Are we allowed to date?

My boyfirend and I will be arriving in Doha on Nov.3. He will be working for a new hotel and I for Qatar Airways...

We are worried on how we will be able to go on dates. Of course, the country's laws, culture, etc., are always on mind.

Is it ok to go shopping, watch movies, dine out-together?

Please help us out...Thanks!

You can date, but be discreet in public! Being from the Philippines, you may be under scrutiny more than a Westerner. Except for your trusted friends, I would tell people you are married if asked.

You can be taken to court for illicit relations even if they only suspect you are doing something inappropriate. Usually in these cases the accused is found not guilty because there is no evidence, but under Qatari law even if you are found not guilty, you will still be deported. There are many cases like this reported in the Gulf-Times.

remember one thing, absolutely no kissing in public places, a peck on the cheek may be fine, no passionate embraces, some may do it, but if anyone takes an objection then you are in trouble, otherwise there is no problem, dating, dining, movies, shopping so on and so forth.people are very tolerant here, so unless you rub them the wrong way, no one will bother you.

Millenium Hotel.

Anybody know where this is? Is it near Qatar Airways' residences?

You can really have a very normal life here. Just be a little bit sensitive in terms of saving your displays of affection in private rather than in public places. Otherwise you can live much the same as anywhere else.
