Learning Arabic
As a working expat in Qatar, I think one of the most important things to do is to learn the local language. I understand that there are different variations of the Arabic language. I'd like to hear from community members here about learning the local dialect.
1 - Which institutes/ centers offer classes for the local dialect?
2- How much would a beginner's course cost?
3 - Does anyone have any experience with a language instructor who can teach children Arabic at home?
Would appreciate any help.
Thanks!

Apart from going to learning centers, the best way to learn the local or the khaleeji dialect is to interact with the Qataris whenever possible. However, since the Qataris are a rare breed in their own country, the best alternative is to turn on the television and tune into some of the khaliji channels that air shows, cartoons etc for the children. Growing up in Qatar, I used to watch Iftah Ya Simsim, which is the Arabic version Sesame Street.
I also find watching khaleeji shows with subtitles very helpful. Netflix has got a few khaleeji shows. Try it out and good luck learning.
There are several institutes in Doha that offer classes to non-Arabic learners. You could call them and found out their charges, timings etc. Here is the link:
