Doha Tribeca set to expand
The Doha Tribeca Film Festival is expanding in size and scope in its second year.
Fest, which unspools Oct. 26-30 in Qatar, will be a day longer than the inaugural edition and will launch two competitions for Arab film and Arab filmmaker, both offering prizes worth $100,000.
It will include two audience awards for narrative and documentary film, also worth $100,000 each.
Doha Tribeca exec director Amanda Palmer is making the promotion and support of Arab cinema a priority at this year's edition and will boost the number of films from the region in the selection.
Call for submissions opens June 7.
"The inaugural festival showed us that film can do more than just entertain; it can educate, inspire and unite communities," Palmer said. "To that end we are already busy with our year-round educational programs, which provide Qataris a platform to tell their stories to the world through the universal language of film."
Tribeca's chief creative officer Geoffrey Gilmore said the fest had decided to introduce the Arab filmmaking competition after comments the first year about "the strength and quality of the Arab films."

Wow it's still going on?
Umm.. no.. the main opening event last year was held outside and open to the public. It was at the Museum, but along the grass at the park out front. Even the VIP badges only cost 10 QAR. There were literally thousands of people watching the opening film "Amelia".
The following films were screened inside the Museum, at CitiCenter, Villaggio, as well as the open air theater outside.
it is in "ISLAMIC" museum where they conduct film festival..how stupid!
is there any jobs or tickets going?
