Why do all the decent flats have Fillipino/Indian only ????

By SamyaUK

Im just wandering why so many ppl on here put on their adverts Fillipino or Indian only. Isnt that a bit Racist... Maybe im totally wrong and im sure theres a reasonable explanation but it kind of annoys me everytime i call up for a flat, they ask my nationality and i proudly say British and they turn around and say sorry Indian only... Are we not good enough?........

pm me and i will give you the details of a great agent - i have been thru them all, trust me. I found a great flat today and she is keen to let out the rest of the building, asked me if i knew anyone. This is really reputable, no commission nonsense or 2 years downpayment!!

i've had the same response as samya. when they hear my british accent they ask where i'm from. it's a bummer.

You are right swissgirl39, racism is not everywhere. It depends on a person's principles & beliefs which hires those bunch of people based on color or nationalities. But lets face it, racism happens most of the time.

I have seen job ads in gulf-Times and even on QatarLiving that say only indians/Srilankans/Filipinos can apply.

what do you say about that?

Even the companies are racists. If company's management is indian most (95%) of the people working there would be indian. If it is european most of the people working there would be european. If it an arab managemnt it would be saturated with arabs.

So this racism thing is all over Middl East. Sadly it is all over the world.

Go to Canada/States you will see only italians working in an italian management based company

You will see only chinese working in a chinese firm..

How can i forget this...you will see white people working in a company whose management is white.

No wonder the unemployment among blacks is sky high in States/Canada. Don't know about UK so can;t say.

Go to France you will see that most of the immigrants (Muslims) have low paid/odd jobs.

Coming back to Qatar white people get highly paid whereas the brown people (indians, banglades) and the yellow people (chinese, filipinos )are getting meagre salaries.

Similarly if you go to a shop in Qatar and a Qatari comes in The Qatari would get served first even though you came before him. so this is all racism?

If you want to get rid people of their sufferings and you cannot then you suffer. (Anonymous)

A thread was posted about 5 weeks ago asking the same question.

Check this node: http://www.qatarliving.com/node/12204 (long discussion but I guess you may find some reasons why...)

I'll try to help look one for you or you may check out the site's Classified Ads...

Good luck...

Well that is quite sad to know, but were you seeking an independent accommodation or a shared one? If you were looking for an independent and they turn you down like that then it could be:

1- These guys does not want to give you the house because they would be afraid that you would be asking them later for the maintenance and stuff like that where they don't want it to be a headache for them while the other people will live without even talking about it.

2- They are afraid like 'mufy' said that you would be having parties and drinks in the flat all the time, like people have nothing all the time but to drink and party everyday, every night.

3- The accommodation itself might be not good for you, some people would live anywhere because all they need is a house while the others would be having no problems in paying and would be kind of picking what is good for them.

If it is a shared one, it could be:

1- If they are Filipino or Indians they would be comfortable in sharing the accommodation with people from the same nationality. That would bring them together and would make life easy for them.

2- Speaking the same language and sharing the same problems and issues make them feel comfortable, if you get in between you will find it hard and would be like a stranger , even though they are friendly ... you will feel that way.

3- Being friends is something, being my flatmate is something different. If we can have fun together when we meet once or twice a week, then it won't be the same if we are living in the same place.

4- People from the same nationality can deal better with the problems that they might have in the accommodation.

5- Some are sharing the food and it is someone day every week too cook once, being from the same nationality would make no problems like I eat this, I don't eat that.

6- Different traditions and living habits are different, they don't want someone who is not drinking [for example] or who is drinking to be with them as well as they do or don't drink.

There are so many different reasons and in the end ... looks like everyone is sleeping on the side that makes him/her comfortable.

Filipinos want Filipinos ...

Indians want Indians ...

Lebanese want Lebanese ...

European want European ...

Best Regards

Well im looking for a small flat or a double bedroom with attached bathroom. Its so hard to find somthing here and when u do they say that. I know they may have that idea about us British, drinking and partying but if they just give me a chance and see me, they will realise that im a Muslim girl and im very modest but if they want to sterotype us then theres nothing i can do, just wait and be patient :)

is it sharing flats that u r talkin about..?

most indians prefer compatriots for sharing. if it's not sharing, they mioght b afraid of you people partying in the flat or drinking.. next time someone says like that, just ask them the reason for that. they shud have a valid reason..i mean they better give a valid one.

wat kind of flat are u looking for..?
