Maybe you're right Asinine it shouldn't have gotten here but please re-read the thread, I never generalized, I always referred to the few ppl with that sort of negative behavior sorry if it was taken otherwise but it is strictly addressed towards those who come here and criticize just for the sake of it and from a racist background.

I promise you I will disregard any further posts in that sense and have my slice of Pizza, American one...

Cheers

Well, my previous comment was based on the notion that one shouldnt post a forum that can raise so many issues. Your post itself provided the ground for the trolls to loiter around and crap all over it.

People are racist in general. They have all those celebrity backed programs and organizations to eliminate this problem, but its rooted deep within the human minds. Dont get me wrong, but you cannot teach people how to think, nor you can tell them what to do if they dont like something. Its completely upto them, and ranting here all day wont do any good. You're just feeding the trolls.

I get what you tried to convene, I didnt get it at the beginning just by reading the post, so I went all ballistic just to shut all of em before this post gets all flamboyant and starts burning with all its fiery rage. Well, I dont know, it never stopped and the hell broke loose.

Anyways, just to point something out, trolls will post anything just to get some attention, whether its some racist comments or some sexist jokes, it doesnt really matter. A troll behind the screen doesnt have the thing that we call "shame"/ But by far, TonyHanna1 you've proven yourself the most racist person in this forum, you stereotyped more than anyone.

And not everyone is here for the ostentatious lifestyle this country provides, the idea is superficial and skin deep only. For instance, I am here on a research trip for four months at QSTP, and will head back to the states as soon as I am done.

Dont get all raged up because some troll is pestering you, take a chill pill, with a cup of coffee, hit the loo, relieve yourself, and kick back, turn on the TV and enjoy a beer with a slice of pizza.

I know it does not work like that for you guys and I feel sorry for you and I understand your frustrations and defensiveness. But, We don't come here because we have no job or food to eat back home lol. Did you look up this one on google too? lol

Don't be upset Flor, if they were better than that in their own countries they wouldn't have ended up here coz' unlike us, they have better opportunities in their countries, but they are very much out of reach for them, so we end up having to take it from them here as they are unemployed, failures or worse, outlaws in their countries.

Flor, no need to be upset. Reality is that in Qatar, Asians in general are not the smartest out there. Asians are known for their intelligence world-wide, but for some reason, most of the ones in here are the ones not fortunate enough to go elsewhere and get paid big, which is why they end up here. "Again, thanks to the system that bases salaries on nationalities", which is why people complain and which is why some degenerates ask people to either shut up or leave.

Most of my professors at my university were Asians. No one doubts their capabilities, but look around you and tell me what you think...

There are certain reasons Tony, I think these are few of those reasons:

1. Some cannot leave Qatar because of the better salary that they can get here than home.

2, Some cannot leave because their employer/s wouldn't allow them to or even threatened to cancel their visa. (which will hold your chances to get a better company)

3. Some cannot leave because their passport is in their employer's care.

4. Some cannot leave despite the fact that they were mistreated here in Qatar, they're still thinking about the remittance that they could make for their family.

5. Some cannot leave even though they are dying to but their employer/s withheld their salary for 4 or 5 months and cannot afford to buy his/her own ticket way back home.

And all they can do is.... sigh, complain, pray, and wait for a miracle to happen.

Easy to say... if you dont like it, leave! Different complaints, different circumstances.

And oh! by the way, I hate the trend of their clothes here,,,, does that makes me wanna leave Qatar?

When does one complaint? Its when you like something & do not want to leave. Instead you want it to improve & become more likeable. Why do people take criticism in such a negative way? Why do you complaint against your spouses, is it because you want to leave them? What if your spouse constantly kept saying if you don't like everything about me, leave me. Won't it be insane?

Fubar, there are some companies who treat the westerns as slave as well. I dont want to mention the companies anymore...honestly, I am still scared that something worst will happen to those westerns I personally knew. Also, try to google the "danger living in Qatar"

fubar, could it be that a Qatari businessman also respects humans? I guess, I have met those. And if you look closely: who are the managers mistreating employees? Qataris? I think most of them are not!!

There is no freedom of speech here, and there is no freedom of speech in Myanmar, too. But there are always people who say that there wasn't freedom of speech. And these people should shut up, because they disturb the 'peace'. It's better to live in 'peace' than to practise one's human rights! Or is it?

By fubar• 27 Nov 2011 13:57
fubar

I have to say that living here has taught me to be grateful that I am not Indian of Filipino.

Man those guys get screwed over here by practically everything. Lower pay, worse treatment, no respect.

But perhaps western people get treated better here because we have the balls to complain about it?

If I was a Qatari sponsor who could treat my 140 Indian laborers like crap knowing that they would never, ever complain, then why would I provide them with decent working conditions?

By jjj75• 27 Nov 2011 13:53
jjj75

what I don't like is that we are not allowed to say what we think and more importantly we are just 'supposed' to turn a blind eye to some of the very bad things that go on here.

Notice, top of my list of things that are wrong here are the flagrant human rights abuses that go on here. I am lucky, this does not affect me but I feel someone has to stand up and be counted to say 'no, this is wrong and we have to highlight this'

Please Tony, tell me exactly where we can say these things? As there is no freedom of the press here and negative coverage is covered up all the time, we have no avenue but this one. If you were to get you own way, we would never talk about, thus allowing perpetrators to literally get away with murder

Regardless of where we are, if we see or experience something unacceptable by us, we as human beings will complain. Of course it makes more logical sense to present our issues to a person of authority and power who can actually help us, but its still very therapeutic to discuss it with like-minded and/or sympathetic people as well.

I don't know about anyone else but even when I was back in my country of birth if I didn't like something I'm not gonna shut up about it! Similarly as much as I love living here, far more than I have loved living anywhere else, if I see or go through negative things then I will express my feelings. Doesn't mean I'd rather be anywhere else though as I know by now no country is perfect!

Fubar, I know, for someone who is a teacher, his desire to shut down free speech is astonishing

When there is another thread about Pork and Alcohol I'll be sure to direct them to this thread then.

If you don't like the idea of pork being available for sale, and soon in shops and restaurants and hotels, you know where to go. Home.

Also Tony - I think that you need a dose of Voltaire but as a teacher I would have expected you to know that.

Some of us actually do like it here and have no desire to move. Because of that, we do feel like we have a right to complain about some things, just like we would in our home country, with the hope that someone in power will change things. No country or place is perfect and nothing will change if you don't voice your complaints.

There are a section of QLers who want to believe (see translation = pretend) that nothing bad ever happens here and those that say so are nasty seditious people who should go back where they belong.

They live in a fairy fog which has massive blinkers/rose tinted view of Qatar, it goes something like this:

1. Qatar has a terrible human rights record - Response - "How dare you, no is has not, go back where you came from"

2. Qatar has a terrible problem with road safety - Response - "How dare you, no is has not, go back where you came from"

3. Qatar has very little going on, Response - "How dare you, it has plenty going on, go back where you came from"

4. Qatar is very expensive - Response - "How dare you, no it is not, go back where you came from"

To be honest, I could go on but we have all been round this hilarious merry go round too many times.

I am not sure what people are hoping to achieve by denying what is right under their noses? Do they want to become Qatari - got news for you buddy, that ain't never going to happen.

This may not be the most popular post you'll read on QatarLiving.com, but it might be the most honest....

I've spent nearly 4 yrs in the Gulf between Doha and Bahrain. I have yet to meet ONE ex-pat that is here for anything other than money No one truly likes this place, but it's the best alternative to whatever their bad situation was at home. If the locals weren't.....well, let's just say, "the locals" ....then it might actually be a somewhat enjoyable experience. The ex-pats put up with the locals until they just can't stand it anymore and go back home.

Further insight......

There are other countries in which to make decent money as an ex-pat. More money can be made in some less desirable places in the world (hazardous zones), but you can't bring your family with you in most cases. You could go to Europe or Australia, for example, where the people are 5000x more friendly, outgoing, courteous, etc., but you're not going to make big money. Qatar is just lousy enough to pay good money to ex-pats (being a somewhat less desirable place to live, relatively speaking) and the low crime rate is suitable enough to bring your family to live with you.

So when the locals say "If you don't like it, leave", believe me, 99% of us would LOVE to get out of here on the next flight out and we're all saving up as frantically as possible to do so, but this is where we are "paying our dues" so we can go back to our own country and actually enjoy our lives and the people we live amongst again. Sorry, but this is how the vast majority of ex-pats feel.

think that when you voice an opinion that its automatically assumed you don't like the place you are in.

I think that the way people are raised in these countries shows there is very little individualism - they are all taught like puppets and don't think for themselves but are told what and how to think and if you don't follow the majority, you become an outcast.

Unlike western cultures - your freedom to think and feel what you want to think and feel is how we are raised.

I also believe that alot of jealousy stems from cultures that conform, because they have no idea how to attain individuality - so they just continue to follow the crowd.

really, y don't u then accept what I am saying u democracy preachers? I m not kicking any one out, I am recommending the most intelligent and reasonable thing to do when you are so negative about a country, and I mentioned "some" WL users who are always critical and seem to be soooo depressed to be here!

Nothing in the world can make me stay in a country if I am so unhappy as them, ...

I am free to discuss whatever I want here!

everyone has the freedom of speech to say whatever they want

And if some people don't like hearing others complaining, then they should take their own advice and leave, right?
