wife refuses to let husband have transfusion.
NO DRACULA JOKES PLEASE.... Serious discussion only..
The wife of a man who is critically ill in hospital has refused to let doctors give him a life-saving blood transfusion because he is a Jehovah’s Witness.
John Edwards, 57, suffered severe injuries when a motorist suspected of drink-driving knocked him over and medics have warned he could only have days to live if he does not have the transfusion.
But his wife Sheila said he has signed a form banning any blood transfusions in the event of an accident or illness, because their religion forbids it.
It is believed she is rejecting repeated pleas from doctors hoping to change her mind.
A family source said: "Sheila is adamant that John must not have blood. She says giving him a transfusion would be like assaulting him, and he wouldn't want to live knowing he had disobeyed his God.
"She is in a terrible state, constantly in tears at his bedside, but won't give in to requests from anyone. Her sons are both with her but her position hasn’t budged."
Jehovah's Witnesses refuse to have blood transfusions because of a passage in Acts 15 of the bible, which states: "Keep abstaining from blood."
Those who accept blood transfusions are cast out of the faith.
I am doing my best to abstain!

It's what he wants. It's his right to choose what he does and does not want in terms of medical care.
It's like a DNR (do not resusitate)
Hard for the wife but she doesn't want to go against her husband's explicit and clear instructions.

Sticking to one's principles and beliefs is to be applauded..
Especially when the sons want her to relent..
One less nut in this world will not make any difference.
" im acutally one of jehovahs witnesses. first off, ask your friend, i can guarantee that hes ok with explaining his beliefs to you. the main reason for rejecting blood is because in the bible blood is viewed as sacred.(acts 15:28,29;leviticus 17:10) although we refuse blood, that does not mean we dont want the best treatment. it is a personal decision wether or not to accept fractions of blood(plasma etc.) however studies have shown that patients do better without blood, and with medical advancements such as the cell saver, and cauterization doing major blood loss surgery without blood transfusions is easier for doctors than most people realize. our beliefs are based entirely on the bible. like i said, your friend will be fine with you asking him any questions."

quite a few times in my 10 years working in a cancer centre in Canada..and it's especially heart wrenching when it's a child but it is their religious belief and we found no amount of coaxing, counselling or even begging made a difference so not only do they refuse blood but they refuse bone marrow transplantations as well as they can involve transfusions for the patients. I can recall two cases where we went to court but time ran out for a little boy around 6 and later on for a young teenage woman with a very treatable leukemia. I think it's true that you have to respect their wishes even though we disagree with them wholeheartedly. Still, very sad outcomes.
But is she doing the right thing ?
mmm I've had experience with this....its tough but he'll pop his clogs and meet his maker quicker than he thought...tough really....

u think that God let him die because his word in bible?
But you would be helping him DIE!
she is so faithfull..i'll still help my husband. My God wont be happy if i dont help him too..
Doctors can only respect her wishes at this point, and assume that she is doing all she can to carry out her husband's wishes at a time when he can't speak for himself.
it looks unbelievable in our eyes, but thats what they believe. If he dies for his believings, nobody can judge him or her for this. Its his life only and not up on us to decide.I dont find it good but...thanks God we have the freedom of Religions....
i hope he will survive...wish him all the best
