Arabic words for the day
If we learn just one or two Arabic words per day, imagine how many we would have in our vocabulary after only a year. So for today:
mushmis -- sunny
ghaa'im -- cloudy
I've taken these from an English-Arabic dictionary, and knowing that Arabic comes in many forms (Egyptian, Gulf, Eastern, etc.), I would greatly appreciate it if Arabic speakers could confirm that these terms are correct and they are the onese used here in Doha.
In my experience, it is also better to associate new words with something so that they are retained forever in your memory. Try it!
from my co-workers. Now I know. thanks.
yes dpatrick, you are right
and here are some useful words for insulting purpose:
Hemar = donkey
Kalb = dog
Baghl = mule
temsah = crocodile
bakara = cow
Lobot, according to my limited Arabic knowledge, "enta hamar" actually means "you are a donkey," which is commonly used to insult someone.
Doha so that i can apply this too. its very interesting. very educative and fun.
what about anta humar? just often heard it from my co egyptian worker shouting to a nepali office boy.

Shukran :o)
No brit, "intee mnaowara alyoum" = you are shining today
so could i say..
Formatted soul, intee mushmis al youm ?
yes formatted soul, correct
so what do you asy for 'its sunny today'?
Aliyom Mushmis? I know few words..but i dunno how to say it as a sentence..
Qataris use classical Arabic heavily so using these words is definitely ok. You can use them in any Arab country and they'd be understandable because they are THE words to use for sunny/cloudy... the dialects change them around a bit, that's all.
those are correct but since today is sandy you should add (Ramly = sandy)
check with FANAR...near to Qatar Central Bank corniche building..
But are these the terms used locally or not, this would need a Qatari to reply.
Thanks for the confirmation, Innocent84007! Really appreciate it.
Yes these terms are correct!!
