VIDEO: The history behind the battle of Al Wajbah

The Wajbah Fort is a very significant part of Qatari heritage and history as the story behind it showcases the bravery with which Qatar defeated the Ottoman Empire in what is now known as the Battle of Al Wajbah.

The battle took place in 1893, in the month of March, when Qatar was a province of the Ottoman Empire. Qatari tribal leaders were imprisoned and troops marched towards the Al Wajbah town.

The battle took place in the fort, and the opponents were unsuccessful in trying to take over the fort. Later on, the Ottoman Empire conceded defeat and the Qatari captives were released. This was definitely one of the most defining moments in the establishment of Qatar as a modern state.
