The Bidding Nation? you gotta be kidding me

I should speak out today coz am so disappointed by Qatar
Here is the story
After a busy and hectic week, I had a chance to chill out with my friend. We really had a good day till the night when our excitement was distracted by a certain Qatari man at Aspire Park. As we all know all Eyes of the world are on one event i.e. the world cup which is taking place in South Africa. This big event is believed to bring people, in every corner of the world, in to unity and brotherhood. However, this great purpose of this event seems to be ignored here in Qatar, would be bidding nation. There is a big screen at Aspire Park so that people could watch football in an open air, celebrating victory, friendship, unity and brotherhood. However, nobody is allowed to enter to the park and watch his favourite team because it is “family day”.
I can say that more that 85% of the expats here are living alone leaving their beloved families back home. Everybody has a family. No human being is without a family. What is the purpose of prohibiting someone who is working for the development of the country form enjoying the world cup just because it is a family day? What are they trying to tell us? What does family mean after all? I know that we should respect the rules and regulations of the host country but to be honest this is too much. The world is becoming a village with expansion of communication technology. The people are becoming one family. So why is it that Qatar telling the expats that they are not part of this “big” family? May be they didn’t understand the meaning of family. If they know that we don’t have a family here, they should embrace and make us feel that we are home in a family. They are too selfish. The funny thing about the park is that there were only few families there.
How does this help Qatar to bid? Japan, the other bidding nation, is thinking of building virtual stadiums where fans, from every corner of the world, could enjoy watching the game feeling as if they are on the spot. How can FIFA be sure that Qatar is not gonna allow spectators to enter to the stadium because it is a “family day”? Qatar better think! You should show some respect for individuals. You should celebrate friendship, interaction, brotherhood and sharing, if you really want to host this “big” event and write a history. Even, if you win, you should know that there is nothing that you could do without the support of the expats. You have to admit that you are handicapped without “us”. I know that i am being harsh; it is coz i missed watching my favourite team, Ghana, playing.
Wish all the best to Ghana!!

They have dreamed of hosting a World Cup. They have even gone so far as to bid in taking their dreams in the right step. Too late for us to keep hoping for changes.

Qatar is a crazy in terms of their rules.. But expats have no choice but to abide on their law.. I think they do not consider us expats as a family member but as workers and sometimes slaves.. and with regard to their bid to FIFA, definitely they wont get it..

Hope Qatar sort out these issues before they even dream of hosting a World cup :-)

All you men out there, please answer.....Do you actually stop looking at other women after marriage? Is it that your male hormones are suppressed after having family? Were you all sick perverts when you were/are bachelors?

Thats right for sure. Could be that i have used the wrong words, I am sorry about that.

I think we know now that we are meaning.

but anyway i hope england will kick out the germans today!!

Thank you kralibo, that's precisely what I meant. No point in putting out the small dark guy example as it's clearly unrelated to this thread and does not help with anything.

KralIbo

once again, i didnt say that ALL are the same. And I didnt say that we shall ban all small dark guys! The mankind did this in the past and we still trying to solve it out.

If it makes you feel happy you can ban all Austrian men everybody is free to share his minds here i guess.

Im not judging a nation or a folk here.

For me it is hard to understand why they let black bachelor outside and let white bachelor in on a "family day".

By deepb• 27 Jun 2010 09:23

An Austrian man did this -

http://edition.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/europe/04/28/austria.cellar/

We should ban all Austrian men now. Don't you agree?

I can share newspaper articles of people sexually harassing women irrespective of which country they come from or their marital status. Maybe we should just ban men/women all together and that will prevent this? Make it like Saudi ?

FU, I can only tell u what i heard from my friend. It might be a true story or not.

He and his wife are not longer living in Doha they left last year and I am here since 2 months.

I dont know if they went to police or not. But if youre so interested i will ask him for more details

Kral - Where did she run away? Your story sounds so believable. I'am curious to the core.

So the 'small dark guy' sexually harassed her...and then...?

A fried of me told me last time that his wife was "sexually harassed" by the driver (a small dark guy)!!! He stopped the car and started to touch her, she had to run away!

So now I understand this "Family days"

@ nomerci,i've said this on similar threads before & i'll say it again here, but before that, may i add that your replies come off as EXTREMELY racist, although i sincerely hope that isn't your intention & i apologize beforhand if it isn't...anyways just to be fair to those guys, thought i should raise this point here...

Could we agree that ALL GCC capitals are to some degree or another amidst a construction/building boom? & hence ALL these capitals have large numbers of low income single Asian workers? yet Dubai, for example, which in all likelihood has FAR more single low income male expats than Qatar does not seem to have this problem, they don't have these ridiculous "family days" @ ANY of their major malls or other venues(& there is PLENTY to choose from compared to Qatar) know why that is?...

Because those low-income single expats have their own venues to choose from where other people from their social strata gather,if this town were to consider their needs & offer them an alternative, like maybe a nice big park in the Industrial area with a big screen showing the games, how many of these guys do you think would come to "bother" "families" @ Aspire Park?...exactly,hardly any & they wouldn't need to have this stupid regulation in the first place...

They've spent what, about 3 billion on their "bid" so far already?...surely setting up a park with a big screen in the Industrial Area will cost FAR less wouldn't you agree?...

Don't blame local lack of vision on those poor low income workers, they even attempt to get into the stupid malls simply because they have nowhere else to go,give them a choice & then see how many take the trouble coming to the mall or Aspire Park, hardly any,i guarantee you...like i said,Dubai is living proof of what could've been here...

The original poster has raised some very valid points in that in this day & age with borders blurring & the world becoming smaller & people coming together more, this "family day" practice seems neanderthal to put it mildly & if these guys have realistic intentions of hosting the WC 2022,they can start by stopping these 19th century gender segregation practices...

@ Xena, your local friend couldn't handle the truth, which is that as things stand,it is indeed laughable that this town would allow alcohol sales in restaurants when they've actually revoked liquor licenses of ALL but 5 star hotels(4 star & some 3 stars had licenses until some months back)...

You could've went to souq waqef. As far as I know , aspire park screen is not hosted by the 2022 bid committee.

I agree with you, why host A screening of the world cup in a public park and apply entry restriction policy?

Whether we were a bidding nation or not, it still sounds ridicules

& I do not mind the "family day" policy at all.

It's not all of us who're, apparently, angry at whites or Qatar for these rules.

Tell you what, we have two options here; 1. These guys could be stopped at the entrance, 2. I could stare at every each of'em thinking or at times asking "what the F*^%# you lookin at?" when I'm walking around with my girl.

I think prefer the first one. I can write down a frikkin list of whats absolutely wrong in or about Qatar but not this.

FU, I am grateful for every little bit I have...each and every day, trust me on that one.

But see, being clean and behaving somewhat appropriately is not that difficult. A deodorant costs about 3 QR, and lasts about a month. not ogling does not cost anything. so, if spending 3 QR a month and not ogling makes my life better, I would surely do it....but heck, it is easier to complain....or so it seems.

Look, you have to do what is needed, nobody else will do it for you...although there seem to be a lot of people who do not know this.

By anonymous• 26 Jun 2010 23:30

Nomerci - Sometimes I feel the best way to understand god is to look at the 'haves and the have nots' and be thankful for having what others can't. No Matter how hard they try.

FU, those basic things should be supplied to them.Obviously. That would solve the problem amicably. and they should be instructed on appropriate behaviour.

Having cheap labour is one thing, but with that come responsiblities. Yes, yes, they don't even house them properly...I know.

But here is the thing....if I want my life to be better, I have to oblige the rules....and if that means I can't ogle and smell bad, as unfair as that may seem, then I have to go for it or suffer the consequences.

See, what I also have been told, mistreatment often happens due to lack of respect, due to lack of basic knowledge of proper behaviour and basic hygiene...see, I am not saying this is fair, because I know life isn't.
