Would you consider doing the same ?

Young high fliers in India’s technology capital Bangalore are so proud to work for Western technology firms such as Microsoft and IBM that they are having their logos tattooed on their bodies.

Tattoo artists in the city have reported an increase in the numbers of men asking for "brand tattoos" to celebrate the high status that comes with a job at one of the world’s top technology companies.

The permanent "branding" of their bodies with their boss’s logo is not seen as a symbol of slavery or eternal submission but as a symbol of triumph to commemorate landing a highly coveted job.

And despite the fact that many move on to other jobs, they keep the tattoos, according to the city’s leading artists.
“Its called Brand tattooing. Mostly people from IT companies like IBM, Apple, Microsoft and Oracle have got their company logos tattooed on their bodies.

Pradeep Menon of the ‘Dark Arts’ tattoo studio said owners of small businesses have also been asking for their companies’ names to be etched forever on their skin. “Not only employees of IT companies but owners of small enterprises get their company logos tattooed on their bodies."

I guess it's no different than getting your military unit's sigil tattooed on your body. If your in IT working for Apple, or IBM or Microsoft is HUGE. It's like being a Navy Seal. So I totally understand why they would do it.

Yes Jews practice circumcision too as does certain Christian sects as well. I know cos my cousin and her partner, who are Christians believes circumcision to be a part of their faith and will be getting both their boys circumcised soon.

However the reason Jews, Christians, and Muslims practice circumcision as a religious ritual is due to it being commanded upon us by God originally via the Prophet Abraham, who all three faiths believe in, as did those tribes you mentioned.

Boxbe, This is not religion...its just a tradition that started with the Jews or much before that in the times of Abraham. If you want to know the origin of circumscision, you need to study Abraham. The difference between you and me is that you have only studied Islam as a religion and I have studied almost all religions as history.

By anonymous• 18 May 2013 13:10

iam sure u have weak knowledge of religion....why not study a bit more and then talk about jews or Prophet etc

Jews also ciscumscise their males and this tradition had passed down to arab bedouins as well. It was followed amongst the Hashim and other tribes as well which Prophet later had made mandatory in Islam.

nomerci ,, Away from religions, it is not the same, As World Health Organization (WHO) have shown that circumcision is very healthy, cleaner and prevent a lot of infections in the male reproductive system. :)

Yes in accordance to the Quran and Prophetic traditions whilst tattooing and certain other cosmetic surgeries and procedures are forbidden, circumcision is commanded upon Muslim males. And as Muslims, all we can actually say to this is God alone, in His infinite knowledge and wisdom, knows why He commanded us with such and such and forbid us from such and such. It's upon us to follow orders, which AlHamdulillah does have its worldly benefits as well.

KR and Nomecri

You both right,, doesn't mean that the others are unhealthy

But based on studies,,,it is healthier

And as nomecri said... each has his own way

By Knight Returns• 18 May 2013 12:07

The story of circumscision goes back to Abraham when, apparently, he made a covenant with 'God' about his descendents..so it was originally not done to make people healthier and cleaner. Its debatable if its a good practice or otherwise and the opinions are divided. Also, it doesnt mean that people who aren't circumscised are unhealthy.

By nomerci• 18 May 2013 12:05

where I come from circumcision is NOT common. But lo and behold...I have not heard about males having problems with their "reproductive" system.

anyway, each to their own I say. :)

We better not to talk about things we can explain.

this is what i actually wanted to say...ircumcision is very healthy, cleaner and prevent a lot of infections in the male reproductive system. :)

only difference is u said from WHO point of view and i wanted to say it from religious point of view which is not acceptable here...so i left it for those who can understand...All can not have the same view or thinking as the way u have

By Knight Returns• 18 May 2013 11:58

For me its stupid because I feel my personality and identity is unique to myself and my employer, for whome I am working for money eight hours a day, isn't a part of me in anyway.

But I do like watching hunks tattooed all over their back..:) and its definitely not mutilation. Its just another way of expressing oneself.

iam sure u will not understand..so i will leave it for others who understood my comment :)

Boxbe, I find the train of thought logical. Putting a picture on the body is said to be "mutilating", whereas cutting a piece off is not....bit odd IMHO.

"Tattooing is considered "mutilating" the body, changing God's creation"

I always find it strange that people think tattoos mutilate the body and change gods creation..

But the same people think chopping parts off i.e. circumcision isn't????

Hmmm...Interesting and strange and unhealthy comment

I don't see any problem in it!

They are proud of their of achievements and its their body and it doesn't hurt anyone so they can do what they wan't!

Personally I wouldn't do it as I think its stupid, but I also think the way some people dress is stupid! Doesn't mean they should dress like me though!

Talk about being braggarts and that too in such a distasteful way. Of course being a Muslimah I wouldn't get myself tattooed...period. But even in the past, I would consider such an act very self demeaning.

Haraam (Forbidden)

The following hadith, recorded by Bukhari: "It was narrated that Abu Juhayfah (may God be pleased with him) said: “The Prophet (peace and blessings of God be upon him) cursed the one who does tattoos, and the one who has a tattoo done.”

Scholars have outlined various possibilities for the prohibition as follows:

Tattooing is considered "mutilating" the body, changing God's creation

It inflicts unnecessary pain, and introduces infection

It covers the natural body, and is a form of "deception"

Non-believers often adorn themselves this way, so it is "imitating the kuffar"
