Who has the best sig here?

I vote for IOU's sig. It also seems relevant to life in Doha for some of us. Here it is again as a reminder:

I find it wholesome to be alone the greater part of time. To be in company, even with the best, is soon wearisome and dissipating. I love to be alone. I never found the companion that was so companionable as solitude.

Not being the literary type I looked up some more of HD Thoreau's quotes. Here are a few I liked.

A man cannot be said to succeed in this life who does not satisfy one friend.

Dreams are the touchstones of our character.

I am sorry to think that you do not get a man's most effective criticism until you provoke him. Severe truth is expressed with some bitterness.

Most men lead lives of quiet desperation and go to the grave with the song still in them.

Anyway enough of that. Thanks IOU.

Anyone else have their favourite sigs they want to share?

That was very well put; I can't place my thoughts into words as well as you do. Many people forget just how large our country is, and how isolated the gun problems really are. I believe if it isn't a firearm the criminals will find other means to commit crime.

Also the statement about 2% of our population behind bars is misleading and lacking the history to back it. The majority of our prisons are full of minorities, and this can be traced back to slavery. They are bread from a century of never being given equal rights, education, or employment. Now that those things are available the, inner-city thugs and whatnot have no idea how to use them. It is a world within the U.S. that has people hooked on wellfare and crime. It's hard to convert all of these people, because they were children raised in that environment, and now their children are seeing the same. The only thing they've been exposed to is crime.

Vasquez...its not the LEGAL guns in America that are the problem..its the ILLEGAL ones. Those that choose to commit a crime will not buy a gun and do it..they buy one on the street that can't be traced or has been stolen, because we have to go thru a licensing permit each time we buy one. I have guns in my house, but they are for protection or hunting. Luckily I've never had to use them. My son shoots skeet, goes hunting but has never shot anyone nor held up a 7-11 convenience store...I've seen more crime in England and they don't carry guns! Not even the police.

Its not the guns that kill..its the people. I, for one, am not a republican, nor am I anti abortion, or right wing..etc...I'm like the majority of Americans...very middle of the road, but its the ones that are so off the wall that are the vocal ones, so you always hear their side...unfortunately...And for that I do apologize...Sometimes I wish we could muzzle them.(especially at election time!!!)

Thanks, I needed a good laugh! I don't see where you saw bad language in this post...

Tell me from a statement by the "Nuge" you feel I am anti-abortion, anti-gay, and a warmongering republican, because in my home I have a firearm. I choose to hunt deer, pig, turkey, squirril, rabbit, etc... and believe that because I'm free I want to protect the rights given to me to enjoy my hobbies. Now go home and slap yourself!

mr huge member or whatever your name is - don't you think there is a reason so many get killed or wounded by guns in the US and the liberal gun control laws? If you don't see the connection maybe you should not be allowed to vote? A country that has 2% of the population behind bars and another 1% guarding. For me that's sound like God's own country with a twist.

A country where time after time you see how crazy people go nuts in schools and colleges with in many cases legally purchased weapons.

The place where you have the rights to shoot and kill an intruder.

Mr bulging member or whatever your name is, you gay freaked anti abortion warmongering republican hypocritical far right Christian nut case that can't phase the truth - just because it's in the constitution written 231 years ago. That's like living your life according to the bible.

So you don't like changes - what are you doing here in this place? That's pretty far away from Missouri or Alabama or what ever shit hole you come from.

I'd rather be armed and not need to be, than to be unarmed and wish I did have protection.

"Who has the audacity to demand unarmed helplessness?

I'll tell you who. People who tramp on the Second Amendment, that's who. People who refuse to accept the self-evident truth that free people have the God-given [Constitutional] right to keep and bear arms, to defend themselves and their loved ones. People who are so desperate in their drive to control others, so mindless in their denial that they pretend access to gas causes arson, Ryder trucks and fertilizer cause terrorism, water causes drowning, forks and spoons cause obesity, dialing 911 will somehow save your life, and that their greedy clamoring to "feel good" is more important than admitting that armed citizens are much better equipped to stop evil than unarmed, helpless ones."
