why "Lolita" thread has been blocked?

it is nonsense. Lolita is a famous novel by Vladimir Nabokov, one of the greatest pieces of Art of the world literature. And by the way, it is not blocked, you can have a full access to the description of this great work at Wikipedia, as well as access to the full text of this genius book.
What the girl asked was about the expression "Lolita".
So Lolita is the heroine of this novel - a young girl (14-15 years) who has entered into an intimate relationship with a man 40 years, and became his mistress. Since then, term of Lolita might be used in different contexts. It might be a fashion style in clothes (childish yet sexy), This might be definition of the girl's behavior. This may apply to the type of girls preferable by some men in their 40-s.
Nothing wrong with that. I would recommend every one to read this great book in order to get familiar with the world known piece of classic literature.

[Mod Note - the thread has gone as the banned user formerly known as Jaredboy wrote it and has been nuked again!]

I also recommend "Shantaram" it was excellent in a "Million Little Pieces" sort of real but not real kind of way.

thanks genesis, will go and have a look! If not, it will have to be Amazon.

Oh, I have a recommendation too, "Shantaram" by Gregory David Roberts, it is apparently his first book, and what a book it is! I really find it amazing!

I doubt you'll find it in virgin with their recent trend of minimizing the books stock. Jarir might have it, as they do sell the Arabic translation of the book.

Sadly, the notoriety of the film changed people's expectations of the book.

Genesis, do you know if this book is available here?

A great book...read it many years ago. Films usually do not do justice to books.

Probably a thread about this book is not going to work well on QL.....

i've seen the Jeremy Irons movie some years back, but never read the book.

i recommend you read "reading lolita in tehran", a great memoir.

may be a great piece of art for certain cultural group, not for all.

The original film with Seller and Sue Lyons as Lolita was superb..

It is not so much about the scenes, but the innuendos. Lolita is usually used as a derogatory term for an underage girl who entices grown men ...

fathima, anything is possible here. People started discussing some lolita from a bollywood movie and then there was no sense left in the posts.

brit, movie with Linda Lovelace? I only know the movie with Dominique Swain and irresistable Jeremy Irons.. :) By the way, I didn't like Dominique Swain as Lolita in this movie. As per book, Lolita should be lighter, smaller and more innocent. Dominique Swain doesn't look like 14 years old innocent girl, but rather like experienced 24 years old hooker, which kills the idea of this storyline.

Reading is haram. That's why there's no books at Virgin and the schools here are so poor.
