CARLUCCIO'S RESERVED

On Friday 13 May 2011 I planned to spoil my wife, by taking her for breakfast at CARLUCCIO'S, Pearl, Qatar. When we arrived it was explained to us by the two waiters that the tables with the RED WINE BOTTLES on them were reserved. The table that we requested to sit at had six seats and we were only two, and therefore we need to be seated somewhere else. All other tables we selected were declined as they were "reserved".
Anyone that has eaten at this restaurant is aware that the tables can be moved and that when making a reservation you do not stipulate your exact location, more likely "seating at the window “type of request.
We were seated at a corner table overlooking the six seater reserved table when a Caucasian couple - two people - walked in. They were also shown to a table not to their satisfaction. They were then brought back to the six seater we were refused. To our surprise and total disbelieve the six seater tables red wine bottle was removed and two people were seated at the six seater table. We overheard the Caucasian lady mentioned to the same waiter" but there are six seats here “and this obviously meant no other people were in their party.
At this point, we decided to leave the establishment and I did have a word with the manager who seemed very disinterested.
I am totally disgusted at this blatant racism which is allowed and needs to be highlighted. So no matter what you do, in the end it all boils down to the color of your skin.

have a drink with your food... I will never go back there either...

Their food is crap and their portions are a joke for what you are paying....

Thank you for all the response showing there are reasonable people out here.

As mentioned in the subject line you had to be there. It was totally unacceptable. Whether you class it as "bad service" or "racism" it still left a bad taste in your mouth.

Thank you again and cheers for now.

Good point. Then again, maybe they were regulars, maybe they had a share in the establishment, etc.

I will be beaten for this but never mind; how do you know it was racist?

Maybe they were just more forceful than you, and you 'rolled over' too easily.

If you had some backbone you could demand the table, and like when bartering at the souk, walk away if you don't get what you want.

As it was, you were happy sitting at the table you had, until those others came and took it, so why be envious? I can't see racism here, just assertiveness from the other couple.

You didn't walk out when you didn't get the table; only when they did.

Jealousy is a fickle thing indeed.

awww,, sorry to hear that :( ... but you can make it up with your wife next week :) say, cook your wifey's favorite dish and set up a table for 2 in your own backyard or in the park near corniche, with one stemmed rose and a nice soothing music :),, and ask her when was the last time you two dance together, then maybe ask her to dance again with you :)) .. Girls appreciate it if their man put some effort on the date :)

Sorry your romantic day was ruined by a bunch of pathetic people. And TFS...don't think I've ever been there but will now avoid the place. Any place that lacks common courtesy and customer care sucks!

Refuse to eat there and encourage others to do the same until they send you a formal apology.

Sorry to hear that. It reflects bad on their service. They lost a good customer and probably will loose more if they continue with the same attitude. This kind of irrational behaviour is unacceptable in hospitality industry.
