Brendon, we are also making the trek from the UK. Been here 10 years and finally had enough of the place. Was great until 3 or 4 years ago. New country - New start mate. Going to be awesome!
Fully agree with you Xena - we have been living in the UK for the last few years and it is really important to get involved and experience the local culture, so we fully intend to do so.
Thanks for the positive perspective on life there compared to SA as well, very reassuring.
Looking forward to those chops and pies Mojojo - sound great!!!!
here in Qatar. Will check to see if the lady is still around. I know they were contactable through the South Africans in Qatar website.
BrendonF and anyone arriving from home, take this advice from a longtime dohite Saffer, get out there, meet new people, meet different cultures and nationalities, don't stick to what you know... coming here, is an experience in its self... yes, have your braais and billys, but do try the authentic Indian, arabic and other foods found here and so many different cultures to experience.
Its no longer SA, its safer, financially more rewarding and a much better place for raising a family.
It bugs me when I hear people say, "It's not like home, hey." No its not... its the multi-nationality country of Doha, enjoy it:-)
Sorry for the rant;-P
Al-Khor is a long way out, but use the weekends to explore Qatar, there's plenty of off-roading and beaches to discover and if the wife likes shopping... hide your credit cards;-)
If you are still in SA, get hold of one of those homemade Biltong kits it will help out, unless you are a seasoned Biltong maker, then you will do fine. Then its just getting past the bland taste of the beef, so bring alot of Biltong spices.
Yip... but Stay in Al Garaffa, went to Al Khor once and honestly it reminded me of Secunda :) without all the factories obviously. Maybe cos i only saw a part of it.
Qatar's winter months are brimming with unmissable experiences, from the AFC Asian Cup 2023 to the World Aquatics Championships Doha 2024 and a variety of outdoor adventures and cultural delights.
