Why Qatar ?

Travel.gate
By Travel.gate

Hi all

We 've been discussing so many things about Qatar. Some tend to conclude negative Qatar and many others see it as positive Qatar. The question is:

  • Why we came to Qatar?
  • Is it short/long term plan?
  • does it meet your pre-expectations?

it went out of control , now back to the topic please :P

We are all one big happy community again. LOL

DG I am so very glad you don't share the border with my country :P

Then again, I don't share the border with America and yet I believe I have the right to make fun of it as well. I think the whole world is entitled! :^)

By dohagirl• 28 Jul 2006 09:40
dohagirl

I know I didn't hurt your feelings g24la, I hurt scmasse's feelings. I did do a poll amongst my American friends and they all agree I have a right to make fun of them, especially about George W. They than proceeded to make fun of French Canadians. :D

By g24la• 27 Jul 2006 19:22
g24la

You didn't hurt my feelings, it is all good. No worries. :)

Make fun all you want. Who knows, maybe I might even give you some back someday. LOL

By dohagirl• 27 Jul 2006 19:03
dohagirl

G24la I am simply retaining my right as your neighbour to make fun of you, and everything about you (by you I mean America). Lord knows your tv shows have made plenty of fun of Canadians, when I said "ya but your American" I wasn't actually implying anything. It was just something too say.

By g24la• 27 Jul 2006 18:38
g24la

I did say I thought America was the best place on Earth. That is my opinion only. There are many immigrants from all over the globe that feel the same way, so that is their opinion. You are not a big fan of the current administration, so that is your opinion. I respect what everyone thinks, and I won't argue with you over it because no matter what I think, you are not going to change your mind. No matter what you think, I am not going to change my mind. We all just need to agree to disagree and drink a round of beers. After a few of those, we all be come good friends. :)

By dohagirl• 27 Jul 2006 15:43
dohagirl

"We get the "Ohhhh, you're American...snicker..." or people are pissed at me for what America is doing. How is that rational?"

It's actually perfectly rational. Your country voted in the current government, they are not dictators, they did not seize power, you and everyone else in the US, let them in. If the Canadian government were doing something awful, I would accept responsibilty for it, because I live in a democratic country and therefore had some say in what government was chosen. To say that I didn't would be a cop out. Like it or not you are the government you choose.

By dohagirl• 27 Jul 2006 15:31
dohagirl

Well no offence meant, but I guess that's the downside about being from the States, your government runs around making an ass of itself all around the world and your media show the worst possible sides of you, therefore the entire world only sees bad things about you, never good. But damned if I'm going to stop being sarcastic about the States, I'm from Canada, I have a right over and above anywhere else in the world to make jokes about the US, because we share borders (this is the only time I will ever admit this) and we are practically the same people.

Whenever I travel anywhere I get yelled at for being American as much as you do, so I know what your talking about, which is why I make jokes about the States, that and the reaction I get from real Americans.

By scmasse• 27 Jul 2006 15:26
scmasse

Maybe, DG, it's because we hear it...day in and day out, from everyone. We get the "Ohhhh, you're American...snicker..." or people are pissed at me for what America is doing. How is that rational? It gets quite depressing. There are reasons I don't live in the U.S. and haven't for the last 11 years but I still hate when people make fun or judge me for being from there. Most people are defensive of their birth place...most, not all.

By dohagirl• 27 Jul 2006 11:34
dohagirl

And at least you get you're kicks while dating. My problem is they never want to sleep with me again after the first time...:/ I hope that doesn't mean I'm bad in bed. :D

By butterfly• 27 Jul 2006 11:28

Cos I thought in England worked like that.

You get pissed, he gets pissed. Go to bed have sex and collaps (sp?), So every following date the same process repeats it self until one morning you wake up and you are married. And you can´t even remember how it happend.

By Qatarcat• 27 Jul 2006 11:26
Qatarcat

Yeah Buttfly, quite possible :p

By dohagirl• 27 Jul 2006 11:25

No, my friend who lives there says this is how all the girls get their men, she said she was told the same thing. Hence why she hasn't dated anyone since she got there. :)

I couldn't understand that part either. She wasn't an incredibly attractive girl, perhaps she thought it would help if he wasn't looking at her. I just can't imagine trying that hard to get sex.

By butterfly• 27 Jul 2006 11:20

But why does he have to look the other side? wouldn´t it be more exiting to look at him in the eyes and then kiss?

DG I see you cherish the idea... I've heard it from you so often! You just can't wait to find a guy who is actually seated, to jump on his lap. Too bad they mostly stand in the bar there, you know ...

Just at the end, I was visiting my friend who is finishing her Masters there, so only Masters and PHD students were left. I was actually watching the England V. Ecuador Match while the girl was telling me this. It's a really beautiful town. I loved the college.

By butterfly• 27 Jul 2006 11:13

With moderation, just like wine or fat. I love the golden tan you get here in the north of Spain. Mind you, both my grandparents suffered from skin cancer...so I should take care...maybe after I´m 30...

DG seems a good tecnique if you are ugly. But a gorgeous girl like you are doesn´t need to resort to that.

I was at uni in Durham. Were you there during term time?

By dohagirl• 27 Jul 2006 11:09
dohagirl

I was at a pub when I was in Durham and a girl there, with the best "two belt look" and fake orange tan, could not understand why I had so much clothes on (you know jeans and a t-shirt) and proceeded to tell me that the way to get a man was to jump on his lap and make him look the other way, than while he is distracted, grab him and kiss him on the lips. Than you were supposed to get him to take you home and continue that process for the next couple of weeks. Apprantely after two months of random sex he would be considered your boyfriend.

I think I'm going to try that one tonight at Rydges. :D

You did get the boring part right Super (and I won't deny there are many stupid Canadians) being home was as about exciting as watching paint dry. It tends to make like in Qatar look like a never ending party.

Why is it that Americans cannot take a joke about their own country? Why do you guys take yourselves so seriously. I honestly have nothing against Americans (unless you voted for Bush) I just love the way you get so riled up whenever someone makes a sarcastic comment about your country. People make jokes about Canadians all the time, especially where I am from in Canada, but I don't get upset.

By dohagirl• 27 Jul 2006 10:14
dohagirl

No really scmasse, you didn't all vote for Bush? I think I know that, I actually have quite a few American friends. Perhaps it was g24la's comment that he comes from "the best country on earth" that made me want to point out the obvious not best things about your country. Or perhaps I was making a joke!!!! (perish the thought). However, you can judge Canadians all you want, however you want, it doesn't offend me at all. :)

You must have gone through my previous post in which i appreciated your attitude because it makes things interesting, may that be on my expense.

About sandra, well it was a joke but i guess i need to work on my sense of humor.

About me living in a cardboard box, its true so no offense taken.

I wish i was a pilot, then i would have a ""Flashy car and loads of money""....

Well, you are right about me being desperate as well, I am a loser who gets kicks out of chatting with women.

All in all you are so right about me.

DG, I absolutely love how you judge the United States on it's leaders instead of judging everyone individually. Maybe I should start shooting potshots at Canada...you must all be the same right? I cannot stand being looked DOWN on because I am an American, I didn't do anything wrong...I was born there...Regardless of your belief we all did not vote for Bush, we all did not invade Iraq, and we all don't support it...and above all WE ARE NOT ALL FROM TEXAS!!!

Ok, stepping down from the soapbox...

You can not just judge ppl from what they post here, or then we will reach a conclusion that many ladies here are b....., ppl tease, flirt and chat, i take it in a good manner.

Don't worry about Beast. He's just trying to ingratiate himself with the ladies, he's so desperate. Read his past posts too. He's the one who asked Sandra "will you have dinner with me" or something like that. Poor thing. I mean Sandra.

I wonder why dohagirl thinks he's a pilot when he's so desperate to talk to chicks and lives in a cardboard box.

On the other side ppl here are really good, modest -at least ppl i work with. what is confusing that i know there is a life here, but when i go to a pub i find men and men and men,,,,,, and when i go to beach club i find women women women .....? is there a monster hunting ladies at night?

You never had trouble finding masculine clothes in Japan and Korea????? They dress gayer than the men here???

Some are already doing it, except for the skirts and dresses. All in the name of fashion.

I never had trouble shopping for clothes in Korea, Japan and Thailand to name a few places in Asia.

So basically it's online orders for me here.

Great shopping for women e46. Asia tends to be a bad shopping destination as a whole for men.

Of course people say negative and positive things about Qatar, people say negative and positive things about everywhere. There is no such thing as the perfect place to live, everywhere has its downsides and everywhere has its plus sides. It's just because the majority of us pointing out some of the negativites are expats, this is simply because we notice them more than the people who have been living here all their lives. I notice lots of negative things about Canada now when I go back that I never saw 3 years ago. In fact to fellow Canadians I don't have much good to say about living in Canada other than its pretty and sometimes the people can be friendly and I like Canadian winters better than Qatar summers. :/

What do I say about here: really nice people, I go on and on about how beautiful Qatari womens abayas are, great weather (most of the year), A higher standard of living, a welcoming culture and great shopping, lots of jobs and opportunities, beautiful city that just keeps growing and growing (my mother always says Arab children are the most beautiful in the world).

negatives: crazy drivers (not neccessarily bad, just reckless), HOT summers, a lack of business sophistication, a lot of loser men (among the expats, not the Qatari's), and the bars aren't great, but they are better than ones in Korea.

This place doesn't even compare to the festering hole that is Seoul, Korea. This place is heaven compared to there.

1) The scenery and weather.

2) I'm a home-in-my-hand kinda person.

3) Previous Gulf experience made the adaptation easy. However 10 years ago Doha lagged behind 1970s Kuwait, for example.
