Ramadan will most likely begin in Qatar on Saturday, if the moon is sighted on Friday.

The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has called on all Muslims to watch the sky for the crescent moon during sunset on Friday.

Those who spot the crescent of the holy month have been asked to report to the ministry’s headquarters in Dafna.

The Crescent Sighting Committee at the ministry will meet on the same day after Maghrib prayers, after which an announcement is expected on the commencement of Ramadan.

Meanwhile, in preparation for the holy month, the ministry has opened seven new mosques with a total capacity of 3,000 worshipers in Al Eb, Al Khor, Al Laqtifia, Ain Khalid, Al Wakra and Azghawa.

"The Crescent Sighting Committee at the Ministry of Awqaf (Islamic Endowments) and Islamic Affairs has called on all Muslims in Qatar to sight the crescent of the blessed month of Ramadan on Friday evening, Sha’baan 29, 1435AH, corresponding to June 27. The committee also called on whoever sees the crescent to report to the ministry’s headquarters at the “towers area” in Dafna and attest his testimony."
