Visiting my boyfriend

blueyes
By blueyes

I'm an American woman. My boyfriend is Egyptian who lives and works in Doha. I'm coming for a visit in June. I know that living together is not allowed. Is there going to be any issue about coming for a visit to see him?

Thanks for your responses.

You will be getting excited by now though I bet!!! :) xx

When my boyfriend comes here he stays at my house and gives the address for it if they ask. We hold hands in the mall and on the Corniche, and occasionally even sneak a kiss. :P My parents hold hands here all the time...it's sickening really. ;)

Hello everyone! I woke up to lots of messages! (smile)

Yes, we have met of course and it wasn't online. His brother is my neighbor. He comes to the states. He was just here and we spent 3 weeks together. He returned to Doha 2 weeks ago.

I would NOT ever meet someone online and fly to meet them that far away. I don't think I would even let them fly here to see me. Anyway, we are not strangers but I appreciate all concern.

I have to get ready for work. I'll be checking when I can. This is great!

Thanks everyone!

Did you forget something this morning...uhhhh noooo...not a Good morning girl...I am pretty sure you would have thought that...mean girl...LOL!!!

But who she could turn to for help....QATAR LIVING!!!

By TweetyBird• 14 May 2008 08:24
TweetyBird

I hope she has met him in person before and they are just meeting up again because Doha is a long way from the US. It sounds like she will be here without friends, family or support of any kind and she doesn't have an understanding of the culture. If she finds herself in trouble with this guy - who can she turn to for help?

Blue.... I hope it all works out for you but one thing you absolutely need to do is register with the US Embassy in Doha before you make the trip. You can do it online at http://qatar.usembassy.gov/registration2.html

I wish you all the best.

You are right in what you are saying, people do CLICK on first meeting, oh and hey, maybe we are getting a little ahead of ourselves in this line of thought, maybe they have already met and she is excited to be seeing him AGAIN yes??

Hope that is the case and it all has a happy ending for them both.

Now thats a decision that she has to make, I was too following my instincts on this one, I forgot that she might have not met him...and this is those Online things...

Well for that we'll have to wait and see lady...but yes its a RISK NOT WORTH IT...but then again, I would really suggest, take the chance if you can afford it...who knows Brandybabes it might JUST CLICK...if it doesnt, she spends time with us here in Qatar, and she goes back to the US, all Single again...Fair Enough isnt it?

First up, at this hour, You must be sleeping...

So just read how you feel, what you have read, and all I can tell ya is pretty much a logic that I follow in life:

Always listen to the heart buddy, heart can make a lot of wrong decisions, but thats when the brain steps in pulls you up, and trust me the very few decisions that the heart makes and those that come true, give you the best of happiness that is incomparable to any other such reward of life...

And in this case, totally understandable how the situation on the Internet for you and off the Internet with him is, but then again, Life is a Good Game and you might as well the Risk, and trust me there is no Risk that aint Worth it...(Pats myself on the back for such a lovely line...lol!!!) so yea buddy, go for it, trust your instincts and hope you have a wonderful wonderful time ahead with yourself and your BF, and ofcourse with the UNCOMPARABLE Qatar Living folks, and ofcourse in particular ME...LOL!!!

Cheers and have a fantastic time...mate...

Good Night...and Sleep well...

And for the others

Blue eyes - I have to ask although you are free to tell me its not any of my business. Have you met your BF in person before? I got the impression from your post that this is the first time you will be meeting him in person, that you really don't know him all that well. Everything you know is what he told you not what you have experienced by being with him. Did you meet him online and are now flying to Doha to meet him in person?

Hello everyone!

I appreciate all your advice. You are all sleeping now and I just got home from work. Every day is one day closer to Doha! I'm still a bit nervous but definitely want to use the Al Maha service. I think that will take some of the stress off me. Comes highly recommended so I will let him know to book it.

I have read lots on the internet about Western women and Eastern men and I must say 90% + has been negative. It really got me scared the last couple of days. However, I talk to this man every day and he has always done everything he has said he would do for me. He lets me know daily how much I mean to him. I have to trust him. He has no reason to lie to me. He has no plans to live in the states, at least not anytime in the next few years. He hasn't tried to sugarcoat anything. He has told me it's very different and that I have to make the decision on my own. We have talked about religion and his beliefs and the way he was raised and what he expects. He has said many times he doesn't want me to change that he loves who I am the way I am and that's what drew him to me. If I let the negative writings from the internet scare me and make me negative, I will loose him. I cannot put him in a category with other men who have lied and mistreated women. I would not want him to do the same to me. I want him to accept me for me and trust me to be what I say. He is the first man I have ever met where I don't feel like I am being lied to. I really trust him with everything. My instincts are almost always right with anything i've faced in life.

I will continue to discuss with all of you as I appreciate all your advice. Like anywhere, there are good and bad people in the world and we can't go through life not being able to trust anyone due to past experiences. Everyone is an individual.

Thanks again everyone and keep positive energy flowing my way!

Before I came to live here, I visited my Husband a couple of times and both times I was asked where I was staying, they also asked for a telephone number. Better to be prepared than not at all. Have a great time Blue and welcome to QL.

If you are worried about immigration - have your BF arrange the Al Maha service for you. He can do it right at the airport. There is a desk where passengers enter the terminal after picking up their luggage. It cost around 100 QR and you will not have to go through customs - Al Maha will handle all of the paperwork for you and bring you out to your BF. We use it for everyone who visits us and it works great.

Sorry that happened. I think it's perfectly OK and so I guess do most people. Will definitely make a point of cirlcing security guards at malls, holding hands with husband...even swinging arms. I dare them to call the police! They can't even tell someone to put out a cigarette most of the time!!! Give me strength!

Are you doing some research on the MOI, and yes for these countries its just walk in-bloddy WHITE SKIN I tell ya...LOL!!!

And its QR 55/- for 2 weeks and then when those 2 weeks are getting over, just step into the immigration office at the airport (beside the airport) and pay another QR 55/- and get another 2 weeks...

After 4 weeks, earlier it used to be step out of the country and come back in ,like Doha - Bahrain - Doha (round flight and come back immediately) To restart the process and get another 4 weeks, in a year i think this could have been done for 3 mnths in total, but nowadays you dont need to go out also, just go to Qatar Airways office and I think you have to pay the fare of Return Ticket to Bahrain or Abudhabi and thats all you have another 4 weeks for you and your BF,

Cheers...!!!

And secondly, yes this does happen but it happens only if you are walking on the wrong side of Qatar...meaning, does happen if you come across a big time Qatari or an Arab Guy who is extremely religious and that time yes you do get stares and stuff...but most of the times, I guess Qatar is also changing towards the modern era and people understand the change in times, atleast unlike in 1997 i dont see so many ladies with the covered veils, yes they wear it but its more just the hair nowadays...dont you think...

KSA is right, Al Maha is great. The bottom line is that it is illegal, if the wrong person calls the police, you will be deported. It has happened to one person I know, but it was more down to having already offended someone. and it is so unlikely, for the one person I know who had a problem, I know at least 10 people who cohabit all the time. The authorities are not too bothered about it, but if a high up member of the community complained, they would act on it. You'll be fine, don't worry, the risk is so minimal it's not worth worrying about. Don't hold hands in public places though, my friend got a BIG telling off the other day!

Hey there buddy,

First of all, welcome aboard QL, and now foryour question,

Like many other people have mentioned, and unlike Novi mentioned, they will freaking not ask you where yougoing to stay...

And as well another quick suggestion which is very very very useful is you could take the Meet and Greet Al Maha Services...you enter the airport terminal

They take you into their dedicated Al Maha Lounge, have a coffee and a croissant and in the meanwhile, no lines, no queues, nothing and surely no questions, You will have your stamp and entry ready, and then one of the fine and pretty looking ladies (o they are damn pretty...lol!!!), will escort you out to the Baggage Claim and after that escort you out to the exit of the Airport...thats all, noone asks ANY QUESTIONS...NOONE AT ALL...

This is very handy and it costs about QR 100/- which about US$ 35 which isnt very expensive by any standards...

And ofcourse that Blueeyes, just try and stay a touch careful when staying in-house with your buddy boy...otherwise things are pretty normal...you might want to rent an Executive Service Apartment for the time you are here...that works out nicely as well...

Cheers and once again, dont scoot off from Doha without meeting the QL Folks...LOL!!!!

AND Qatarsiun (QS), now why would you want to know about her boyfriend's brother, HEY DID YOU FORGET ME BY ANY CHANCE>>>???? LOL!!!

Everyone, that you so much for your advice. He has told me not to worry that people will not bother us and he is even renting an extra 1 bdrm apt in case someone does. However, he plans on staying with me in it.

I have been super stressed out about all this as I don't want any trouble for me or him. I just want to be able to come and spend some quality time with him. I have done lots or research and know it's very different there and respect that. I will not draw any attention to myself.

Anything you can advise me on is much appreciated to everyone!

They are NOT going to ask her where she will be staying.. over two years ago i came to Qatar for 2 weeks vacation to visit my ex.. They stamped my passport and let me in...and even didn't ask where i am going to stay.. maximum, even IF they ask, she can say: in my friend's house... nobody will verify anything...

come here blueyse, have fun.. it will be a bit hot, but hope you enjoy it...

have a great time!

again.. they WILL NOT ask you anything. All the procedure of getting visa takes about 2-3 minutes.. they just check your passport, collect the payment (be ready to pay something like QR50, which is about US$15 by credit card), put the stamp in your passprot, and you are IN..

Novita, I don't know. Are they going to ask me that? I asked him last night about that and he said they wouldn't ask me. I don't have any idea what they will or won't ask because I haven't traveled and stayed in another country except Mexico.

Private Message.

When you arrive in the immigration, and they ask you where you going to stay? What you going to tell the officer?

It is if someone calls the police. Its very unlikely, but you only have to offend one person. In reality the risk is very low, I think.

That was quick. Yes, I know what you are talking about. But seriously, is it a big deal to other people if someone who lives in Qatar has a girlfriend or boyfriend staying with them for a vacation?
