Magnolia Bakery Qatar
When I lived in New York, Magnolia was one of my favorite cake shops. Actually it’s more than just a cake shop as it does savory dishes as well. So I was curious to see how Magnolia Bakery Qatar compared to the original NY venue. The cupcakes look just as perfect but the real test for me was the carrot cake, which I ordered with a latte.
The verdict?
It was every bit as yummy as New York’s Magnolia. My friend had Red Velvet Cheesecake and although I’m not a fan, she said it was up there with the best she’d tasted. Coffee was great, the staff was polite and friendly, and the place was spotless.
Aileen and I wanted to check this place out especially for the cool, retro décor. We walked around the beautiful Aspire Park for a bit and then headed to Burgeri, which you can’t miss, thanks to the look of the place. It was clean and deliciously cool inside and the burgers weren’t too bad either! You create your own style of burger and there’s a buzzer to tell you when it’s cooked. Aileen went for the classic burger and sweet potato fries, while I had the Hawaiian style burger, with pineapple. The burgers were great, as were the milk shakes, and eating on the roof whilst watching the activities in the park was fun too. Prices are reasonable for Qatar, and I’d definitely recommend Burgeri.
Garvey’s European Family Club
We’d heard about the club from friends who said they did the best fish and chips anywhere in Qatar, so we decided to give it a try. There’s nothing too fancy about the club itself but it’s somewhere cool and comfortable to enjoy a meal. The fish and chips were excellent, with surprisingly crisp batter and it was served with all the condiments you’d expect to get in a traditional pub at home, like HP sauce, ketchup, tartar sauce etc. They served crusty bread with it, which was a bit different, but nice to see it came with Lurpak butter on the side. All in all, an excellent choice and it got a big thumbs-up all around!
