My first visit to the Grand Mosque

Salaam alaikum,

I'm going to the masjid at the end of this month. Do they still have the rule that children below eight are not allowed into the prayer hall?

So I'm guessing you are another of those who hate islam and muslims yet realise that only under islamic law can you make any money. In your own country they charge extortionate ammounts of money for tax, national insurance, rent, gas and electric bills and council tax, whereas in a muslim country under shari'ah law you get to keep all of your earnings.

If you hate muslims so much I can do you a favour, I can tell the police about your offensive comment about islam and see if they can help you by kicking you out of the country that is allowing you to earn good money unlike your own stealing 'democratic' joke of a country.

Why dont you take the time to look into Islam instead of making offensive comments. As you lot always tell muslims in the west, if you dont like it, get out, or 'when in Rome....'. 'Go home' as they say in the west. Well I am a muslim who left the west to come and live with muslims where i can hear the call to prayer and live under some form of shari'ah, and I find haters of islam here taking money whilst slagging the religion off that allows you to make the money. Its the quran you hate that has said there is no tax except zakat for muslims, a mere 2.5% of our yearly earnings and the non muslims have to pay the jizya tax, a very small sum of money.

All praise is due to Allah, the most merciful and beneficient for sending this religion to mankind.

Well may be, after having kids, I become the same as others, and Yup right, Children must start praying once they reach to the 7. and may those crying and screaming were more younger! But in Grand mosque it was a sudden roar type of thing..

I agree that we must try to become like Sahabah and Prophet, But there is always a but..............!!!

shmashoom--non-Muslims are allowed allowed to visit as formal tours. In my experience, they are incredibly hospitable and accommodating, and have appropriate attire available for visiting ladies. My visit was one my most memorable experiences in Qatar.

Yeah It is very nice, i prayed many times there, I dont know if they allow non muslims to enter, In Dubai there is a mosque in Jumeira where every thursday they bring tours to that mosque, and allow non muslims to see it from inside and even take photos, but i dont know if they do it here. I think if anyone wants to go he/she needs to be accompanied by a friend who can guide him/her there and tell him/her what to do and what not to do.

I read about your Grand Mosque experience and I must admit that I too found that quite disturbing, specially the kid playing with the PSP. But here I must say the responsibility lies solely with the parents. If you know your kids will surely disrupt the prayers and create a huge problem, then best not take them to the masjid!

Bro...but kids are supposed to be praying by the age of 7 according to Islam. We must teach our kids to pray at that age. I can try to understand what you say about noisy small children but at 7/8 years a kid should be in the jam'ah not disturbing them!

That said remember bro we must at all times try our best to be like the Prophet(Peace be upon Him) and his Sahabah. Of cos we will never reach their level of piety and patience but we certainly must emulate them in all our acts of worship.

You don't have any kids of your own yet,do you? Insha Allah when you do, trust me you'll learn to have more patience and will then be able to also concentrate on your prayers even if they are screaming. Parenthood, AlHamdulillah, can bring out the best in us sometimes..Barakhallah feek!

FathimaH, Well we can't compare, there are certain things, now we don't do, They were best in their prayers, and we can't concentrate properly on our prayers, I'll take my own example, I can't pray, if children are crying constantly, and only thing stop me from breaking the prayers in the mid is that I am in center, I was in Grand mosque at Eid prayers! and there was a lot of noise just because of this! IMHO Children below 8 must not be allowed to masjid!

After all kids will be kids and all that..

Thanks for explaining FathimaH. It seems intolerance of children is manifesting itself all over the world in so many different ways. Maybe we will see a shift for the better in our lifetimes.

Our Prophet(Peace be upon Him) never disallowed children from coming to the mosques. Rather he encouraged them even if it meant that they may play around and not actually pray. In fact their is a hadith where his grandson climbed on his back whilst he(Muhammad) was in prayer, and another where when babies used to cry he would shorten the prayer so as to not burden the mother. Such was the practice of our Prophet.

People today though are far more temperamental and less tolerant than the Prophet and His companions. As a result many mosques tend to even have heated rows among the people with regards to kids and them disrupting the prayers etc. Mind you I have witnessed these myself and trust me they are not pretty! Hence nowadays it's much better for the parents of kids to avoid bringing them to the mosque due to the kind of troubles it can cause.

Personally I avoided taking my daughter to mosques until she started praying a year back. Better safe than sorry!

Impressive, but it seems perhaps a little too grand for my taste.

I recently took a tour and two of my young children were with me (although just visiting rather than participating in prayers).

Fatimah--is it common for mosques to exclude young children? When I was living in the U.S. a number of Christian churches had a habit of putting children and their mothers in the "cry room" (a sound proof room that used an intercom to transmit prayers into the room). It really bothered me; and several friends have said such things are going out of fashion.

@ greeny: It appears the Men's section allows kids because my hubby too confirmed that little boys were allowed in there. Wonder why then only the ladies section disallows kids in?

Whenever I have been there, my children were with me.

Nobody said anything.

there IS a ladies section for sure..just no kids allowed below nine years or so. If you can find a place to keep en Rugrats,I'm sure the Grand Mosque will be an amazing place to pray Tharawee in Ramadhan. Wish they could hire Muhammad al Luhaidan or Abu Bakr Shatri as head Imam!

I was planning to go there during Ramadan for Taraveeh.

have not gone in so far hearing children are not allowed....not all children stand along for prayers with their mothers and cause unwanted disturbance ......in many children are not allowed....and i dont think this should become a big cause for ladies not praying and they can always pray at home...

Can other people also go like in Fanar.

Am sure she was wrong because I prayed once my husband finished his and took care of my daughter, and everyone else was doing the same.

A friend of mine told me she has heard there was..guess she heard wrong then!

From what I hear they get ladies with kids to pray in some area separate from the rest, which I might understand if they are little kids who can run about and disturb the prayers. However my daughter at seven years prays just as well as any grown up, and not allowing her into pray in the jama' is a bit too harsh to me.

Insha Allah maybe I'll make it there in about 3 years from now,then!

Oh and until then I'll be satisfied with pics like yours to show me what it's like. Good job!

MN my husband said me the same thing as he have seen some children's in men's section, but i was blocked from entering female section and yeah there were many other mother's too who doesn't know about the rule.

FathimaH: oh so i see that, u too been through the same thing as Sheisha. kinda doesn't make sense to me cuz I'm sure there were kids inide, and these pics were taken just this afternoon.

But my kid is a seven year old girl!

But I cannot go as they don't allow kids in, even though they are at the accepted age to pray in Islam!

Wonderful mosque but visited only once as childrens are not allowed inside.
