Who Knows What These Things Are? And No I Don’t Know The Answer

I have often driven past these things on the opposite side of the road from the old Doha airport and wondered what they are. Does anyone know what they are called, what they are for, or when they were built?

These domes have both historical and cultural significance. There are myths of their designs inspired by Alien visitors...

These are simply hollow concrete domes domes that are primarily used for storage, but can also be used as accommodations. Designed in early 70's, construction was quick and cheap. It will have a rebar skeleton and concrete would be poured on top. A giant balloon would act as scaffolding, which would deflated and taken away once the concrete had cured. I am not too sure about its historical significance though. As a child, saw plenty of these being built back home for grain storage. Out of trend nowadays as shipping containers are much convenient storage option. Hope this helps.

These are primitive copies of the alien space ships that visited Qatar long ago.

In old days, local traders used to stock their goods in these warehouses but they are now no longer in operation, However they have historical value, which is unfortunately not catching the eyes of local heritage department, for preservation.
