A Saudi man divorced his wife after she said ‘hello’ to her ex-boyfriend when she met him by coincidence while strolling with her husband at a park in the Gulf kingdom.

The woman, her husband and his sister just entered the park in capital Riyadh for a weekend picnic when she saw her former boyfriend.

“She made an excuse to go the toilet and went to her former boyfriend to say hi and ask him how he was,” ‘Sada’ newspaper said.

“Her sister-in-law saw her and told the husband, who rushed to her, beat her up and divorced her.”

The last sentence is interesting

Wunae: Stories are stories and some human minds are very good at making them up. Incidents such that you have stated may have taken place but then as long as there are humans around they will continue to occur. That is why laws are made to take care of wild acts in any society. Such incidents as the one you have mentioned which are rare in this part of the world, cannot be used as a yardstick to tarnish the image of nations that carry a very clean record and maintain a low-level crime rate in their countries. Qatar and Saudi Arabia are two such countries. You will note I did not mention a zero-level in my statement above. Nor did I comment about any other country in the region as I have never been to any of them and my views may be way of the mark. Sorry to say, your views and opinions about this region are as biased as those of several other people who live here, enjoy each day of their life in peace and tranquility, take home a hefty paycheck each month, and then turn around and write out remarks which spew nothing but hatred and venom in their hearts about this region, its people and culture, customs and traditions, moral and religious values.

You've never heard the story of Alexandre Robert, who, at age 15, was raped by 2 Emirati men aged 18 and 35.

They took him to the desert, each of them sodomized him and then dumped him back in Dubai.

One of the Emirati rapists was HIV positive, however the police lied to the family and said that he was disease free.

When he and his family went to the police they first told his family not to proceed with charges.

They then threatened to charge the boy with being gay and having intercourse with men.

I wish people would realise that life in the GCC is every bit as REAL as the rest of the world. The people living here are just as sick as the people in any other country.

"If your wife runs around in Bikinis in your hometown" is pure insult. She doesn't. It shows your character. And, by the way, I have been living here for more than 25 years. Stories like the ones I mentioned happen all the time. According to the culture here they aren't reported, because it would throw shame on the victim's family. But I also understand that you know everything better than anyone else. Be happy.

WT: What you are saying are merely "stories" made up to support your earlier statements. I have been in this region long enough to know of the "realities on the ground." I have friends living in Muaither for several years now and none of them have ever mentioned what you are stating about your wife being molested "daily." I visit several supermarkets regularly and have never ever seen such things taking place here. If your wife runs around in Bikinis in your hometown, a lot would happen to her even there. The bottom line is that humans are humans. Laws are made and enforced to stop any place from turning into a jungle. The laws of Qatar and S Arabia and their enforcement, make these two countries among the safest places on earth to live in.

My Qatari friend's son was raped in daylight when he was 11 years old. When I lived in Muaither my wife was molested daily by the young Arabs of the neighborhood. Such things have not happened in my town.

Wild Turkey has not had a taste of Saudi life. Saudi Arabia, like most Middle East countries, is a place where ones does get to see a fist-fight taking place anywhere. Just like in Qatar, any girl or woman in any city in Saudi Arabia can walk down a dark street at midnight all alone with no fear at all whatsoever. How many countries in the world including mine, can boast of such safety and security? WT should look at the world in a broader perspective and not with a myopic eyesight. While referring to Surah An-Nisa, 4:34, Wild Turkey forgot that he also applied verse Leviticus 20:13, 20:27; John 8:3-11 and James 4:17? As for King Salman's sacking his senior aide immediately, it reflects the King's strength and broad-mindedness, his honesty and principles which are dominating qualities in true leadership, and should be looked at that way.
