I read everywhere that public displays of affection are a big NO NO.
The extreme examples I understand, but what's ok... holding hands, a quick peck on the cheeks, cuddling, putting your arm around someone (ie. your spouse?)...
Colt is right, the airport departure/arrival lounges are probably the most liberal public spaces in this country!!!...yeah,hugging & even a quick kiss is ok there...
It's not about having guts, it's not only me, everyone does it... it's just a norm that when you see a loved one arriving or departing, you display affection, be it public or private. It's just that you have to remember not to get carried away here.
The cops at the airport understand this and that is why they turn a blind eye towards it.
it is acceptable to hug your husband when you see him at the airport, or even on departure. I do that with family right in front of the cops outside departure immigration and they don't make an issue of it.
You can even give him a goodbye/ welcome back kiss on the cheeks, but you can't go on mooching like you would in the west. ;-)
thank you Pilgrim, finally a more reasoned response. since i am not in Doha yet I just wanted to get an idea of what's ok. for example. is it ok to hug my husband when i see him at the airport? it's a natural reaction to greet this way all over the world at airports, so just wanting to make sure.
@ qatarigirlzdontflirt, if being articulate makes someone a cripple, i don't know what that makes you
Holding hands or putting your hand through you spouses arm is perfectly acceptable. Although to be honest its taken some time for my husband and I to feel comfortable doing that since we still have a bit of a "we're still just dating mentality"
Feel free to put your arm around your spouse, but probably not for a prolonged period, ditto with cuddling.
@ mrvm, someone seems to be having a bad day mate, ignorance is bliss i say!...as WK pointed out,it's a grey area, depends on the situation which is usually easily assesed in my opinion...i.e,if you're @ a private party or a bar etc. with no locals/conservative Arabs around, should be fine...if not, refrain from anything beyond holding hands...when in Rome & all that jazz...
@qatarigirlzdontflirt, please spare us the diatribe. i was simply asking about more 'subtle forms of affection'... I have no intention of offending.
And for the record, spouse does imply married, which is true in my case. I'm also not Arab anything, so not sure what your Arab woman commentary was all about.
@ qatarigirlzdontflirt, eh?...the OP did end his/her post with "(i.e your spouse)" so it's pretty clear he/she already has a "somebody to express it with" right?! :)...i'm not bashing either, just clarifying...peace!...
My friend i think the problem isn’t going to be showing the affection, it’s going to be finding that somebody to express it with . . . not to bash your post but I’d say in the next 20 minutes Somebody "maybe" of Arab decent is gona be like
WHY YOU WANT SHOW EFFECT ARAB WOMAN!
WHY YOU COME QATAR
ARAB WOMAN YOUR BOSS YOU NOT WHY RESPECT ?
Yada Yada Yada......
And then Some Teen Brit comes out of nowhere trying to contradict what you said into something else which will leave you scratching your head for about 10 minutes wondering how retarded he actually is ...
oh and i forgot about the feminist human rights lady who works as a f & B manager in some shitty hotel schooling you on how you should and shouldn’t act in Qatar while she’s a half Jew to begin with.
Sigh.

To answer your question honestly I’d say stay away from public affection in a country where you could get arrested for scratching your balls in public.

It's just that i never tried doing all these at airport..Didn't even do when i saw my hubby after 1yr..:)
May be i am a SHY PERSON to reveal any sort of affection in public..
It's ok mate, i have seen many couples showing their affection this way..Chillax!

Well to hold your spouse's hand in full public glare is not an offense here..
I would say to stay away from kissing or cuddling when out in public place..
Colt, kudos to your guts..:))
Colt's right Mrvm, hug away at the airport, even sneak a quick kiss. The airport is a little more lenient. ;)

I wouldn't try kissing in anyway.

Happy Hunting !
i dont think i see the ones u mentioned in qatar that often :/
Here's an idea.
take a little time to look around and observe the culture / society around you. that should give you an idea of what is acceptable.
regarding your question , all of what you mentioned is not preferable to be showed in public .
It's a grey area, nothing clear cut.. Just use your best judgement and try not to offend anyone..
At the recent Argentina- Brazil football game, the couple sitting in next line to us were all over each other and nobody was bothered..
