Countries around the world celebrate ‘World Blood Donor Day’ every year on 14th June to thank individuals and rejoice with them who donate blood and to encourage those who have not yet donated blood to start donating. The event also raises awareness of blood donation need, also to encourage others to come forward for donation even if not regularly. This ensures quality, safe and availability of blood for patients in need. This saves millions of lives around globe every year. Patients suffering from life threatening illnesses live longer. Donated blood serves for maternal and childcare services.
Though not in the prescribed date The Institution of Engineers Bangladesh, IEB, Qatar Chapter has organized a campaign of blood donation and many engineer members of IEB Qatar chapter has come forward towards this noble cause. Blood donation event was scheduled on 3rd July 2019. And it has seen 9 numbers of eligible donors among 18 members present willing to join the donors list.
As usual to be eligible to donate blood the center measures blood pressure, pulses, temperature, body weight, hemoglobin level, finding a suitable vein to extract blood. Besides, the assigned nurse will interview about medical history, any chronic or contagious disease, physical fitness, sleeping disorders, restlessness, any allergic symptom, taking medicine like aspirin or like, and physical looks. The assigned nurse will advise to take and will offer snack meal and to intake more liquids after you complete donating blood what the Donor Center offers.
This years Blood donation campaign from WHO slogan is “Safe Blood for All” for encouraging people to care for each other and a united community.
IEB Qatar chapter blood donation campaign highlights the need for committed, year-round blood donation campaign, IEB aims to continue this program to maintain and make the slogan sustainable and
aims for international collaboration of this campaign.
IEB QC said, ’we did this kind of campaign in past, now is doing same and will keep doing same in future’. We will continue this campaign every four months. Next year we will join World Blood Donor Day-14th June, insAllah.”
