I've travelled to about 90% of these countries and I'd have to say the Caribbean is #1 for rudeness and the second, well, I'd better not say here!

kiwi...why Not.. The British sent a few thousands of those Nutters to populate the Colonies of Australia and NZ a few centuries back!..:)

UkEng - you know that you have just opened yourself up to an onslaught of "So, you have no nuts?" jokes, right?

By snessy• 9 Apr 2012 11:22

You need to take note of who you should speak to - if it's a bloke, I'll go over, if it's a woman, I'll send hubby...always works. Oh, and this works all over the world normally (also Qatar).

By GodFather.• 9 Apr 2012 11:13

Yes agree Snessy I don't think they are rude. The Effecking refuse to speak English!

Really beggars the belief that the antipodeans take they customs a bit too serious! Especially when it comes to bringing in foods.

I had a packet of sealed nuts..For God Sake NUTS, that were sealed which I bought from Dubai Airport. I had to dispose them off before I got the Customs!

Kiwi - yeah, thought I was going to be lynched to be honest (joke is, it was probably a Braeburn from NZ in the first place!). I had forgotten it was in my bag as I had been travelling for 30+ hours and got off my 5th consecutive flight and was absolutely knackerd. Was called a liar by customs guy and he went through my bag - including pulling out all my underwear, in front of other passgengers and his hands were so filthy, I thought his day job was on a farm. I was then made to leave everything behind (including my passport) frog marched into arrivals and made to take money out of the bank on the spot to hand over to the 'official' I felt this would not have been out of place in Nazi Germany to be honest.

MM "Actually I've always found American immigration to be quite friendly". I wonder if a Qatari wearing a thobe or abaya would have the same experience?

By anonymous• 9 Apr 2012 10:47
anonymous

jjj: you brought an apple into New Zealand and customs was rude to you? Hell, I'm surprised that they didn't hang you on the spot! ; )

The rudest place obviously is a black hole. It doesn't even talk to you, it just sucks you in.

No skin off my teeth JJJ, you can say what you like about Americans. :) I've just never had an issue with their immigration. Now, if you want to talk tourists from Texas visiting Canada, well then we can talk rude. ;)

Indian Swiss are brothers (per forbes result 1.9)...

I know a few swiss-Indians, they are quite nice people.

French and British are not tourist friendly;

while Americans, Swiss and Germans, I personally found them quite helpful and supportive.

UK on the list so high really find it difficult. Then again its seems the list is prepared by our jealous cousins from across the Atlantic!

MM - everyone I know who has ever travelled stateside has not got a good word to say about them - sorry.

having said that, I did have a run in with a very rude customs official in NZ for bringing in an apple (which I forgot was in my bag) so maybe it is customs and immigration officials who have Axe's to grind.

By Miss Mimi• 9 Apr 2012 09:23
Miss Mimi

Actually I've always found American immigration to be quite friendly (granted I always fly through JFK, so perhaps it's just New Yorkers) a lady at Heathrow was the worst for me. Told me that if it was up to her she wouldn't let me into the country because of the places I've visited.

By anonymous• 9 Apr 2012 09:22

hey why chinese 4.3? we are not rude!! we are delicate!! kung fu punch!!!

MM - my vote for number one welcome to our country is American Homeland security (Immigration) -must be the rudest in all the world by a long chalk

clownfish, maybe your English proficiency is a bit weak! I only stated that France is the country in Europe which has the highest number of tourists. The statistics (?) show that France is the rudest country. So, the logical consequence is that tourists like to be treated rudely. Otherwise, they would choose a different country where they are treated less rudely.

Now, what is rude about these statements?

By drsam• 9 Apr 2012 09:14
drsam

that's a mere personal vue. not a real statistical data.

lol at the comment of "amit" from the same link.

I agree jjj, the only reason Canada must even be on that list is because of Quebec!

My vote is France followed by the UK though.

By jjj75• 9 Apr 2012 08:57
jjj75

I wonder where other is? It is 5th on the list, must avoid going there!!!

For my vote - French Canada, I tried to speak to the locals in my school girl french and they either pretended not to understand and walk off, laughed in my face or said something rude back. I was only trying and only 10 years old.

Hardly a scientific survey since most of the people voting will not have been to most of the destinations. Most voters were from the UK, so it's unlikely many would have been to, say, the Philipines to vote for them?

If anyone bothered to visit Qatar for a holiday I think it would rank pretty high as unfriendly, from the moment you get to the passport desk.

Kiwiinqatar123: I have lived in many places, visited many countries, so I feel I can speak for the perspective of a few different groups.

I get the impression that New Zealand is universally seen as an enviable country, a sanctuary almost, from the madness of the rest of the world.

It certainly is. Visited it twice and was never disappointed.

By cherukkan• 9 Apr 2012 08:34

I think most of the travellers who did not vote will choose France if given chance.

No wonder French-colonized nations are rude tourist destinations to visit lol! They must be following suit!

By Rizks• 9 Apr 2012 08:33

how come India is in this list, we Indians are not rude...we always shake hands and heads whenever we see a tourist ! :(

Very surprised to see NZ in there. Also, I would have expected Australia to be in pole position.

are you from France LP? sometime i find your comment rude.

"Other 6.37" this includes everywhere else?

and something attractive that some specific country is showing only 1.24 ONLY (I don't think so)

Interesting, as France is Europe's number one tourist destination. Obviously tourists prefer to be treated rudely!
