he always gives you the biggest smile ever!!
Grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked, the good fortune to run into the ones I do,and the eyesight to tell the difference.
