Why do we argue so much?

charmed
By charmed

Im just wondering why we argue so much on QL? It seems everyone is trying to hard to out argue each other, to do out each other and to be right. I mean how many of us will say our points of view are incorrect or we are wrong? Why do people feel the need the fight like crazy and then start hurling insults at each other? Its like a show of knowledge trying to show how clever, how right we are? It drives me crazy – I wonder how many people just do google searches and paste info which they find on a subject which they know nothing about?

People will never change there minds, there set in there ways, I know we all like to “ discuss “ topics and im all for that, but why does it always disintergrate into a playground squabble with insults being hurled at each other ( I know I have done this too ).

We are all aware of the world in which we are living in, theres so much hatred, war, violence out there – why are we all fighting amongst each other ? Why cant we just deal with that’s someones opinion and that’s how they feel – I accept that and understand that – and move on?

Why cant we all unite and stop the petty squabble, stop trying to show how clever we are, who is right and who is wrong, lets just learn to live with each other and people indivudal opinions. I mean does it really make people happy to throw insults and out do each other – really?

I have no idea why do people like to waste their time and the others in useless and needless arguments. One thread and that is still going on: 'Accorind to SL, teaboys are ...whatever' Well if everyone would pick up anything that he/she does not like in others posts, then make a thread out of it .. we would be having endless as well as useless threads here serving the purpose of nothing.

Instead of counting and looking for what we think that it is the others mistakes [others opinions] and point it out in a thread like: 'here is the criminal, we brought him/her to justice .. what do the judges think of this?' ... instead of all of that post something creative and useful, help other people as much as you can and never put the idea:if I help them now, they should and must help me later. It is very simple and true that when you help people, they will help you later when you ask for help, but don't think of it that way so when you need someone later ... you would be upset because of this idea.

Some would be able to help you, some would not .. some would be in bigger trouble, some would not be here at all. So while you don't know which one would be able to help you in the future, don't help people and expect something in return.

These kind of posts would do nothing but separating people from each other, half of them would be standing behind someone while the others would be against that half. Let's quit on these kind of threads and look for the nice ones that bring people together in a friendly environment. Don't like seeing this community getting changed into a 'Racing Course' where everyone is testing his/her skills in pointing others mistakes and how many threads they can post about that per day.

Life is too short, don't waste in picking up enemies. Try to have friends as much as you can, no one likes to leave someday alone ...

If you got a house made of glass, never think of hitting people with stones.

Funny you should say that, I felt the same, was it around the time that all those sabotage forums like yuioiyuiyii etc etc were happening plus that horrid photo and then I couldn't get on QL because every page took an hour to come up and there were some bad fights going on, I felt the same last Sunday, really down and actually switched the bloody thing off in the end. Glad to see everyone is happy again, Jauntie, are you going to cook for us at the next Brit Club meet?

So now shall we have an argument over who has the best cauliflower cheese recipe? ;)

Mmmm... I love cauliflower cheese as well.

Here's my variation on the recipe:

Pre-cook some cauliflower *and* broccoli - I love broccoli, it's very good for you, and it makes the dish look more colourful and less 'beige'.

And here's the part where I cheat: Pour over a large carton of cheese sauce. You can usually find cheese sauce in the fridge along with fresh pasta and pasta sauces.

Grate some cheese and sprinkle on top.

Of course, you can make it with home made cheese sauce, but if you're short of time and looking for a quick and easy recipe, then cheating with cheese pasta sauce is quick and convenient.

When I was in S Africa with my flatmate, she and I would order food and they always came out with that bread and little containers of chopped garlic in oil and ground up chilies...Well, she never could eat the chilis so she and I would split the garlic and I'd eat that AND the chilies...One night we went out afterwards to see an ex boyfriend of hers play in a band and after his set, he comes over and talks to us. I said something and he goes Geez, did you have garlic? I kinda shut up quickly and said yep, sorry...He was like..NO , I LOVE garlic, I'm just jealous!! LOL Later on that evening, our car wouldn't start so he had to drive us back to the hotel with the windows down cause we were smelling him out with the garlic!Poor guy!

the addition of garlic came about due to the Landlady of a pub I used to frequent. She used to put out 'nibbles' for the Pub Cricket Team after a match and amongst other things she did a cream cheese dip.

It was just, like, Dairylea cheese spread mixed with a good vinegary salad cream (NOT mayonnaise, cos that would be too bland)and add to the garlic chopped fingernail thin.

She served it with raw cauliflower florets.

I must have almost KILLED many, many friends - Death By Garlic - when I served it at parties.

Thus I now add it to cauliflower when simmering it and leave it in when serving it.

re the cayenne pepper - I sometimes add english mustard to bring out the cheese flavour and sharpen the taste.

Jeez - I'm hungry now! I had to put the whole block of cheese in the sauce to prevent me eating it! lol

been having...fun fun!!! lol I will have to go to the store to have cauliflower...darn it...maybe tomorrow! Only veggie i have are green beans and peppers..neither of which are good with cheese!

Ahh girl you are something else!! Loved the lav comment! Hey I never thought about putting garlic in the water...We always just cut the cauli into branches and cook in water until just tender. White sauce is basically the same unless you are like me and like things very spicy..then we add in some cayenne pepper for a bit of kick! But that might be a Texas thing...

take one cauli - divide it into whatever size you fancy (biggish is best to prevent it overcooking)

I usually add several cloves of garlic crushed with salt to the water

simmer cauli in the water until just tender

meantime, make a white sauce (butter, flour and milk + seasoning

add strong cheddar cheese until it tastes cheesey enough for you

pour the sauce over the cauli and eat

I usually serve it with some grilled tomatoes on top and crusty bread on the side.

make sure the lavatory is free in the morning !

yes flipw that is what I am trying to tell to others, my closest friends include atheists and religious fundamentalists; Westerners and Middle Easterns, gays and straights, those with minds deep as oceans, and those who are shallower than an aquarium...any contradiction you can think of. At the end of the day I pick what I like from any but I retain my own personality, and I never felt that arguing with them is something bad as long as we are keeping our manners.....

I have been involved in various chatrooms and always after a while the arguing starts and can sometimes turn really nasty. I have sometimes feared a person could become suicidal over what is said.

I joined QL and loved the banter, argy bargys and all! I went on the dhow trip and met a few - it was great and I got home feeling really good about life.

Then, next day, there was some really horrid stuff on here (*I* found it horrid, anyway) and I felt suddenly very depressed - took me a day or two to bounce back up to be honest.

When my husband came home I started to tell him about what had happened and how I felt so down and you know what he said? He said, he had heard it all before from me, every time I joined a chatroom something would eventually upset me.

No sympathy THERE then lol - but it is an example of how it is in open forums - you can please some of the people some of the time, but you can't please all the people ALL of the time etc etc.

People can be very brave from behind a monitor.

My birth sign is Libra and the scales of justice. If they dip to one side I get depressed because it means there is no balance.

phew - that was a bit long winded! I better go and make the cheese sauce I began 30 minutes ago!

unlike other forums where people gather to discuss a common interest this is a site where people have been thrown together in one place

the common link is Qatar. With different age groups and nationalities, classes and colours then there are lots of different opinions.

add to that the loneliness, boredom and frustration some people experience while in Qatar and you can begin to understand the conflict as expression

Being focused and to the point is not an easy task. Everyone would want to share what he has and everyone would like to listen and learn from others. This is great but MOST of us either don't have anything good to share and OTHERS are not good in listening and keeping MUM if they have nothing to say.

The wanting to share the nothing we have take us to share insults and quarrels. I like dialogue but i hate it in QL. I might crash my PC.

Bless u charmed, ur such an angel. As for why we argue, it could be a number of reasons. A person might feel so passionately towards a certain topic that they get carried away. Another reason could be insecurity or narrow-mindedness. Also, it might just be that arguing is what keeps us alive and all worked up :-)
