Best coffee in town

After reading extensively about coffee and its origins, I came to appreciate the Arabs contribution to this wonderful drink. Aside from starbucks, coffee beanery and the likes, which other coffee shops can you recommend?

yep, me too. i prefer to have mine black and steaming...

espresso from time to time is a pleasure though.

That was one of the worst cups of coffee I've ever had! Honest. And it was no joy that they brought me a whole POT when I just asked for 1! :)

Ramil - Never tried Gahwa. Or maybe that's the heavy stuff I was talking about...but they all told me it's 'Arabic coffee', no other name.

Turkish coffee is just too dense and spicy for me.

I'm a bit of a purist when it comes to coffee.

i ended up buying/making my coffee at home, less cost and always ends up the way you want it.

Gahwa - i take it from time to time, and learning to like it.

Turkish - no espresso machine in the office or at home

no choice

Take me to a meeting the next time :)

See, I'm back! :)

And do you have suggestions for places to try the local coffee? It was way too heavy for me in the couple of places (at the Souq) that I tried it.

Café Tasse at Souq Waqif - it isn't bad, but I went there with rather high expectations...

I knew it as a brand that retails good coffee, chocolate, etc. and as a café in Brussels...which probably explains my disappointment.

The outlet here is like just another one of the ubiquitous chain-coffee shops in Doha.

Well, perhaps their pastry counter is slightly better than most.

Illy, Segafredo (has a cafe next to Sushiminto on Salwa Road) and Vergnano (has an outlet at the Pearl), in my opinion, are the best coffees (brands, not necessarily cafés) available here.

Having said that, vergnano is really nice as a café, too, and has other coffee-based drinks too that are a cut above the rest.

I enjoy Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, but I only drink the day's special brew there. Usually well done.

And yes, nice cheesecake.

But just charging you big bucks.. They should change the name to Bigbucks instead of starbucks..

I love Arabic coffee as well.. I have several small cups of gahwa everyday.. NO milk no sugar.. Calorie free and yet so tasty.

Try Halul Coffee Shop in the Cornische, very near to the Fishmarket... old and gives you the arabic ambience, smell and everything. but its a nice place to sit as you watch the sun rise from the horizon slowly illuminating those fishermen mending their nets.

The Best Coffee Shop according to my taste;

1. Coffee Bean and Tea leaf - they have the exact grind size, not too coarse, just the right size, thick but not burnt espresso, and well properly steamed milk( not cheap one. They also serve the best cheesecakes.

2. The Coffee Beanery - Acceptable

3.

4.

5.

6.

7.

8.

9

10. Starbucks - used to drink there, sadly everything went down. Quality, ingredients...

I know starbucks is great , but finding those local, sometimes old coffee shops which are serving coffee for the longest time brings some kind of nostalgia. It may even be a travel back in time. Imagine tasting coffee like it was before during the earliest days, due to the fact that it was in the Arab world where this fiasco began :).
