Helpful Strangers in Qatar

Ok here's another story.

We went to Al Khor to meet an Arab friend. The friend we went to meet was deep asleep. So we thought to goto beach and return back when he awakes. It was around 3 in the afternoon. My friend who drives the car is too short and often couldn't see what's right in front of the car. There was a slope near the road and the car fell into it! The car got stuck over a big stone in the front. The car stands with front down into the slop. We tried for 20 minutes and nothing worked.. Then a Qatari in Landcruiser happend to pass by..

He stopped and asked us if we have rope. We said no. He parked his car and then went to nearby construction site and took a long and thin iron rod. It was full of rust. He came to us with it and he asked if we could see a hook behind the car - we looked and we never saw it coz all that part was hard top under the sand. Then he kneeled, and put his head under the little space uder the car. He put the rod through it and spend five minutes wrestling with the iron rod trying to get into the hook. We wer helping him from the other rod. Finally we were able to pull out the car.

He said ok and was about to leave as soon as our car was pulled out. I looked at the man... His thoube was fully stained with sand and crease from under the car. His hand was hurt catching the iron rusted rod. We thanked him alot and asked his name. His name was MISNAD. We understood that he was cousin of the friend whom we came to meet.

May god bless him. I include him in my prayers now.

And On face book underneath we have written "this man saved our lives" perhaps melodramatic, although It was August 50C and we were running low on Water !!. And it was getting dark.

He definitely was a good guy and I felt guilty that we couldn't join him for a coffee afterwards when he invited us all to his house. Sadly it was getting really dark and we were in the middle of no where, I was pretty worried about finding the way home.

I regret not being able to share in the hospitality of a very decent bloke.

We were stuck in the Sand and were rescued by a chap that lived in a rudimentary house down on the coast near Dukhan. Not sure if he was a native Qatari he certainly wasn't wearing a Throbe. Any way he spent ages digging us out found a rope in his house and with the help of a bemused looking Policeman in a 4x4 dragged us out of the sand.

Nice guy.

Father Ted, perhaps we don't post them because they are few and far between, I would be happy to post more stories if I had em.

Funny how you never see those who constantly bash the country on other threads yet claim to love it, ever post in these kind of threads. I have mentioned in the past that yes, a lot of people here can be very generous and kind-hearted.

I am new to Qatar and I have heard of incidents from expatriates that I am meeting about their "run-ins" with some of the Qatari People. While the logical side of me thinks that not all of this is true and that there are two sides to every story, the not so logical side has wondered if I made the right decision to come here. Please note that I have not had anything negative happen to me personally (other than a few close calls while driving), but I have heard stories that are not just an illustration of rudeness but in some instances truly scary. It is nice to hear stories about the kindness of the Qatari people and I for one would like to hear more. Thank you Mufy for giving me some hope that I have made the right decision coming here.

Well I have always believed that the good always exists and is always around you. Its only when you are able to find it.

I have had several instances with Good Qatari People coming to offer help. I have tonnes of experience like my car getting stuck in Umm Said, or engine over heating, etc. I am born and brought up in Qatar, and I lived my life being with Qatari People, their culture. Most of all are kind, generous, Giving and caring. I have seen so many poor people offered iftar meals during Ramadan and many such situations where the kindness has been shown. But now its obvious if there is good there is bad. But then again.. this is life..

May the Almighty bless all those Helping Hands that come at the Right Time of need..

I like to think human nature is always on the good side and that there are so many fewer of the bad ones, but the bad ones are, unfortunately, the ones we always hear about!

So, thanks Mufy for reaffiming the good ones are out there!!!!

reading your story ... i remembered our experience few months back during last winter.

we took our son to the beach in Al Wakra. Then we stop somewhere to see some flamingo down the beach. Then there is this landcruiser with young qatari guy approaching our car. My husband start getting worry thinking what do they want. When they reached us all they asked was wether we are ok or we need any help with our car. Maybe they thinking we are stuck and need some assistance.

You see ... i told you ... there are good qatari too here :-)
