Is it only me or are there very few Arabs compared to other expatriates and even Qatari members in Qatar Living?
Just wondering.

Interesting stats by the way, CIA puts the population below a million now in July 2010.

Arabs (All) 40%

Mallus 12%

Punjabis 1% (WK bowled over by the candy)

Bihari .5%

Telugu 1%

Bengali 2%

Filipinos 5%

Nepali 4%

Pathans 2%

How many countries you are counting in that 40 %..

Everyone from the subcontinent should be put together as well going by your logic you gave earlier, the logic you used to put together everyone from Sudan, Egypt, Morocco, Arab peninsula, Lebanon and other Arabs . So combine Indians, Pakistanis, Sri lankans, Afghans, Bangladeshis and Nepalis and do the maths.

Better still, take a walk outside, ask every person you meet his or her nationality and report back here. Nothing like a hands on research. Arabs are a minority in this country and everyone knows it, what's there to get upset about?

@genesis, true. They do prefer the easy way, we all do. Then maybe the Qatarization policy should be ammended to include paid education and training of the nationals for more than just clerical positions prior to their hiring. It would also give the expatriates who are in higher positions to look for other jobs if they'd have to be replaced because many a times they aren't given enogh time before that and it's hard for them.

Thanks but I was actually just wondering how come there are very few arabs on forums.

While I do agree with you that we do suffer from influx of foreigners in Qatar. Still, I think the main reason for the locals increased feeling of resentment is due to the fact that they claim we don't have enough privileges like before !In addition, to deficiencies in health and education services because of population density

Expatriates presence is essential for the development process. There is shortage of qualified qatari employees, qatarization program have created a whole generation of clerk jobs for young college drop out qataris who prefers to be recruited for entry level jobs than to go for higher education

Just do a little search in ql, you'll find answers to all your questions. This have been discussed here many times before.

@EXLegend, thanx :

@happygolucky.... yeah it is actually, although it's just another Arab Muslim country.. feels bad to see so many natives still not getting benefits from Qatarization while many expatriates come here and find great jobs and everything on a silver platter..

in my uni for example there's supposed to be at least 45%seats reserved for qatari students and only 6 out of the accepted applicants are natives? No other country would settle for this. i know the language and experience count but I believe no country should plan on developing economically if it will come at the cost of health and education investment of the natives, this should be top priority. What they should have done is some kind of extensive language training or introduced the education of skill-oriented necessary elements into the curriculum of the average schools in Qatar rather than in a few schools which most won't send their kids to and then expect them to perform so well in universities and jobs.

Maybe they have another plan but I'm just speaking my mind here.

@"My Sense", why on earth would you commend India for having such a huge population?

Now that's sadder and you know full well why.

haha lol you guys.

Everything has 2 sides, while it's good for the economy it's bad for the natives and other Arabs when it comes to work that's why they have the Qatarization now which is good but so many are still silently suffering.

And it's sad i mean what kind of country has it's natives classed as a minority? Maybe it's partly the country's fault also for not giving passports to Arabs who have lived here for a long time. It's generally hard to obtain a Qatari passport even if you have a Qatari mother. So yeah big problems there.

hehe eyecandy....look out indian behind you! LOL

India has second big population in the whole wide world, so therefore expect india pipol anywhere and not surprising they outnumbered Qataris here. Good work INDIA!

Have you noticed the population % in Qatar? Expats outnumber Qataris anyway. And Indians make up a big share of the Expats, so I think its a fair representation here in QL.

well it is pretty much IL like "my sense" said lol.

I was just wondering, because I only see Philipinos and Indians or other non-Arabs.

But "khawaga" is right, Qatar is filled with non Qataris to a point where it's weird and sad. But it's their choice. I'm assuming you're Arab?

...There are tons of local Arabic fora, where the users speak their own dialect. They don't have to come to QL where they have to communicate in a different language. Local forums and blogs do exist in Qatar and other Arab countries.

Qatari's dont have to keep themselves amused through an online forum neither do they need to connect...its their place, they have the means for all that.

To me it seems a fairly accurate representation of Doha... mostly expats surrounding a minority of Arabs.
