Arabic Learning Thread

Dear QLers,
Last year I used to post daily here on the main forum a few Arabic words which are commonly used and might be helpful in our daily life in Qatar.
Now upon request of some precious QL friends I will try to post again hoping that it might help some of the readers in a way or other.
So let’s try to memories some basic words:
Words:
Ams = Albareha = Yesterday
Alyaom = Today
Bokra = Ghadan = Tomorrow

Quiz:
1- What is the Arabic word for “DAY”?
2- What is the English translation of “Yaom Jameel, Alaysa Kazalek”?

All comments and suggestion are always welcome.

U should learn the common Arabic here lol which is not qatari, not Lebanese not syrian...

Saying "wein enta nafar shouf Ana moumken Baden or enta fi yiji 7in or mafi yom jib hada aghrad Ana!!!!! And If i try to reply, " hmmmmmm mafi maaloum, enta fi kalam arabi?"

Please learn Arabic so you don't speak like this :(

So we all ( arab)can teach our friends here the same words.

For me as a Syrian guy can understand all Arabic slang, but prefer to use formal Arabic as much as i can. I know it is hard, but we should try

OK this is exactly what i mean to say

Rajol = Man in Formal Arabic

Zalamay = Man in Lebanese/Syrian

Zool = Man in Sudani

Reggal = Man in Egyptian

Rayyal = Man in GCC

etc..

Osama... then you can teach them "lak shu bek yazzalamay" :P .. LOL

Well .. no i didnt, but nothing's true on my profile so dont go for it ..haha :D

CL: did u just changed ur profile nationality!?

i agree TB, but to be frank there might be a lot of words which I don't know the Qatari slang of it as we Syrian/Lebanese have our different slang than Egyptians and different than GCC locals.

But the formal language is same everywhere so i preferred to follow that.

Finally we are trying to learn Arabic not slangs

osama.. i agree with you, and as i said very well done.. but it would be more fun if you teach local accent.. like "Shlonak" = "how are you - for males" and "Shlonech" = "how are you - for females" .. haha

CL: it's more difficult to teach local language when no voice feature is available. and finally this is just a hints not a professional course so in my opinion whatever the learner can grab from here is better than nothing, some over smart person will start telling "you should say (alaysa kathalek) not (kazalek)" so the reply is that i am just trying to show how it is spelled.
