The ZARA treatment

Qatarman
By Qatarman

I have been a ZARA fan since my DUBAI days and haven't had any complaints with the customer treatment that was until I came to QATAR.

Only last thursday I had been to their showroom in VILLAGIO and was surprised to see the shabby treatment that was being vetted out to the customers.I happen to ask from one of the customers service guy if he had a specific shirt size available. The guy disappeared and when I finally caught up with him and repeated my query he told that its not there. So I realized I was very much on my own in the showroom. Finally when I did buy a couple of shirts. At the cash counter they were unceremoniously dumped in to a shopping bag and passed on to me .The customer service did not even make an effort of packing them properly before handing over.

All the customer service guys seem to be from lebanon or so and were considering everyone below them and were happy to serve only their own countrymen.

I wonder if I am the only one who left with a bad taste in the mouth or is there someone else out there with the same feelings. Is there some place where I can complain of such an attitude?

Update : Zara management has taken the time to respond to the complain through:

Dear customers,

We just found out this complains, and we are very sad for hearing this from your side. be sure that an action will be taken and we will work harder on this issue to offer you the best customer service. Hoping from your side to complain to the manager on the spot when any misstreatmnet happens with you.

thank you in advance

best regards

Rotreo, I agree...it also does not help if the Lebanese sales men stand together in groups having a good old chat....and can't be bothered about the customers...and renovating the shop won't make a darn difference either. I don't even go to Zara anymore for about 2 years now...I have tried every now and then, but no, no change and the collections are not worth mentioning either.

Sorry Zara, but you have been a BIG disappointment to many customers.

If the management & the owner are truly committed to customer service, they need to take a hard look on themselves. Attitude of workers more often than not are the true reflection of those of the management or the owner, therefore It’s never enough to make corrections just on the workers level. How the management/owner actually treats the workers is equally important to be looked at.

I totally agree with u ...once my 2 year child was moving her prime here and there and was playing with it and by mistake she hit her prime to one of the lady worker in Zara at Villageo, u will not believe she started to shout at my 2 yr with words of Stupid etc. my bro was standing beside her and lady worker doesn’t know he was with the baby and he gave her good lesson and asked for the Branch manager .So, then she was ashamed of her behavior and apologizing...

My Question is this the way u deal with ur customers specially with just 2 yr child.

Shame on u guys..... Im a big Fan of Zara but the customer service is JUST ZERO plz change Ur staff or give them some lessons how to behave with ur customer.

Wish I could kick those guys out of Villagio. I experienced the same Rude attitude at Zara as mentioned above in this thread.

But I feel a bit satisfied now that I am not the only one who was subjected to this kind of treatment :) At first I thought there was something wrong with me that

these guys are not willing to help.

It was the 1st time I visited ZARA in Qatar. It'd be much better if staff is replaced by Filipinos.

You know what is worse than Zara customer service? A majority of the makeup counter girls who are too freaking busy to help you because they are doing their monsterous makeup half the day, with the store samples none the less. If you want to see a lipstick you have to pry it out of the salesgirls hands.

Dear All,

I have a complain concerning Zara Egypt Karrfour Branch, It was really unblivable. I brought a dress 10 days ago after that I put it on in an occasion my freinds told me that it is cutten from the back looks like a scissors cutting. The gress wasn't expensive almost 230 LE but as a conspect I took it to Zara Store. Can you imagine that ASS sales Manager was there telling me sorry you wear it so take it & live coz i will not do any thing for you. My answer was ok: Just see it no matter to take it or not. I am a Zara Client in Vienna & Spain but there staff are very helpful Why you donn't want to help. The great reply was : WHY DON"T YOU GO AND CHANGE THE DRESS FROM THERE because I will not gonna change it!!! I asked her to meet with the manager , there was another great answer : I AM THE MANAGER HERE I AM THE ONE WHO IS RESPONSIBLE SO TAKE IT AND LIVE?????/

Can any 1 belive that this is a customer service treatment?? Again dress is not the issue the way the lady representing ZARA is the issue.

Many of the stores now should re-access their SALES STAFF, I swear many stores their were more clerks in the store than customers yet I could not even get a question answered. IF A BUSINESS IS failing they should take a good look at their lousy Sales staff you get the impression they make don't get paid as they stand around posing, maybe commission would work better. I once even made the motion I would get rid of them. In the FACES store at Landmark the sales people were too busy visiting with each other and posing, they are wrecking many shops in Doha. Guess the owners are not into the business of making money.

how unfortunate that you were treated shabbily by their staff.im a hardcore shopper, patron in their store and have not yet experienced such atrocities.have it been me,,,i would have raised hell and demanded the resignation of their lazy staff, including their manager.

Last week on Wednesday, i visited Zara at the Landmark in search of formal skirts. My eyes fell on a lovely one and i decided to pick it up. But i found some stains and checked with the sales guy to see if he has another peice to replace. He checked and got back to me with none. Hence he suggested that he would send it to the Zara Laundry and get it cleaned. He took down my name and number and told me that after a day it would be ready to pick up. When i returned after 2 days(Saturday), he informs me that it is not there. I was not too sure what he was saying. By then, another sales guy came along and asked me who did i give the skirt to?I pointed it to the first sales guy who took care of my order. Then these guys were discussing in Arabic which looked like my skirt was lost! This other sales guy tells me that the skirt was not at all sent to the laundry in the first place!I was shocked. But since i was in a good mood and dint want to loose my skirt. I told him i want that skirt somehow. Even if it takes 2 more days, i will come and take it. This guy was so apologetic. But to my suprise, the sales guy(lebanese) who was dealing with me initially was not bothered! He was just smiling and telling me to come back..I must mention, these people were lucky cuz generally i do not keep quiet and accept this kind of attitude...

I will be going tomorrow to Landmark and definitely this time, im ready to give them a peice of my mind!!!!

I believe that Zara Managment will take this issue seriously.QL is really effective and known to many in Qatar.

Generally CS in Doha is not reaching the level of money being paid. and thru QL we can raise similar issues and I believe it will make a diffrence. what do you think?

So is there any more complaines?? I think a lot...

I've had good experiences at H&M. The cashiers usually greet me and say thank you. At Christmas time, I saw a scarf I wanted to get for my daughter. It was the "last piece" (another thing about shopping here-- it's ALWAYS the "last piece!!!! How is that possible???).

Anywayyy... the scarf was on a mannequin, way up high on a display shelf. One of the salesmen happily got a ladder, climbed up and got it for me!!! NO eye-rolling, sighing, or scowling!!!

NOT a typical experience around here.

And eyhab... ditto!!!!!!!!!! to everything you said!

I understand the way you feel as have had the same treatment myself.

Bossini, in the Hyaat Plaza is another shop I am reluctant to go into again, the assistants follow you around the shop at a distance of no more than two steps away, this is quite intimidating and I was put off from shopping there, they did however have a suggestion book on the counter and as well as speaking to the manager of my experience I also made sure I wrote the problem down.

Am shopping again soon and hope the situation no longer exists.

Anyone else had the same treatment??

I have always been disappointed with the level of customer service they offer here in Doha. One of the reasons could be that those guys in Zara and others (wearing 1KG of jel and suit) are both not well trained and way under paid. I am not trying to justify their actions but they seem like not interested in what they do.

I think one of the few things you can do in this country is shopping (nevertheless, variety is limited). These salesmen at Zara and others ruin it for you and I personally don't blame people for holding their shopping spree until they get to a decent country where they can more with less and at the same time get lot more joy of an experience.

I would have to agree with "notfromhere", my wife has the same comments that she feels they look down on her when she enters that store and others, as if what are you doing in here, there is nothing that you would look good in or have the money to buy (which is not the case). It bothers her when they follow her around not asking if she wishes help but just ajusting items after she looks at them, sometimes she hasn't even moved on and I have witnessed this. When she does ask for something they just say finished without calling the other stores to see if they have the item. She also finds that the shopping selections and styles here aren't always age & size appropriate.

Many of us (myself included) have become so used to the poor Customer Service, and the run-around when trying to do something about it, that we just roll our eyes and say "Welcome to Qatar".

Good for you Qatarman for speaking up! It's the only way things will ever change.

As for me, I'm not much of a shopper. Usually buy my clothes in the US, where I can find age-appropiate comfortable items, lol!  Way too old for super-low-rise jeans!

My teenage daughter likes Zara clothes, but won't go in there without me, and that goes for both Landmark and Villagio. She says "I always feel like they're judging me!"

I don't care much about how they get the clothing into the bag, but they are just so darn RUDE!!!! No greeting, not even any acknowledgment of your existence. They don't even look you in the eye!

We had these same comments on the Carrefour thread, and I agree with Oryx. These people are just not trained in CS.

You have great products.... and thank you for looking into the standard of service to bring it up to the standards in Spain and Portugal etc.

I think number one is to teach the Lebanese guys to fold clothes.

I just say nothing remove the squashed items from the bag and fold them in front of them.

One guy laughed once and said, 'I can't do that'.

I find Landmark Zara more helpful.

Customer care is a foreign concept in Qatar.  Sales people base their treatment of the customer on his skin colour and what he's wearing.  If I wear a cheap T-shirt, everyone ignores me.  If I wear a nice shirt and tie, their quite helpful.

This is especially true with government offices.   In the past, I had to go with dw (darling wife) to a government office (next to LuLu Centre) just for them to listen to her.  The office ladies there (sitting in their expensive abayas) will do nothing for dw..only "hallas...hallas".   When I came with dw, these women stopped their chatting with each other and started to pretend to work.  They were quite helpful for dw.  They finally did the paperwork to register dw as a RN.

"if you have low expectations its hard to be disappointed." Well said. LOL! This applies to almost all retail outlets in Qatar. However, I've found a few exceptions - Banana Republic and Gap have pretty good salespeople. Salam is good too. The classic Qatari sales attitude actually drove me to open an Aramex account and do all my clothes shopping on Amazon.

next time go there again and tell them "excuse me, if you doing this again, i will report you to your manager or worse I publish your low level services in paper".  Hope that wake them up.
