Why do politicians think we are stupid ?

Politicians in all countries think voters are stupid. They use semantics to try and bamboozle us.

Tony Blair was a prime example. Bring in spin doctors, change the words and pacify the masses.

A war becomes an "engagement". A policy becomes a "pilot study" etc etc

Now Obama has gone a step further..

The 'war on terror' is now 'overseas contingency operations'

A message sent recently to senior Pentagon staff explains that "this administration prefers to avoid using the term Long War or Global War On Terror (Gwot) ... please pass this on to your speechwriters". Instead, they have been asked to use a bureaucratic phrase that could hardly be further from the fiery rhetoric of the months immediately following the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The global war on terror is dead; long live "overseas contingency operations".

Well they keep getting voted in and even when they sacked for corruption (mandelson) etc they still end up back in government. Guess after a while they realise they can get away with anything and still stay in power.

We need either a one party system where you vote for the individual cabinet people or more referendums.

Brit: Can you quote the source for ur info in the last para?

As for spin doctoring, the world spins on it, no matter which field you take. Its upto the individual to make sense of things and call a spade a spade. Tough but thats life.

Also, to see it in a positive light, couldnt it be just that obama wants to repair the damage done to the image of US administration by his predecessor? Whats wrong in trying to sound less threatening? An immediate US withdrawal from the region will only result in ultimate chaos. So till then if tries a change on words to reassure all concerned whats wrong in it?

Ignorant...I would not say stupid. The average IQ of the world is astoundingly low as well:

Hey, what's up with the Aussies on this map?!?!

Anyway, the "smart" (I use the term loosely) people who run our governments will always assume the masses are ignorant dolts and continue to take advantage.

Its fact.... public is stupid.

Though everyone of us know that all politicians are thief's, still we vote them and elect as our leaders.
