Working women responsible for rise in autism

Another "intelligent" article from the Daily Mail:

http://www.dailymail...t-30-years.html

"Why the rise in autism just about everywhere? One answer could be the changing role of women in general seen in the last 100 years.
Equal opportunities: Now it is commonplace for women to become doctors or surgeons and marry

Equal opportunities: Now it is commonplace for women to become doctors or surgeons and marry

Until relatively recently in our history, being exceptionally bright was not much use to you if you were female. In Victorian Britain, for example, the opportunities for a woman to earn her living through brainpower alone were extremely limited.

According to the 1901 Census, there were fewer than a hundred registered female doctors in the whole of the United Kingdom.

Going to university was difficult and expensive – most did not even allow girls to study. There were certainly few opportunities for careers in engineering or the sciences.

You could become a teacher or a governess, or maybe, of you were exceptionally talented, earn your living writing or in the arts. Most of the professions were closed, as was the world of business.

Brainy women were not even seen as particularly desirable partners. Clever or rich men chose brides on the grounds of looks, ‘breeding’ or both.

Having an IQ in the 140s probably counted against you if anything. The traditional image of a ‘dumb blonde’ hanging off the arm of the successful politician or businessman was a horrible cliché but it had an element of truth."

Ummmm....Just because a woman didn't work in the past, or pursue activities that would reveal her intelligence, didn't make her any less of a "systemtiser" and even then, like was just as likely to be attracted to like (hence relationships like Lord Byron and Mary Shelly), what say you? Just another attempt by the Daily Mail to undermine working women?

Read carefully:"One answer could be the changing role of women in general seen in the last 100 years.

No where do the 'scientists' say that this is the reason.

"But I agree that if men don't take responsibility of being the bread winner & make women earn for the family, of course upbringing of the kids will not be perfect."

Why?

There is another very good & true reason. Parents are overanxious about their children's personality especially if it is different from their own. They rush to the psychologist who sees abnormality in every thing under the sun because that's what keeps him in business. Most of these diagnosis are bullshit & 80-90 % children labelled with ADHD & autism are simply normal children probably a normal variation.

But I agree that if men don't take responsibility of being the bread winner & make women earn for the family, of course upbringing of the kids will not be perfect.

I sincerely doubt any "scientific" hypothesis put forward by Borat's cousin. But also, if you've read the whole article, I would say that the number of people, especially women, in engineering and other systematic jobs are nowhere near enough to count for such a high change in autism rates. Silcone Valley is not the whole of the US!

I fail to see the link - didn't scientists used to blame Autism and aspergers syndrome on the MMR jab and now that has been found to be bogus they are looking for something else?

clutching at straws I would say
