When expensive restaurants miss the mark
Okay, I am going on this vent fest for everyone who loves food. Yes, all of us.
Qatar has a diverse community, reflective of that, we have every kind of cuisine on the market. We also have restaurants that target different price points.
Here's where it hurts: expensive restaurants with poor food. Nothing hurts more than 100QR or more for a dish and it is awful. Like seriously, how do you charge that and serve poor quality food? Oh, come on.
When the dish is 30QR and turns out badly, sure that sucks. But when it's super expensive and the food is still cold, lettuce is wilted, or plainly lacking any flavor (or even salt!), then it becomes extremely painful.
Here's the thing, if you are going to charge super high prices, you need to make sure the food is on point. No errors. No dry tough chicken, no overcooked vegetables, or raw lettuce that is old (Ewww!).
There is no doubt that Qatar has some super fabulous eateries that never miss the mark. Or better put, there are great restaurants that serve amazing dishes - consistently. Of course, no one is going to love an entire menu - we all have our preferences. But even if I order something I am not crazy about, I can still tell if it's well-prepared and of good quality - even if it wasn't my favorite thing.
If an establishment is going to charge an exorbitantly high price - the food better be perfect. Well, even if it's a moderately priced, I still expect a decent meal.
Value for money is beginning to matter more and more in Qatar nowadays. For many establishments to remain competitive, they need to follow this trend. High prices need to guarantee high quality, great preparation, and excellent service. Full stop.
Some places get it, others needs work. People are becoming more careful where they spend those hard earned riyals.
Increased competition in the market and careful consumers create a beautiful combination for the consumer market. Looking forward to how things are going to change and improve over the next few years.
I love the new direction Qatar is going in. We have waited a long time to finally see enough competition enter the market that push businesses/restaurants to step up their game.
