Can someone recommend me a good arabic course? Preferrably with personal lessons, not a group, or a group of max. 2-3.

EDIT: Want to learn Arabic? Check out Qatar Living's business pages for language training centers.

Miracles sometimes [email protected] ,Ms. Amal is truly an exceptional teacher. I have had trials with several female and rare male, from other programs.

She is so dedicated to helping my boys with learning arabic. She works so hard to make it enjoyable for them. They love class with her and look forward to it. My younger son is particularly hard to get motivated, interested in arabic. She has managed him so kindly and with a lot of extra effort beyond what I ever expected. He absolutely loves talking with her and spends 2 hrs class easily with her, mashallah. He even called her back for a third hour!

If there is a evaluation system or feedback form I am happy to endorse her as a great teacher.

Offers on Arabic,Quran classes JOIN NOW :)

What is Alif Arabic?

Alif Arabic offers live one on one Arabic & Quran classes with certified instructors specialized in teaching children starting at age 5 (up to any age) via free video calling at your most convenient schedule. Students start at their own level and choose their frequency and schedule of class. Even better, packages start at only $50 a month!

How much will the classes cost?

Alif Arabic offers different packages starting with $50 a month for one hour per week. 1.5 hours per week cost $69 and 2.5 hours per week cost $95

Can we have some offers for them?

Alif Arabic will offer them a special group discount; for every 3 students who register, they will take 10% off. For every 6 students who register, they will take 15% off and for every 10 or more students who register, they will take 20% off

Can a student have a special discount if s/he refer another student to Alif?

Yes! We have our ambassador program where you receive $8 off your bill for every student you refer to Alif

Is there a scholarships? How can they take a scholarship?

We offer several scholarships but right now, all the scholarship slots are filled. They can check our website every while to see if the scholarship application is open again

If 15 students join, can we teach two students for free?

We are offering a special discount for them. If 15 students join, each of them will enjoy 20% discount! This means that we are teaching 3 students for free not only 2

Can we give them live lessons? How much will it cost?

Ahmad this is up to you to decide if you want the teachers to give classes in the office and how much they would cost (We don't want to go for tutoring at homes, but if you think we should give classes at the office, it is up to you to decide)

Does the company offer Arabic language only or we can teach them Egyptian Arabic?

We can definitely teach Egyptian Arabic for those who are interested since our instructors are all native Egyptian speakers with instruction background

Why Alif and not any competitive company?

For so many reasons:

1- Our instructors are highly qualified and dedicated

2- The one on one approach is really useful as it develops communication between the student and the teacher

3- The classes can continue after you return to your home country because they are online so yous study doesn't need to stop when go back home

It is nice to know how Terramax and Richard123 are trying to coordinate things. I can contribute some feedback and remarks in such coordination . . .

1- I have sent an email with my proposal, which was very brief, and Richard123, Terramax, Lou and I guess two more have recieved it.

2- For the Mall Roundabout nightmare, sure! I agree that driving there is hectic but if you have noticed that the traffic has become less in recent weeks after the Airport Roundabout was opened(not fully yet) and Al Tadamon(Solidarity) Rounabout with the new traffic lights. The real dilemma was two months ago. I believe you or we are trying to find a place that has as light or smooth traffic as possible.

3- A blunt comment: It is to easy to say that a meeting can take place anywhere if this place accross from LuLu does not fit some people. Sometimes, if we try to find a spot, you will/may realize it is not as easy as you may think. On my own, I will see what I can do on that later today and Friday and Saturday since it is my day off. . so I will have some time to check on this. I should have a better idea by Saturday.

4- Hallooo ... hallooo ... hallooo ... The Asian Games is around the corner and if you are freeking out from the Mall Roundabout but what about other areas? The bottom lines ... there should not be worries about the issue of traffic. .. whatever spot is agreed upon, people should plan to leave from where they are like 20-30 minutes earlier and being in class little bit early has an advantage too for exchaning ideas or questions that some of you may have not time to discuss openly and with more details while in class . . . trust me. . . i know it!

5- In case more than one group of formed. . . no problem ... If two or three groups are formed, they do not have to be in the same area or with the same teacher . . . the students can make their minds on what maybe convenient for them . . . .ooooops . . lets not forget what is convenient for the teacher too. At the end, it is all mutual.

6- That is why I said earlier that I could be open to having to a group of 5 or 6. There more students are there in a group, the more diverse opinions can be shared. But the bigger the group, the less attention each student may have part of a group. Plus, some of you insisted and preferred a group not more than 4, but to balance all feedbacks is ok but having eight maybe something others do not feel comfortable with. Then, if two groups can be formed, they can be formed with different sizes. One group have 8 and the other 4 or 5. The student may need to choose which one he or she may feel more comfortable with.

7- For the possibility of having two or three groups, well, then this maybe difficult to be done/arranged/taught by the same tutor or teacher. Then, another teacher may get in the coordination process and teaching does not have to be in one group by a teacher, the same like another group by another teacher.

8- Two people contacted me. It seems they got to know about all of this from the forum, but each one of them requested a person-to-person intensive tutoring. They are still negotiating, but I said for a person-to-person tutoring can not go less than QR100 which I believe is very fair. When/if each of them is interested, they have my email and phone to proceed.

9- Interesting remark to share with you all since I have noticed this during my stay in America with people who want to pursue studying Arabic. People in universities or on academic grants were the ones who were kind of committed learning. Plus, teaching professionals or people who work during the day, is different from people who are students in universities. At the end of the day, professionals get tired in the evening and they look for a enjoyable class, easy going, with diverse material to be covered in one hour to keep them up. Covering three or four topics in one hour is much better than one topic for the whole hour.

10- Kindly make note that tutoring classes do not involve teaching only. One class may be to cover or teach new material and the following class may not have any new material but an atmosphere to talk, practice, exercise what was covered the session before. When you are a professional(not a full time student) the class is your full new territory to force yourself to expose yourself to the language without distractions, while at home or work, you have other things . . . plussssssssssss . . do not forget the pets if you happen to have a cat or dog at home too!! LOL !! just kidding!

11- Last but not least and accordingly . . . I have a suggestion . . for those interested, how about if we have a coffee getting together somewhere in Doha on the evening/early night of Friday or Saturday - so by then you have given this a thought - to discuss a plan and you have nothing to loose . . . if at least 4 people confirm to show up, I should show up too. My other suggestion beside the other feedback that one of you is waiting for from QF is . . . We can start a workshop of 5-6 sessions. Each session will be for an hour or a session of two hours where a 10-minute break is in between. The sooner we start this workshop, the earlier we can finish them prioer to the start of the Asian Games where the city is expected to go crazy! In those 5-6 sessions we will have a broad coverage to the main topics in the Arabic language like some cultural background, common vocabulary, pronouns, masculine and feminine usage in the language, pronounciations, alphabets, writing, connecting the letters, distinguishing the letters from each other, the accents which are tha notations that give each letter a different sound. This should give a good intro to a language you are curious to check out. If you like it, then you plan what you see convenient and if you were not satisfied, you will not regret what you have learned in those 5 or 6 sessions. Only the first session of those 5 to 6 sessions will be like an hour an half for introduction and orientation so time is well spent on whatever material to be covered.

Sorry Terramax . . . I did not mean to get you upset by writing a thousand posting . . . .lol! I check the forum regularly and upon the feedback, lets see whether we can confirm a time to meet . . . let me know . . . and sorry all for being 'little bit' long and self explanatory. At the end, it is there for all of us to be well-informed . . .

For Lou . . . thanx for the email and getting back with us.

For Camilla . .. thanx for updating us and you have not missed anything yet by me or Richard123 or Terramax . . .

yalla . . ciao !!

You are absolutely right about the Mall roundabout. It is a complete nightmare. In any event, I am not precious about location. It could be anywhere.

We should probably separate the group from your office from the group from Qatarliving, because of the number of people.

Also, my concern about D-Ring and the location of your office is the The Mall Roundabout. For those who will be coming from your side of D-Ring, we can always use "backyard routes" but for those who will need to cross the The Mall Roundabout at the proposed time, it will be a nightmare. Nobody will arrive at the right time.

Dear all interested Arabic students. I have conducted some research in addition to that provided by Tango.

There are six people in my office who wish to learn in addition to the 9 or so on Qatar living who have expressed an interest. So it makes sense to have several options and several potential teachers.

We met yesterday with a teacher called Ahmed who is a professional language teacher teaching Arabic at QP and other places. He is very structured and has proposed the following:

1. 7 stage course, each stage comprising 20 hours of study.

2. Minimum of 2 lessons per week (he really wants us to have 3).

3. He thinks that 8 people in 1 class is the ideal number because he believes that people get more out of it through interaction but is happy to do two classes of 4.

4. Cost is 50QR per peron per hour.

5. Location propsed is our office on the D Ring opposite LuLu Hypermarket.

6. Timings Friday AM 9.00 or 10.00 for 1 - 2 hours, Monday at 5pm wednesday at 7pm

We also have a proposal from Tango and I am speaking to Qatar Foundation today to see what they have to offer. Will get back to you.

As I saw by now, there is one person not in the country yet and the other one expressed interest but did not provide email or further remarks . . .

I'm still not in Doha but tomorrow i should know for shure when i'm coming. sometime next week, probably thursday.

For now i am very flexible on my schedule.

D ring sounds good, not to far from my place, if i'm not mistaking the place.

When we'll have 'final results' with number of people, possible teachers and fares we can make final plan.

But i see this is a group determined to find a way and study. that's excellent!

Surely, having more than 4 people per group is not a good idea if I will set up a group, unless under very very exceptional circumstances for just one more person to join but that extra person has to hurry up and give his or her final word since he or she will be part of a group. That is why I will try to have one more posting on the website and I hope it will appear on the webpage front page . . just below this posting on Aljazeera that has been there for days now.

I will send an email to all those who provided their emails. If everything is set, we can have our first meeting as early as this Thursday evening for orientation. Your all feedback is also appreciated.

Having another group is possible, but this will depend on the available people. I have done group tutoring before and I know how of a hassle it can be, but no worries!

For Camilla, you just joined the forum but you did not mention an email of yours if you want to be part of the coordination for setting a group. That was just a note!

From a previous experience . . . it is easy for many people to say that they would learn Arabic and stick themselves with a certain schedule. For whatever reason, it is understandable sometimes; either they got other commitments in life, work, family, or money, travel, more difficult than expected or maybe I did not meet some student's expectations or style or demands . . things happen friends! ...

From the feedbacks I got directly on my email or from the exchange of ideas on this forum . .. I thought of something that maybe fair and objective for all:

To go for 5-6 sessions first so you get a sense of what you are about to get into and also to check whether you will be comfortable with my style, personality and way of tutoring and your learning capabilities and how comfortable you may or may not be.

We will have a blunt style of communication but in a straight forward, honest and charismatic way. When I say 'Inshalla' I meant it sincerely and when I do not meant it sincerely, I prefer not to mis-use such a beautiful word in Arabic like many do, so I use something else. Also, when/if you have a comment or a remark or suggestion or 'constructive' criticism on something, please get it out of your heart. So, lets put it this way!

It is in the evening on Tuesday now. Expect an email within short!

Yalla . . . cheeeeeeeeeers !!

Aw, I'd love to join in.

Maybe there can be two groups then?

Yes. I will send invites after I meet these guys tomorrow.

Richard, I also would prefer a professional teacher, so your approach is perfect. The group however shouldn't be bigger than 4, otherwise it makes no sense. Where to have lessons we can discuss at the first group meeting. Can you send an invitation to everyone concerned?

I promised to attempt to coordinate this and have arranged the following:

1. I have two qualified Arabic teachers coming to my office tomorrow morning. They both teach Arabic at the Qatar Institute and have defined syllabus and teaching aids.

2. Both potential teachers are Egyptian and are also fluent in other languages.

2. Potentially we could have late afternoon lessons at my office on the D Ring (or anywhere else for that matter)

3. I will discuss fees with them tomorrow. They quote 100QR per hour but this is one on one so for groups of three should be less.

4. If Tango is interested in teaching us that's also fine by me as we seem to have 9 people who want to learn.

Please let me know what you all think?

Lou, are you already in Qatar? Tango - my email is [email protected]

For me the preferred time is afternoon as I work until 3-4pm

Well, i see everyone's multilingual here so we could have, beside the arabic lessons, an evening a week where we meet, go for a drink and only speak spanish or any other language that we feel like we're forgetting. my spanish is also fading...

Tango (or you have a name?), my email is [email protected] so please send me details for the fares, though i'm determined to study it so i don't think that'd be a problem.

Does anyone prefer morning or early afternoon maybe?

The price is not of a big concern. The idea is to organize a group (it's easier and more fun to to do it in a small group). I didn't e-mail, although I started this thread, exactly because we left it to Richard, who volunteered to get the things organized.

Actually I speak fluent Spanish (but I am not a native speaker), and could help you to maintain the language, unless... you learned it in Argentina :)

Hello All again . . .

I tried to post something but for some reason did not appear on the home page and just went directly to the 'Latest Postings' section where this story on Aljazeera has been on the front for more than 3 days now. Anway . . .

I received two emails as of now; one was asking only for one-to-one and asked for fares. The other asked for fares for both one-to-one sessions and group sessions.

Those who provided their emails on this site or emailed me first . . . I will send an email with information on the fares so you give things a thought first. Whats the point of talking about learning or getting a group or two separate groups and the price may be a major for some of you. As they say: "If not going all the way, why going?"

Nice to know about the diversity of the backgrounds . . . Let me add one more comment then . . . I have been two Russia(when it was the Soviet Union) which was very nice. For Croatia . . sure! I have been there too when it was part of Yogoslavia. . . Split and Dobrovnik were amazing cities and pretty nice beaches too. So, now we are talking! LOL ! just kidding!

Again and again, I can switch Arabic lessons for someone who speaks Spanish . . since it is a language I have learned but I am afraid I am starting to forgetting it since I came to free-zone-Spanish Doha less than a year ago . . . por favooooooooooooor yo quiero hablar y practicar Espanol !!

Yalla . . . take care you all . . . all the best . . .

I tried studing Arabic by myself but it's not working. I mean it's so different from any language i know sofar. However, i absolutely love it and i have a good feeling about learning it, hopefully fast!

Hm, as long as the gropu is fun i don't mind who's in it!

I always loved the one- work hard, fun hard :)

You are from Croatia (beautiful country that I know well) and Terramax is from Russia (also a country I know well). You both write better English than most of the native English speakers on this site and like Terramax you are multi lingual. You Eastern Europeans are far too talented.

I think the two of you will be speaking Arabic in no time.

I think we need to have two groups at least. A fast track group for you and the Russian impaler and a duffers group for the rest of us like me.

Hello you all who posted comments or who initiated the idea for finding a way to get tutored in Arabic.

I posted a topic about the subject a day ago but for some reason did not appear on the front page then it went somewhere on the website, which was kind of strange. So, I have decided to post another again and lets see the responses. Lets give this another 24 to 48 hours and see the responses for time management and schedule planning. My email was posted and I have made note of your email addresses and you all maybe contacted for arranging something. Lets see!

Yalla . . . take care you all.

Well...Richard, I think we belong to the same group. Knowing alphabet doesn't really help, if you don't understand what are you reading, and my "arabic" lexicon mostly consists of phrases like "Today no halas. Tomorrow halas." :)

Anyhow if you need my help in organising things, just let me know.

Salam, Hello, Bonjour, Hola & Oi !!

To all those who were looking for possible Arabic tutoring by a native speaker . . . I am a native speaker from Palestine. I am educated but I have tutored Arabic for non-Arabic native speakers for many years during my stay in the States, whether for Arab Americans who do not speak Arabic well or Americans, Mexicans, Brasilians, Europeans and some Asians. I set up my own notes and lessons into three different levels; Beginner, intermediate and advanced. I do so to organize things and meet certain expectations of what the student is looking for.

Note to the visitors of this website -- since this posting, i will check the website daily just in case. Otherwise, if you are interested, you can email me at

[email protected]

I have kept my tutoring notes that I used with students and I do use a small writing board or a big writing board with colors to make it easy on the student on how to read and how the letters are connected to gether. Plus, I make the tutoring process an enjoyable(non-boring) experience for both me and the student.

In the Beginner level, all students need to know about certian things. But in the intermediate, things can go in different directions depending on the person and what he or she wants and for how long. There is the formal Arabic and there is the dialect. The major dialects in the Arab world are: (1)North African(Morocco, Algeria and Morocco), (2)Laventine (Syria, Lebanon, Palestine and Jordan),(3)Iraq, (4)Gulf and (6)Egypt/Sudan. The Laventine and the Egyptian dialects are the ones under demand the most of students who seek to explore the world of the Arabic language. The first meeting or session is always free since it is important for the student to know what he or she is about to learn. This may include some grammar and background about the language, the regions and the different dialects.

Being native Arabic, fluent in English(Reading and writing) and backgrounds in Spanish and French helped me alot in dealing with the different students according to their backgrounds and ways of thinking when it comes to learning a new language. Sometime, I used refereces from German, Dutch and Portogese to explain something about Arabic to make things clearer. My fares are not cheap, but they are not expensive at all. But my fares are very fair both for the student and me.

I can tutor person to person but for those who want to set up a group to have better savings, it is better not to have more 4 people. For me, it does not matter, but I do not want you to loose the benefit of having a small group. At the end, I am getting paid but you will learn less in a larger group and it will be more headache for me, LOL!

This is not my main line of work, of course! But it has always been my work in my space or spare or leisure time as well.

BUT BUT BUT - IF YOU HAPPEN TO BE A NATIVE SPANISH SPEAKER(either from Spain or Latin America), then you have an advantage. I am willing to switch lessons for free if that is fine with the person. An hour in Arabic for an hour in return in Spanish because since I moved here, I am afraid I am starting to loose my background in Spanish, which I try not to. In order to keep it and improve it . . . then as they say in Spanish: Necessitas dos para tango en cada aspecto de la vida! y la lingua es un exemplo muy bueno! Gracias!

If you have msn chatting, you can instant message me and hopefully I will be online to write you back.

Excuse me for being long but it is nice to be informed in advance. So, who is interested, feel free to contact me for further information and/or clarifications.

Yalla . . . regards and best of luck for you all . . .

Hello

I recommend you to have lessons plus practice by speaking to Arabic person or group, which will increase your ability to hear and understand some of it, is general language

Since I am Arabic, I want to say that Arabic language has basic roles, but the general language accent will vary, depend on the original of the speaker

The libanon, egyption, Syrian, Jordanian, and gulfian each have

Accent and some unique words so I recommend you to communicate with each and much you can this to reduce the time

Any way I am available for any help

Regards

Amy, thank you for your answer. I however would prefer a native speaker. The reason being is that if I will start learning Arabic with you, I will inevitably acquire your accent, and this is something I would like to avoid. Sorry and thank you very much!

Hello,

I'm an american here on a fellowship to study Arabic at Qatar University. Unfortunately it is too late to enroll in classes there and class sizes are usually pretty big.

I, however, have been studying Arabic for a long time and am basically fluent, I'm here to perfect my language skills. If you are looking for a private tutor I am available everyday after 2pm. My Arabic is quite good and as a non-native speaker I'm very familiar with how non-natives learn the language. I have teaching experience.

if you are interested please email me.

[email protected]

Hope to hear from you

Amy
