Qatar to observe Ramadan starting on Thursday (May 17)
The Crescent Sighting Committee at the Ministry of Awqaf has announced that Thursday, May 17th will be the first day of Ramadan in Qatar.
Wednesday, the 16th of May is the last day of Sha'ban and Thursday is the first day of the holy month of Ramadan.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Hijri calendar. It signifies a month of blessings, fasting, increased prayers, charity and good actions. According to what date the moon is sighted, it can be of 29 days or 30.
On the eve of 29th Shaban, there is the much anticipated wait for the moon sighting. As soon as the new crescent is sighted, Muslims officially enter the month of Ramadan and start preparing for the Suhoor just before dawn.
Fasting commences at the break of dawn and lasts until sunset.
